hi was down at crail yesterday, running approx. 15.4 which i thought wasnt too bad, could have got alot better as my reaction time was shocking! over .5 of a second! whats the average 1/4 for a standard vts and feel free to brag about your own times ;)
im not too sure what is done to my car, the dyno print out says 145.6bhp after dastek and 142.3 before dastek, what do you guys recon would be done to it, i would recon cams but im not sure, standard manifold, still has cat and a crappy powerflow twin exit exhaust that about deafens you at 3000rpm

reaction times wont matter. its when you leave the time is taken
different places also offer different times. standard vts could run anything around you time and slower. if y9u have cams youll have to take a peak
jamesvts1986
28th May 2007, 18:04
was 3 other vts's there yesterday, all runnin around 16 flat, surely your reaction time would matter, if i reacted half a second earlier i would be half a second faster? how could i check 2 see if it has cams? or what would i look for?

at the pod the time starts when you move, not sure about crail.
take of rocker to see ends of cams, may see a number or codes

Ran a 15.7 in my vtr the other month.. thats with basic mods.. manifold/catback/induction. I personally wouldent be happy running 15.4's in a VTS if like you say it has 145bhp.

York man,
When me car was standardish i ran at york/pod. My times at the pod were worse when everyone else was beating there times lol, might have something to do with the viper i was racing scaring the shit out of me on the line lol

28th May 2007, 20:45
what where they? :P
also i find racing skylines etc better to race cause you try harder
James
28th May 2007, 20:53
16.6 at york and 16.8 at pod, to run a 15.7 from that i was very happy :)
Dude i don't know how you try harder lol.. i was sat on the line and my car was just rattling like a pack of skittles because of the vipers vibrations. I then saw green in the corner of my eye and went for it.. realised the lights were still actually red  Nice round of applause i got reversing back down the strip lol

Crail is different from the pod tho!
The time you run at Crail includes your reaction time!
eg. a 15.4 with a reaction time of 0.5
is realy a 14.9 when you take the reaction time off!
where as the Pod doesnt include your reaction time, it only starts the clock when you start to move!
I recon thats a pretty good time mate! :y:

thanks guys, yeah the pod is better like that as u say, crail includes your reaction time which is a pain in the as bcos some people think it isnt that great but when you take reaction time into consideration it is quite good, raced another vts and a 106 gti that day and they didnt even come close, personally i dont think the exhaust would help any, i have always been under the impression twin exits arent great for flow due to bends etc, that is why i am removing it for a magnex, i have a decat ready to go on and i was told that a 4-branch works well with cams (if it has cams, i will have to check that out) if i could get my reaction time down i recon i could do it in 15, i wasnt atall driving at my best on sunday, i was like a zombie most of the day

sounds like a fairly good time then! work on that reaction time and youl be set!
sorry to hijack thread but what sort of time would a standard VTR mk2 100bhp run?
jamesvts1986
4th June 2007, 22:18
not sure on that, never had much dealings with vtrs, had 2 saxos and both have been vts's, i wud guess 16.5-17 but i wudnt b sure, can anyone recommend a good stainless for it, put a full magnex, decat and gmc manifold on my last one, i quite liked that but was wondering if there was any better than magnex?

Not unless your willing to spend lots of notes, best to stick with magnex or a piper mate.

Well i ran mine with an open filter and a magnex. Best i hit was a 16.6, that was stripped out and running good tyres as well. If you can get in the 16.6 - 16.9 mark i'd say you have done well. With a manifold/BMC i now hit a 15.7.
Edit: Lot's to consider though lol, i run lightweight superleggies and a carbon bonnet as well now so i've cut down on the weight a bit :P

i ran a 14's with no grip what so ever still spinning half way up!
Crossing the line at 105ish mph tho!!!

Plus i needed to strip it!

Would have loved to see your car run 13s at York Craig. EAsily achievable if you had the right tyres etc!

4th June 2007, 22:41
Mines ran a 14.01 at the pod but that was on 17's and with most of interior still in, so should be good for a high 13 now its back on vtr wheels and completely stripped.

