I've recently had the 's' cammed + chipped at ABP in crewe
now if i give it a bit of stick for more than a few minutes the engine sounds like its about to fall apart! lol
sounds like an old fezzy and its proper embarassing!
someone told me it sounds like the cam followers need replacing.
do you guys agree?
and if so, where is best to get them from?
oh yeah the cars done 93k!

What sort of noise?
At idle or speed?
At cold or at running temperature?

it sounds like tappets but i dont think saxo's have tappets do they?
its only after running at high rpm for like 5 mins or longer. (i don't run at high rpm until the oil temp is up!)
the tapping frequency relates to rpm (higher rpm - faster tapping)

Ok, so it's not while idling then...
Yes, it certainly has got tappets. They are what your lobes on the cam shafts are in contact with. They then move the valves up and down (open and closing...)
I've noticed on my engine that it's a bit noisier after some serious booting about, but this is probably because the oil temperature is high, effectively making the oil thinner, hence, less cushioning between the tappets and the lobes. Make sense?

he is on about mechanical tappets which vtrs have, vts have hydrauic tappets/lifters.

toad - yeah makes sense.
my 'contact' reckons "one of the hydraulic followers may be leaking due to the increased pressure from the new cams"
his words!

leaking??? wtf
they are not a seal, they have oil above below and around them, and also a groove adn hole for oil to pass through, 1 may be cracked or damaged because of their age and them getting a cam with nearly 2mm more lift.
