had a search couldnt find much, just wondering im sure there was a list of all the gear boxes you could fit and how fast you could go in each gear n all that bollox like rpm

anyone got any info on it?

after information on the xsi box compared to the vts box

what advantage would i have if i put an xsi final drive in the vts box?

You have to match the box to the applications. Really the problem is the gear cluster its self and not the final drive. But the VTS comes with the best cluster you will get cheaply.

there is nothing wrong with my box, just looking into quaife and getting an xsi final drive

Think quaife do their own final drive too. Not sure if they sell complete MA boxs' with the ATB fitted. Have you been on their site?

VTS/GTI @ 7250rpm

1st 34.8mph
2nd 61.9mph
3rd 88.8mph
4th 115.0mph
5th 142.1mph

VTS/GTI with 1.4xsi final drive @7250rpm

1st 31.9mph
2nd 56.8mph
3rd 81.5mph
4th 105.6mph
5th 130.4mph

doesnt go as fast, but im guessing its faster 0-60? better acceleration

but buying the final drive and already built from quaife is gettin expensive, 570 for the diff from there, if i can get an xsi final drive cheaper will work out well, then just need to find someone to build the box up

0-60 will be slightly reduced unless you are a machine at gear shifting.

Its possibly slower to 60mph as there is a extra gear change in there but its so late I don’t think it would make up the time it takes to shift?

That’s the problem with road cars. There designed to do a hill start with 5 adults in them and a boot full of there shopping and a tank full of gas. Meaning you have to have very low gears. Then the tall gears are very tall to get good miles to the gallon. Simply messing about with the final drive does not fix the inherent short fall of the cluster.

so would i be better off sticking with the vts final drive?

VTS/GTI with 1.4xsi final drive@ 7800rpm

1st 34.4mph
2nd 61.2mph
3rd 87.7mph
4th 113.6mph
5th 140.3mph

thats if i the revs were @ 7800 with xsi, anyone know what it would be like for a vts final drive? just thinking bout cams after this

depends man, is 0-60 specifically that important to you? great for pub talk but other than that pretty useless, you know that 'in-gear' the car will accelerate quicker, so you may find on a 1/4 mile that car with the 1.4xsi performs much better.

It will perform better, no question.

If you want the full list of gear specs, it's on the SCC web site, under the FAQ section.

This is the same question I was asking.

I was then told that you dont really need to raise the rev limmiter. So you'll probably still change gear just before 60 witht he xsi box. I'd like to know where the revs sit at 70mph on the 1.4 xsi box.

What ratio is the 1.6xsi box? Is it the same as the VTS or VTR?

With the S1 Rallye box, the revs at 70mph sit at bout 4025rpm. (estimate)
With the normal GTI / VTS box, they sat at about 3400rpm. (Bigger estiamte!)

So... The final drive of the 1.4xsi box is slighly higher than that of the GTI / VTS's, but the final drive of the S1's is a slightly bigger jump. I guesstimate that your revs at 70mph in the 1.4xsi box will be around the 3600 - 3700 mark.

Hope that's of some use to you.

im not that arsed about it tbh, just wondering if its really worth it to buy the xsi final drive when the vts one is fine, im tempted to as been offered one at a good price

Ryan

if your happy with the vts box keep the final drive from that, the xsi has been favored by a fair few people for a good mix between the vts and s1 rallye one.

the quaife gearset/final drives are uber expensive and not worth it imo unless your going into competition use etc..

if your going cams in the long run you will have a raised limiter so the extra gear change will no longer be an issue.

also as stated with the xsi/s1 boxes in gear acceleration should be improved.

unfortunately my car is not built yet so i cant add my own personal experience behind the wheel.

you could if you wanted to really play about with boxes add a 5th gear for (cruising) from a different cluster.. although tbh i personally wouldnt.

pm mankee on ssc! ask how much he will charge to fully rebuild the box for you if he will do it, with new synchros and the uprated bearing etc.........

om a side note! 3K

dont you hijack my thread.

eh??

That sound like the best option. Raised limiter, xsi box and cams. Would be a beast but it'd cost around £1500 maybe more. Would be so so good though! :clapping:

ive got the money, always said i would spend a bit on the engine get it up to standard

thinking bout puttin the standard wheels back on and interior back in then vtr badges or somethin like that, just so it doesnt stand out that much

ive got the dif all priced up now just under 1k, then cams and remap im looking at around 700 so under 2k all in, isnt too bad, never gona get the money back but it will be an animal

you will get respectable money back if you split after for a quaifed up box and 708s 2bh mate.

I was thinking that today. When you come to sell the car take the box out and it'll sell well. A ready made reconditioned Quafie 1.4xsi radio'd box would fetch a good price!! Then all you have to do is source an ok condition replacement.
