Im having a spot of bother with pinking at the moment on my y plate vtr. anybody got any suggestions on how best to tackle it?

try filling it up with optimax or a least super unleaded and see if that solves it, if not try an uprated fuel pressure regualtor www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk

sounds to me like ur ignition timing is out

what air filter are you running?
Pinking or "pre-ignition" can be cured by cooling the inlet air temprature(by way of a cold air induction), reducing the load on the engine, or by increasing the rpm(changing down a cog).
Or failing those simple sugestions, as Scott says, increase the air fuel ratio by way of an uprated fuel presure regulator, thus cooling the chrge.
