View Full Version : What oil for a high mileage(ish) saxo??

I have a 1.4 mk 1 saxo and 2moro she is due her 3k oil change.

The mileage is now 80,900 so 10w-40 wouldn't quite cut it now.

What oil should I use?

I don't want a thin oil, as I hate the tappyness of the TU engine

Any help would be great

Vincenzo

check oilmans thread man... Im sure i remember seeing something about high mileage oils. you should be able to get away with 15W-40 as it is the season of warm(er) weather.

always go fully synthetic and stay away from that Magnetec bollox :)

I am looking at that thread atm. I can't find any 1.4 8v saxo's with around the same mileage though.

What is a thicker oil - 10w/15 or 15w/15?? I am confused

15W is thicker at low temps than 10W

Ahhh ok then....

Hmmmm..... What is a thicker oil than 15w/40 then? But without doing damage to any parts in my engine?

Should I go fully synthetic or part synthetic?

fully all the way... especially the sort of abuse that paxo drivers seem to unleash on their cars.

I'd stick within the manufacturers guidelines like... 15w/40 would be the high viscosity id go for the TU engine.

Awesome cheers bud.

Ok one more quick question -

James_bristol (a buddy of mine) uses this castrol racing edge oil on his saxo 1.4 8v fully synthetic, would this be better than the regular magnetec oil?

Ahh, all this oil has confused me :S

I hate magnetec with a passion <- it isnt fully synthetic but for some reason most people think it is... :detective:

as a result the racing edge stuff is better based on the fact its fully synth - providing the rating is correct for the engine.

Brilliant buddy.

Ok I lied earlier, I have one more question hehe. My engine is quite tappy, so what would be the best oil (without doing damage to my engine) to get rid of this tappyness?

Ok this is it now.

I'd love to be able to answer that but i dont have any knowledge on remedies for 'tappy' engines dude, a 15W oil might help but once it gets hot again it'll be at a 40 viscosity like 10W/40...

sorry!

If you want to get rid of tappyness 15w/40 is what you need, but that isn't very protective tbh, use 10w/40..

Oilman also said what i use is spot on as i drive hard so its upto you. anywhere from 0w/40, 5w/40 or 10w/40 is what you want. Makesure its fully syn and i'll see you tomorrow! :)

x ;) :homme:
