Sorry if this is a ridiculously stupid question but what is the difference between a forced air induction kit and an enclosed induction kit? Which would be better, performance wise?

Right basically they are the same thing, its just Green call it a Forced Induction kit.
You have a Scoop with a open cone filter inside, as the air enters the the scoop it is almost forced onto and around the cone as it works like a funnel.
These filters solve the problem that all open filter suffer from - Heat Soak - This is where a open filter starts to draw in warm air rather than cold air and performance starts to be lost, an enclosed filter reduces this problem by incasing the filter in a housing to protect the filter from warm air.
The only difference between the two filters Green and RaceLand is the RaceLand has a slightly poorer quality cone than the Green and the RaceLand item will require you to move the power steering bottle over abit as the scoop doesnt clear it. Where as the Green is a striaght fit.
I have a Green but in retrospect Id probally should have saved money by buying the RaceLand item, also www.kam-racing.com can supply the RaceLand item with a superior Green cone making the RaceLand kit pretty much the same as the Green at a great saving :y:

I forgot to mention, the vts ive bought is pretty much stock, apart from a scorpion cat-back exhaust system, and a BMC forced air induction kit. Would there be much point in changing the induction kit for one of the green ones or should i leave it as is and maybe just buy a new filter??

BMC enclosed is also of a very good quality
Its also not really forced induction, as the engine will only take as much air in as it needs.

true, but as Dan said, its not actually forced induction..... Forced induction = Turbo/Supercharged!
the two induction kits you posted links to above are both enclosed induction kits! :y:

I have a mk1 vtr. Previous owner bodged a homemade induction kit on it. Ive ripped it off and got rid of the perished, unevenly cut flexihose that ran from throttle body to start of induction pipe. What is the best hose to use to connect baring in mind i dont need a new ind. kit or filter, just the bit that fixes it in place!!!
