finally bought and fitted my piper 3.5" inward rolled backbox the other day, was pleased with the sound but already im thinking its not that loud so ive got it booked in at powerflow to have a stainless pipe put in from the cat to the backbox, will this make it sound louder and will it give a few pops and rumbles when engine braking?

Yes it will make it sound louder as you are taking out the center silencer.

You should have just bought the full piper system.

should make it loud but not sure why you want it loud, your just going to get pulled over and complaints if its too loud

dont take it to powerflow they will do a crap job and weld it to your backbox, just get a remus centre section from ebay, a great fit and it will make it sound a fair bit louder

also bare in mind it takes a while for you back box to bed in so i would give it a while before making up your mind as it will get abit louder

Agree with that, cheaper all round than getting a custom pipe put in, not sure about powerflow's quality as Ive never had one but they do seem to have a bad rep for quality.

Removing the cat and fitting a 4branch manifold will make the exhaust pop and fart. Ive got a 4branch, straight through centre and a custom back box but still running a sports cat and I dont get any popping and farting apart from once in a while.

Remember tho, if the cat comes out give it plenty of milk and keep it warm at night as when MoT time comes round again it will have to go back in

theyve quoted me 80 quid fitted which i think is ok for a stainless centre section, not going to decat. by the way will i have to reset my ecu once its been fitted?

by the way will i see any gains you think with it bein a cat back system? powerflow centre section and piper 3.5" backbox?

nah james dont say that lol! I have a remus tube in mine and although it does make it sound better they dont fit!

My cars been in piper getting a ss manifold done recently and when i got it back the bloke said what the fucks up with that centre section its an inch longer than it should be.???? wtf i always wondered why it wouldnt fit 100%

lol so morale is dont buy a remus racing tube they dont fit well!

You should see a slight improvement with the car back exhaust on harder acceration and pick up on the move.

Your see a bigger gain from either a 4-2-1 or 4-1 4branch manifold.

mmm thats wierd because the place that fitted my centre section and backbox said how good the fit was. maybe its just different at different garages or i got a different length tube as mine sits perfectly

I have a piper full system up to the manifold and it sounds quiet when not being raced, but when i open it up it has a nice toney roar.....

Im still waiting for a manifold to get rid of that silly cat.....but that will make it a fair bit louder!!!!!!! but i had a jap back box on my astra and that was waaaay too loud so i dont want to be deafened!!!!

Unless your reving it or blasting along then no exhaust and airfilter combo should produce enough noise to warrent any kind of complaint.

Most sports exhausts are fairly quiet untill around 3k and upwards same goes for induction kits.

When you take the exhaust off before fitting the new one turn the engine on and say "See its not that loud" ahah

Top bloke :y:

Which tailpipe did you go for?

3.5' (there Magnexes by the way but the tailpipe is the same really)

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turpin2000ad/MagnexExhausts.jpg

or the 4' slash cut
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turpin2000ad/PiperSlashCutExhausts.jpg

And what centre did you get? Remus, Supersprint, custom?

Karl
18th May 2007, 11:09
will be ordering a supersprint straight through
and a piper 3" outwardly rolled backbox.
so I wont be in the "I hate you as your silencer hangs (Magnex club)"
and i wont be in the "Wish my Saxo was a Scoob (Slashcut club)"
;)

My old car (punto 1.2) had no backbox as it fell off and i didnt even notice! That was insanely loud, it was hard to talk to my passengers!

LMAO

If you botch the car to run on 3 cylinders it will sound like a scoob (ish) as well lol

Just need the airscoop and a blue paintjob and it'd fool the casual observer for sure
