which vtr engine has the 98hp the silver top or black top???
i always thought the phase ones only had the 90hp and the phase 2's only had the 98's but my m8 jsut got a vtr phase 2 and reakons it has the 90hp engine any help plz ??

90bhp engines have cat under car.
98bhp have it in the down pipe
the 98bhp engine is fited from 2001>

so every vtr after 01 has the 98hp engine his is on a 03 ;)

Unless your mate has had a new engine put in then he dosnt know much.
Also black tops where early mk1's silvertops came out around 98-99 iirc and then silvertop 98bhp late 2000 onwards

the late silvertops were 2001!

yer cos my other m8 whos got a phase 1 has a phase 2 engine but his de-cat pipe is under the car damn saxos r confusing :oops:
so every vtr after 01 has the 98hp engine his is on a 03 ;)
yes, unless he has had something done to mean an engine rebuild.
the cat will be in down pipe for 98bhp, also the oil dip stick will be in the middle of the manifold, not to the right of it.

it looks perectly fine..
just think of the 4 primarys coming out of the head, instead of the dip stick sitting to the side of the manifold it sits between primarys 1-2 irc. may be 2-3

theres a special edition VTS engine which produces 130bhp instead of the usual 120bhp :p :d
