View Full Version : VTS gearbox in VTR gains

just wondering what gains you get acceleration wise sticking a vts box in a vtr?
i no you can say it will accelerate a bit faster but thats hard to imagine what is a bit faster . . . so in terms of off your 0-60 and 60-100 times or quarter mile etc?
just how much faster!?
depends how well you drive :P

lol i no if my gran was driving i'd think it was a 0.001 litre so yeh it depends how you drive:P but assuming you drive the same always . . . .
ill await the vtr/sbox owners to come on.
but id say a max of 1 sec to 60.. and i mean max! more like .5 tbh
Really that much? That just goes to show how much of a difference gearing can make!!!

not huge difference then. only thing putting me off is hitting the limiter at less a speed than i do in the vtr box coz it will top out at 6250 instead of whatever the vts pulls to is it 7k odd and hits 35 in 1st? . . .
i await more answers ;)

so.. dont hit the limiter then :P
it will lower your top end a bit but the sports ratios will give better in gear performance imo

gearing will make a huge difference to how a car and engine performs. im just guessing on the box as ive not driven a car with one.

Do you think I could knock a second off my 0 - 100 time? I'm getting the S1 rallye box fitted in a couple of days.

i would bloody hope so 0-100.. but will see tbh.. you will be changing gear more, but it should have better in gear acceleration.
arnt the gearboxs etc the same
all it is mate is ratios
arnt the gearboxs etc the same
all it is mate is ratios
and ratios as brucey says 'win prizes'
I might not have to make more gear changes from 0 to 100... Obviously I know what you are saying... I'm just thinking... Currently, I have to change into 4th at 95 mph. With the S1, if I can hit 100 in 4th, then i've made the same amount of gear changes. Could be good :)
Yeah, on paper, the differece in final drive between mine and the S1's is HUGE. So I should hopefully see some nice improvements! ;)

i still need to test mine! should be getting my shell welded up soon! so might be good to go!

Who uses top end anyway. Get one fitted mate. I was thinking about the 1.3rallye box but since I do alot of motorway driving I couldn't cope with how high the revs would be at 70.
The 1.4 xsi box's are supposed to be good to. In between the rallye and gti.

try finding a 1.3 box or a 1.4xsi one though. thats the problem. i agree the xsi is the best of both worlds

There is an XSI box for sale on PGAC at the moment. You could always order just the final drive from pug then get it fitted as you refurb the box. Ok your looking at £200 to £300 for the lot fitted, but your pretty much getting a new gear box.

you do know the final drives from PSA are a fortune. the CW when mankee cheng asked was about 300, and the same again for the pinion shaft.
PgayC lol! there are a few for sale but they dont come up very often, or in good condition, usually you will need a full rebuild with new synchros and bearings due to the age/abuse they take.
i really should sell my xsi final drive tbh its a bargain considering how immacualte it is.
I got my S1 box from a breakers for £175. It's getting new bearings and a check over for another £175. Seem a fair price?

seems fair tbh. i paid. 275, to have mine fully rebuilt with new synchros, bearings etc.. after i had my atb fitted, also included a couple of uprated parts.

Does seem a good price mate. Didn't know the final drives were that expensive.
PgayC lol!
PGAC is decent, good for shows and discounts and there's not as many forum warriors on their ether. :clapping:

because the moderators are nazis, the information on there isnt as good, as alot of the knowlegeable people are no longer on the forum
the rallye reg has alot better information and doesnt have a backroom scheme going on for the owner of PGAC to pay his mates through FCS ;)
anything new from PSA is going to cost a fortune. i think someone priced up all the parts to rebuild a saxo from scratch at the prices they use and it was like 20K plus labour lol.

I will agree with you that the site has lost alot of good users. I have never had a problem with the mods. You just have to understand that the owner is in the police so he has to be careful about whats aloud to be posted. I'm aware of this so take the website for what it is. I have always got the answers I needed off there.
When you say PSA what does that stand for Peugeot Sport ???? Is there no other sources for final drives?

which are you going to do more of? blasts at low speeds or trying to top it out?
VTS box all the way. Wouldnt mind a VTR box in mine so that i can make use of overdrive :)

PSA is the Peugeot Citroën group term. so any pug/cit garage would supply the final drives at the huge prices lol.
i just find the site is a tad pathetic, banning very good users for posting links to another forum where there may be pics of another car, but because one post had shit or fuck written in it the user gets a ban. theyre to OTT, swearing is fine imo its a car forum not playschool

But its shorter than the VTS and VTR. I know the 1.3 box needs a change to get it to 62.
Will the 1.4 xsi box hit 62in 2nd?
i doubt it.
ill find out the speed in each gear on a standard limit if i can.

So which box would be best on a Vtr. What about a 1.1 box.

Wow the 1.3 is really low ratio!!
So which box would be best on a Vtr. What about a 1.1 box.
personal preference.
log onto ssc. its in the FAQ in engines.
the 1.1 box i will never recommend due to the smaller weaker diff, and non sports gearset.
im with sandy of rallye reg fame on stopping the crap that everyone thinks 1.1 boxes are good.
Wow the 1.3 is really low ratio!!
same gearset just different final drive

alot like the 1.1 but i personally dont. the smaller diff is weaker. and i dont like the fact its not got the sports gearset.

What RPM are those speed limits based on mate?

I know mate ;) The final drive lowerd all the in speed gears more than I was expecting. But it'd be quality for smaller tracks. May top it out on longer tracks (not so much my car but maybe on a cam'd one).

so how would vts box in vtr generally affect mpg?
so how would vts box in vtr generally affect mpg?
it would increase the fuel you use, due to the fact it will be revvinv higher for a set speed in each gear.
so 70 would be at 3500 instead of 3000 for example

put a smaller gear box in :) yes lower top end but my m8 has a 1 litre gear box in his vtr and its quick time but only can do 100 top end.

7" wheels, a part set up throttle cable, and no 5th gear by the sounds of it.

is it worth doing then, will i put vts box in vtr and notice this is faster? also dont have experience of it but would it not get annoying having short gears and changing gear alot?
