Ok I know this has been covered before but there are not many pics around, I wanna know where to mount them and also do people recomend them? Also what does a good one cost :p
Mounting is up to you. It also depends on what catch tank you get, as different models will have different areas of attachment.
You're car may fail an MOT with one, as the oil vapour is meant to be combusted, but with a tank, it will just go into the atmosphere. As far as performance goes, it's not the actual tank that helps, the tank is just there to collect oil if your engine goes 'pooop!' ...Hence why race cars have them, as to not cover a track in oil when something goes wrong.
The benefit is purely the fact that you are not taking in the hot oil vapour into the throttle body. As you may already be aware, the colder the air intake the better. It's also said that the oil vapour can lower the octane rating of the fuel too...

So performance wise they are a good thing? If you have a filter fitted to the top of the tank thats ok right? I took off the original air box today and a load of oil dripped out the rocker cover intake so it made me think I dont really wanna have that going back into the throttle butterfly.

i made one ages ago
I know i got alot of project on the go and i should realy finsih some before i start some more but i wanted to fit a oil catch tank to my car to stop the oil vapour & gunk building up in the intake which can make sensors go faulty over time from the oil sticking to the sidewalls etc... anyway i looked on ebay but i couldnt find one that was exactly what i wanted and plus the decent ones were selling for £55 so i thought about making my own.
Oil catch tanks are very simple yet they are very effective. the oil breather pipe is put into a chaimber/tank where the oil can either pass through steel wool to seperate the oil from the air, even simplier ones act the same but just without the steel wool but the wool also helps to stop the built up oil from slopping about when cornering.
i wanted a small catch tank as i didnt want a big one takign up much room, here is a picture of one i saw on ebay that i wanted but it sold for £55

as this was te type i wanted i decided to make my own on a simular small design so i designed the folling plan:

here is a animated picture i made to show u how it works, obviously it tkaes time for the oil to build up, the size of the one i am making will need emptying evey 2-3 months

i then went on ebay and ordered the following bits:
breather filter £6
metal s/p pots £4
bracket £0.49

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/stevecnet/24112006015.jpg
Then when it arrived i set about putting it all together, first took the breather and drilled the top of the s pot and then mounted the filter on the top through the hole

this is all i have done so far but i will do some more as and when, jsut thought i'd share it with you.
i did finish it but never got pics in the end
Wow, nice work.
I used a plastic plant sprayer as the tank, and some old garden hose for the piping. Quality engineering...

Was looking where to mount one today but am a bit unsure on a good mounting position... I want it as close as possible to the outlet on the rocker cover... really want some pics if anyone has one on their car
