Just bought a black top vtr engine and vts gearbox to put in my silvertop westcoast....do i just need to change the ecu to a vtr 1 or will i have to get a vtr loom as well?
Also someone said something aout just using the vtr head, cam, inlet, injectors and ecu on the 1.4 block? is this a better option as ill probably be camming it? thanks

why would you want to use a vtr head on a 1.4 block? :panic:

ye the 1.4 is a 1 plug and has silver rocker cover, the vtr has a black rocker cover. a few plugs around the vtr inlet are different to the 1.4 so i dont think the 1.4 loom is goin to fit? has anybody got a deffinate answer or know someone who has done this conversion? thanks

why not put the vtr block(bottom end) in, that way u dont have to mess with ecu etc..
i may be wrong but its increase the engine size without all the hassle?

i would advise u to get a vtr box not vts for the ratio difference otherwise it wont be as impressive.

The Vts boxs are better than the Vtr ones. Vtr ones have a different ratio. Correct me if im wrong though

I agree.. i Have a Silvertop Mk2 Vtr with a Vts Box and i think it's better than the vtr box.. the ratios a lil different and gives the car better top end..
I have a custom exhaust system an enclosed induction kit and that vts box.. and it can do 130+.. i think the gearbox is what helps a lot..

sorry its kind of related but cant see a point of starting a new thread...
whats the difference between the silver and black top engines other than just the colour of the cam covers?

different lifters/tappets.

what are you banging on about...
the vtr box has ratios and a final drive which will give a higher top speed, but will drastically reduce accelleration over a vts box.:homme:

i had a vts box when i bought the engine but need to find out whats wrong with it and get it repaired if its worth keeping for better acceleration

acceleration will be alot better. and the thing about the vts box is it has the sports ratios. can fit a final drive from another sports box (xsi, s1 rallye) if your re building it..
the vtr box i belive does not have sports ratio however martin told me has the sports ratios, But many have said it isnt... so im going to sit on the fence there

apparently i need new bearings inside the box? is this a expensive/big job?

if your going new bearings id personally get new synchros.
could cost you about £300+ for a fully rebuilt box with new bearings and synchros.

ahh i dunno if its worth spending that much!!

thats for a fully rebuilt box though. its what i would do if the whole box was appart. however if your synchros are perfect as it is it will be alot cheaper to just do the bearings.
