Basically took car to garage to get fixed, ie find out wtf is making it squeek, something to do with exhaust, i said just take off the heat shield for me could you, he said yeh no worries.
Comes into work with my key he says.....the baffles in the exhaust is buggered. :panic:
What is best to sort this out? wtf do the baffles do?

iirc the baffles are the things in your exhaust that keeps it quiet. what does it sound like?
to fix the squeeking i would try changing the oval gasket where the manifold joins the centre section

tbh i don't think it sounds any different that it did when it was first fitted, guy says he gonna cut it open and take them out or something and weld it back together....
so is my car gonna be louder without sounding shit if he does this? :)

if its the same on bikes then yes it will sound louder, they used to do it to scooters and crossers over hear until it was banned and it made them loud as fuck

inside the rear silencer you have a wool type thing that is in the box. the pipe that goes thre has hole in it i think, thats the baffles so the sound can be absorbed by the wool stuff lol
some times these holes get rust between them and then bits fall off, they may have dropped into the box and cause the rattle ;)
you car will be louder with out the baffles and wool stuff ;)

so if this mechanic cuts the exhaust open and takes them out it will be alot louder, why dont you ask him if he could replace them.
really i cant see the point and i would just leave it how it is, unless its making a funny noise

expalin the squeek further? If its real loud first port of call fro me would be the anti roll bar plate and the back, see FAQS tab at the top an williams stuck post in suspension

its really loud yes but its only when i increase and decrease acceleration, doesn't do it when im rolling in neutral, i can post all 4 sides of the suspension and doesn't make a noise.

is it a standard exhaust or an after market system?
if its just standard, i would get a new one from eurocar parts or just get an aftermarket back box or system ;)
if its a aftermarket stainless box, it should have a garantee, my magnex is garanteed for life ;)

standard centre section (had it since....Novemberish) second hand 'magnex' backbox

and you recon that the backbox is making the noise?
get someone to sit in the car and rev it gentle, listen for any tinny rattles, try different rev ranges and see where its coming from, if it dosnt do it when standing still and revving, it wont be the exhaust.
could be that some water and shit have worked there way into the rear ARB,
have you had your car lowered recently??

the noise the arb bar makes is like glass bottles chinking together ;) is that what you hear?
the baffles would be a really tinny rattle.

ok i'll give that a try, car was lowered just before Guildford meet, which was end of.....Feb i think, if not Jan.
i'll try and get a sound clip of this noise that i hear tomorrow

it mite be the ARB bar mate, its not hard to sort out, williamsvts has done a handy 'how to' guide to sort it out.
tbh, mine mates a noise, need to get it sorted when i get home ;)

cheers Boz don't know if this is because im a total tard or because im pissed lol. so i basically screw in a 13mm bolt of a decent size (say 30mm as Willsy mentioned and after doing that just leave it in there)? or is that just silly.
which side do i need to screw this into? left, middle or right. In comparison to the pic in williams thread

im sure its the passenger side, thats the pic williams has posted up and im sure he told me the passenger side when i was helping him.
you just get a long m8 bolt, a socket and washers,
when you tigten the bolt, the socket locks against the arm, when you turn the bolt, it acts like a jack and pulls the arb towards you, that should stop the noise (if thats whats wrong) ;) lol
hope that makes sence? :)
