I've been advised to save for a 1.6 for my saxo 1.1. I'm just curious to know what other parts will need changing. Everything at the mo is standard, as i just bought it second hand, after my unfortunate crash in my last car. if anyone could reply with what they think, or even experienced i would appreciate it so much!

Is it really worth sticking a 1.6 engine in a shell designed for a 1.1. You will need loads of engine bay welding to make it stong enough to hold the engine and the money you will spend will likely cost as much as buying a 1.6 in the first place.
Plus your insurance company will probably charge you more for a 'Modified 1.1 engine conversion to a 1.6' than just buying and insuring a 1.6 in the first place. I know is sounds great to have the conversion but you gotta think about it logically.
Just my opinion

would a saxo shell not be made all the same off the production like tho??.. i didnt think there would be much difference between the shell of a 1.1 and a vtr/s so the engine bay wudnt need welded, its not like the corsa redtop conversions where the engine was never designed to be in the car..

all i knew was that the 1.6 engine fits into the normal saxo with no problems. but yeh i thought the shell would be ok

the engine bay would be fine mate.
you would need to make sure you got the top engine mounts with the 16v engine tho, other than that, it will fit fine ;)

how much would u reckon i would be spending for the conversion, not including the price of the engine?

To much! end of the day it will cost you more to put a 1.6 init then to sell your 1.1 and buy a vtr or s, and if you buy a vt you have everything already there.

if you got all the electrics etc with the engine, you could get someone to fit it for yo like mr williamsvts off here, he does them for really good cheap price ;) have a chat with him.
i got a gti engine with excellent mileage, ecu, fuse/relay box, electircs, loom for engine and gearbox for £320 ;) lol
then i got a full car wiring harness and gti fuel tank for £10.99 you just have to love ebay ;)

and that all worked out fine? i imagine u were lucky in finding that. thx for the less negative view, i think i will save up for longer, then do an engine conversion. make it something that looks normal, but performs really well! what mileage did the engine have?

my engine i got has 64K on it.
im going to have it rebuilt, so i know its all ok ;)
bearings, water pump, headgasket etc ;)
unless you try and be different, go for a c2 vtr or vts engine. would be a canny bit of work but the engines may be cheaper than a vts or gti engine which is really popular at the moment.
there are a few possibilities ;)
i really want a new mini engine with the turbo, it was designed by pug, im sure it will fit the saxo bay ;) lol