Thats not bad mate i ran 15.6 in my vts last year at crail. (i cant drive though) I thought it said on the sheet that reaction times were not included.
I have Michelin GTs
Straight through exhaust and BMC..
what sort of time do you think Ill be running in my VTS?
allyVTS
6th June 2007, 11:00
Depends on your driving a mate.
I had a full magnex, raceland indution kit, mild steel 4-2-1, shit tyres and the rear was stipped when i ran a 15.6
Now have the raceland with green filter, ported t/b, custom made s/s 4-1. Haven't driven it yet so dont know if there is a difference.

i got 14.8 in my old vts, stripped with remus backbox and airfilter. completely standard otherwise.
now running the engine in my white one, same stripped, but ashley exhaust and NO airfilter.
thats a pretty quick time for a pretty standard car.

12.8 Was done just down the road from me at straitliners event. I have seen that car running low 13s on road tyres on a damp day. Its frightening to watch and even more terrifying to be in. The cars been known to do rolling burnouts in 5th gear at 60mph in the past. Sort of shows how much torque it really has. That car has a turbo only, no gas. For the 12.8 it was running slicks that day. At the end of the run the Peugeot sport clutch literally exploded when he was slowing down and blew a massive hole in his gearbox. It was upgraded to a AP unit but it ripped the splines of that one as well. The car spend more time being fixed than working. But that’s what you get when you start pushing things that far. GMCs Saxo was super charged.

The engine power/torque depends of the air moistness, the air temperature, the air pressure, etc… So, you will have more or less power/torque, depending of the weather and that varies the time in an acceleration test.

I was tinkering with the idea of modifying the bulkhead to allow bigger air horns and possibly a big cold air feed... But this all a bit over my head! :(

DTH should hvae a nice inlet tract to the valve, obviously the longer trumpets would improve midrange.

Simon Leeks car. I had a lap with him round Folembray when he was driving Crossie's blue Saxo VTS (god rest it's sole, that was a Fucking Great car)
I can only say that Simon has no mechanical sympathy what-so-ever and I'd never let him near a car I owned. I would however love to have another lap round a track with him as that was an experience.
Overtaking kit cars,
mid corner gear changes,
me accidentally hitting the "door open" button with my knee,
all four wheels curbed to fuck
all in about 12 miles.
Fucking Great
was he quick round a track?
CampDavid
7th June 2007, 12:51
was he quick round a track?
Just a bit. He was more aggressive than he was out and out quick, definately one of my favourite passenger experiences. He was driving Crossie's saxo (standard engine save filter/exhaust, Hi specs and 50mm lowered) and being held up by Bunney's green TB'd track car. Both of them were much, much quicker than all the exotic stuff there. A Ferrari 348 driver fucked off halfway through the day and the TVR boys were complaining a bit. All were piss slow though.
they were complaining about being raped by a Saxo!?
CampDavid
7th June 2007, 12:56
they were complaining about being raped by a Saxo!?
Yup. Though in fairness they were more upset about a C reg Fiesta XR2 with a 2.0 Mondeo lump, driven by an ex Fiesta cup racer. That was quicker than all of us.
The following year I took my saxo to the same event. I was faster than them in that too. Some people are just slow

now that blue VTS looks sexy as hell.
It did there. Seriously fucked about with. Ed bought it with the intention of turning it into a show car, hence colour coding, smoothed doors etc.
Then he went on a track day.
The car then went track worthy, Billi suspension GMC spings, followed by some 225 customs towards the end of it's life.
It was TB'd too at one stage, though the Total MotorSort company that did it (and shall remain nameless) fucked it right up and they ended up coming off.
The car was a bit rough when it went to Germany and needed some tidying, so many chips on it from trackdays. In Ed's hands it was fast as fuck though, getting under 9 minutes around the ring on cut slicks before speering into the wall at about 110mph in the wet.
Parts of the car still live on, namely the brakes in Ed's current track car, a 106 Rallye 16 valve which we took to the ring a couple of weeks back

Slight burns to wrists from the airbag, otherwise the only scares were a fear of the ring. He was shitting it last year when he went round in mine and slow as fuck on his first couple of laps when we got back there. He improved a lot though over the 3 or 4 laps I had with him and seems to be back to his old self again, though the car stayed in the car park when it was raining!
