me and a mate had a discussion at work today about turbo's.

the discussion was...... when you put your car (by this i mean turbocharged car) in Reverse, and boot it, does the turbo still operate in exactly the same way? and boost as it would normally in any of the other gears?

anyone know the answer?

I wouldnt see why it wouldnt mate, as theres still exhuast fumes coming out of the engine, running the exhuast turbine and driving the inlet turbine. Youd just hit the gears limit very very fast lol

well yeah i would say yes as the only thing that is different is the gears not the engine. the engine is still sucking in air and blowing out gases the same as it always does, the pistons and everything is still moving the same way only the gear is back to front. dont quote me on that though as i could be wrong but i dont see how:y:

Yes it does, you dont want to hit it in reverse. You will shit yourself.I was driving a Glanza(I dont know if you have any in the UK)onto ramps today in reverse and i kept having to dump it at the first boost so that I wouldnt kill everyone behind me:panic:

not all cars do, the vauxhall gearbox fitted to the calibra had an electronic operation fitted to the reverse light switch that shuts off boost in reverse (it also has one limiting boost in 1st gear aswell)
