you should get some good sound mate, id say K&N are quite loud, is the filter brand new or 2nd hand, may need a good clean if its dirty

would wd40 work?

its best to use the green filter cleaning kit mate, as you will get the right oil for the filter, you can just wash it in some warm soapy water

The filter cleaner disolves the crap and re-oils it... so best of both.. imo

would wd40 work?

nope.. wd40 will not clean it and is far too fine an oil to re-oil too.

The proper cleaning kits cost about £10 and keep the warrenty on your green filter valid. Also ensures that it filters properly after cleaning too

thats unusual as i thought green filters were one of the loudest!!!

i would do what everyone else is sayin - try and get it cleaned 2 see if it makes a difference!

Generaly the closer to the trottle body the louder the induction roar should be. Cotten filters are normaly the loudest of the cones with Foam not far behind.

If a Open filter isnt loud enough you could always cut a hole in your wing and have it open to atmosphere seen it on a mad Ford Fiesta Zetec and that was VERY loud.

Check all the joins to make sure you have know air leaks and double check all the clips so they are tight enough.

Cleaning might increase the noise alittle.

I got a k&n 57i on my vtr, sounds good, but a question is it not dat loud when u r just driving normally coz usually they dont get real loud until you bury your foot.

it might be due to having a corsa previously, the induction noise on the corsa 16vs is loud...

i have a full system incl decat and 4-2-1 manifold that might be drowning the sound...where can I run cold air feeds from to see if that helps

In comparisson with a corsa's induction noise what are the vts noises meant to be like?

Run flexiable piping from either the lower part of the bumper (lower Grill under number plate) or from the front Panel at the bottom of the engine bay.

The exhaust is more than probally drowning out the induction noise.

The comments before where in ref to a enlcosed filter which is a cone in a Scoop

like this

The cone filter is inside the scoop there by protected from engine bay heat. The next best thing to a completely enclosed induction system like a BMC or Pipercross Viper.
