removing the engine out of my vtr 2nite in prep for the vts lump to go in

fron peoples experiences will the vtr lump come out of the top of the engine bay with the gearbox still on? or am i best dropping out the bottom?

also the same question for the vts engine as i have a pulley in my mates barn that were doing it with so we can do either but out the top will be easier for us

if you have a crane its easy either way. if you go over the top though remeber the front cross member will raise. we did 3 engines in two days over the top fully fitted in cars.

what dya mean it will raise? did the gearbox not cause problems on the way out as when i looked at it it looks as if it will struggle to come past that plate the gearbox mount it sat on?

no because when you bring it out you turn the engine slightly, and have a bit more slack on the box lifting eye to let it come out at an angle.

the front cross memeber will raise because the engine is heavy, life the engine out, the front of the car will raise.

when you have a crane you might as well come out the top. Makes the job so much easier.

yeah ive been convinced now then ill go out the top, ive removed my bonnet ready and that too, so the 16valver will come out the top hassle free also?

is there a trick to getting the ball joints separate on the gear linkage rods?

well, we did 1.1 engine out of an ax, 1.6 8v in, 1.6 out of another car and a 16v in. so it does go in easily. we had removed the gear linkages, for the extra little effort its worth it to avoide them getting bent. they should just pop off
