whats the cheapest exhaust system (good one tho) on the market?? and can you fit it diy??
yes you can fit an exhaust DIY.
You'll prob pick up an Ashley full exhaust for approx 200 pound.
another idea is a supersprint race tube (approx 65) and choice of backbox.

Duno what its like for saxos, but my astra was £60 for a centre section, (remus) and 90 for a custom made box from powerflow. bargain :)
If you want a cheap one look on ebay, loads on there. Just dont expect them to be that good.

Soulless is right, Ashley systems are cheap as they are only Mild Steel but dont think just cos its not stainless steel it will fall apart. Cos it wont.
The fit is brilliant and is probally best left to a fitter to get the system to hang and sit as it should. Check out www.rallydesign.co.uk for the best prices on ashley systems. I know for a fact they only list the VTR and VTS so check which out of the two the 1400 is most like in terms of layout before ordering.
Also like Dan mentioned there are cheap low budget sports exhaust on eBay with no particular branding with unkonw fitment quality so your have to take a chance. Cycbox is just rebranded Peco items I think but they are ok so Ive been told.
Again Peco and Sportex will probally list the 1400 fitment, check on www.performancecentre.co.uk for Peco's and other stuff and www.tuning.co.uk/vauxshop for Sportex items. One last place to try is www.cituning.ltd.uk they do exhaust so might be worth looking there.
Hope that helps :y:

Here you go, in their special offers section two straight away for the 1400 Furio. Im sure that will be ok for the Westcoast but might just be worth checking before you order :y:

There are full Cybox systems on ebay selling for £170 i think. Don't know how good they are or the quality of them etc. though. You get what you pay for i suppose.

Agree with that, You do get what you pay for - The Ashley fits that bill.
Cheap but need attention to fit correctly, good performer tho!

Bets advice I can say to anybody on exhaust systems is, most of the leading sports exhausts are going to perform very similarly what I mean is I doubt there is even more than 1bhp-2bhp between say a Magnex and a Scorpion or Piper or Janspeed.
So with the top 5brands Magnex/Janspeed/Piper/Scropion/Mongoose choice what tailpipe and budget fits you the most.
Moving away from the top 5 again just pick what you like the look of after all unless your running cams gas flowed head etc and other serious tuning mods a exhaust is as much a styling itme than a performance item more so if your not changing a manifold as that is the biggest gain to be had

on top of what vts_16v_boy sed, the powerflow website has a chart showing that some systems lose bhp (Mongoose) and the most gained is 4.4bhp from one of thier systems suprise suprise. Ashley also gets 4.4bhp tho wahey! this was all tested on a VTR duno how true it is, heres the link http://www.powerflowexhausts.net/technical.cfm

Ive seen this before and its alittl bit miss leading I reckon.
It has more to do with bore diameter and back box design.
The biggest gains are to be seen in changing the manifold design and removing the cat, even doing this and still running a standard cat/decat back citroen exhaust system would see a gain in performance.
There is a big debait over which is better for certain kinds of performance, twin box (centre box back box) or single box (no centre box just back box) systems.
Unless your track bound and not much road use just buy what you like the look of rather than performance claims :y:

what system would you say is the loudest for a car close to 100k on the clock?

Mileage is a non variable on exhaust note volume really.
I think the best thing you can do is either go for an Ashley competion system from www.rallydesign.co.uk and then have it proffesionally fitted so it sits correctly as the fitting issues keeps it out of the top5 brands imo.
The performance gains are very good so I have been told.
Or if you wanted something abit louder then the only way is custom, Decat, straight through centre and a jap style back box.
Cant get Much louder than them.

Souch a Jap style Can from somewhere like eBay. Try and keep the tailpipe as close to the size of the can as this will reduce the amount of baffles in the can. Also try and keep the can as small and compact as possible - try and find a 3' tailpipe or at least 4' or under again the smaller the can the quicker the gases/note will exit the system hence making the system louder!
I had a dual exit system made for my cougar and had two 3.5' cans which where pretty much straight through empty cans, straight though pipework to the cat.
I can discribe how amazing the car sounded! It bubbled/burbbled on tickover like it had a had a turbo and roared like a Civic when under hard accelration. Once off the throttle it would bubble, pop and fart all the way down the rev range. Loved it. I nearly went Jap style on the S but desided against it right at the last moment.
Here's the Cougar

In ref to the pipework, as long as you keep the bore to the same size as the orginal spec and dont put in any silly sharp turns in the pipes you should have a free flowing exhaust system. Dont expect to gain much bhp from such a straight through system as like mentioned before you need a bit of pressure in a exhaust system to aid performance. But if your just after straight noise do as I suggested :y:

Look at it this way
The rear box or silincer is filled with materals to reduce the exhaust note volume, the baffles (honey comb) inside the rear can reduce alot of the note.
So the smaller the box, the less material and baffles there are to reduce the exhaust note.
Get the can/siliencer almost as small as the exiting hole and tailpipe and you will have almost an unsilienced exhaust note.
there is some sportex full systems on ebay mate for £170 for everything (£130 for 1.0i and 1.1i saxos). Can fit them urself as well i believe as there direct fit.

Look around on the EvolutionR ebay shop. Can get different styles of backboxes as well :y:

ive managed to fit that ashley system to ma vts and its bonkers! it sounds sweet and thats wiv standard manifold still. if you go on ebay theres currently 3 ashley systems from the same person on there all for around £150. altho mild steel sounds ace and a lil bit quicker. best fing about it is with the bkbox when you look inside you can see that the size of the tail pipe is almost the same as the rest of the pipe. so no massivle tail pipe but tiny exit on the bkbox.

Firstly check prices on www.rallydesign.co.uk as they sell Ashley systems and secondly exhaust systems between 106 and Saxo's are not the same so clearly this seller does not have a clue about what he is selling!
Many people look at the two cars and think everything is interchangeable - most but not all.
Look at the way exhaust exit from both cars, thw Saxo (fitted with VT kit) exits through the back bumper where as the 106 (fitted with GT kit) wits under the bumper.
The two systems are not the same. Make sure to buy for your model not a 106.
