my mate has just bought a mk1 rallye, but the guy who he bought it off said it was a mk2 rallye engine (1.6), but it has the metal inlet of the mark1, or did the mk2s come with a metal inlet! and it ticks over like a sack of shit, but jesus is that thing fast!!

mk1 = metal inlet
mk2 - VTR lump, plastic inlet. Metal one will go on though

That's the 1.3 engine. 1.6 looks like a VTR (because it is)

If its running poorly tell him to check all the gaskets and the air system as an air leak could be causing the problem.
I love the Rallyes, love to have a go a Series1 :y:

get on the rallye reg, alot of s2s with s1 inlets run like shite because of inproper fitting, sometimes with sensors or needing a slight tweak to the map.
dave you should know theres quite a big difference between the s2 engine and a vtr block in terms of the cam profile used etc..
get on www.106rallye.co.uk if he wants good advice with people who have experience with similar set ups to this.

I was under the impression thats all the difference was the inlet and the cam. So what else in ref to the engine itself (not including manifold and exhausts)

engine irc uses the old tappets from black top, and ecu is diffrent.
imo running a different cam profile doesnt make it a vtr engine :P
hence why the s2 engine produces more power.

So does a Series2 Rallye produce more bhp than the VTR either the 90Black top or the 98Silver top.
Oh and one thing while your about Boss, you mentioned when I picked the wheels up about bolts, do I need regular bolts that will be different to the ones in my S rims.

the s2 rallye engine is more powerful than either of the vtr engines indeed.
ja the bolts are slighty diffrent irc. ive not got std bolts on atm lol! ill get a pic for you of the bolts on rallye wheels.
they may be ok on vts ones but i dont know tbh and dont want to risk it

like said above get on rallyeregister and ask away very knowledgable lads on there. and if he has the s1 inlet on the s2 engine if he gets it set up right it will be a quick car as the people have seen good gains with the s1 inlet on it.
and the 1.6 8v's are a lot faster than the vtr engine. if any one wants a rallye ecu i have an unlocked one for sale for cheap lol

Its a s1 inlet on a s2 engine by the sounds of it.
and they just run like a sack of shit because of them. but christ they are quick.
really hard to get running on a s2 engine. my mate put oneon and the engine blew.

only on the early black top vtr engine. remeber as soon as you say vtr most people think silvertop engine as 95% of vtrs left use the silvertop engine.
just trying to not confuse the NOObs dude ;)

if iirc there is a guide on the rallyeregister on fitting and getting the s1 inlet to run and idle spot on. u just have to do it correctly.

obviously he didnt know what he was doing then by the sounds of it.
there are more examples poping up all the time of perfect running 1600s with the 1300 inlet.

yes because its not easy to get right unless you know what you are doing.
it should not cause an engine failure.

it isnt a simple thing to do. if u really want to do i mite be able to get hold of decent s1 inlet for a good price.
but be prepared to put the time in to try and get it right

Im not stating that it caused the engine to blow im just saying what happened.
I was going to try to fit one of these but did get much help off the rallye register and didnt know enough so decided to sell it on. if i wasnt selling my saxo id probably try again.
