Sounds to me like you have a blown head gasket. If you overheated the engine, the head is probably warped. There could be contamination of the coolant passeges with oil and that it is working its way out but still there is cause for concern.

i think the engine may need a re-build its using about 3:1 fuel oil ratio lol

Could be headgasket or split oil cooler!!

do a compression check. That'll check the headgasket

From memory there is an oil / water cooler on some models. And this could be a way to get oil mixing into the water. I could be thinking about a different car though

all vts should have the heat exchange on them.

he could do a compression test but it could still show good compression even tho it might be shagged as the headgasket might have jsut gone between an oil and coolant way and not effecting the cylinder sealing but worth a test as only take 10mins
the heat exchanger its on all vts's and also all 106 gti's apart from some early 1997 gti's that didnt have it this is would be worth checking to see if its the problem before ripping the head off. here is a pic for him case he dont know what to look for:

personally i think its probably headgasket

Yea try a compression test and is its ok uve got a few bigger problems

the other issue is if that water has contaminated your oil then you will be getting excessive wear on all engine internals

the cars running mint with more torque and its not over heating. can i remove the heat exchange and try it with out?

you can but u need to block the coolant split off pipe that feeds the heat exhanger or replace it with a vtr one, the heat exchanger is there for a reason tho so i wouldnt run it without it for long if u do try it. why dont u take the heat exhanger off, inspeact for damage, then clean it out throughly and attach a peice of hose pipe to the top and run water through it and if u see wahter comming out where the oil filter attaches to u know its shagged

before you go crazy thinking it is your head gasket. are you sure its oil?? if you havn't changed your coolant in a while it might be a build up of rust and just a general discolouration of the water thats made it look like oil. just a though before you have a propper panic attack!

yea i'm pritty sure its oil. its black and pritty thick. all so it has blone oil out of the dipstick and the oil feed on the end of the block all over the engine bay

oh right. yeah, sounds like what i said was just wishful thinking but i thought it was worth a mention. good luck getting that sorted out mate.

you couldnt use a vtr rad pipe. its totally different. get 1 from a 106 gti or some flexy pipe from halfords.
also flush the coolant system aswell.

thanks for the correction i jsut bought one off ebay it was identicle to my vts one but without the splitoff and it said it was off a vtr rad hose on the listing so i presumed it was off a vtr as i never even looked at a vtr hose b4 but i was from a ebay car brakers so prob got mixed up
