Could anybody explain them or post a website that does? At college and most places i have looked are blocked. Are they the same thing or do they do different things?? Looking in to getting a Starlet Turbo and looking into things i can get for it performance wise. Thanks

two completely different things.

Wastegate: this is on the exhaust side of the turbo and is used to regulate the boost pressure. Once the predetermined boost has been reached the wastegate opens, this allows the exhaust gas to bypass the turbine and not generate any more boost.

A dumpvalve is on the air side of the turbo and is used to release excess boost. This happens when on boost and the throttle is then closed. If there was no dumpvalve the compressed air would have no where to go and will stall the turbo which can ultimately knacker it. A dump valve is used to vent this excess pressure and allows the turbo to continue to spin and quick up response times as well as safe guarding itself.

Pretty basic www.wikipedia.org maybe able to go into more depth if you need it
