View Full Version : Where is this squeak coming from?

Hey all

I have a '99 Mark1 Saxo VTS.

For a while now there is a squeaking sound that is coming from somewhere around the alternator set up.

Removal of the belt stops the squeaking, so in theory that means that its gonna be the alternator, the belt tensioner or the crank pulley. I just took it to the garage and they replaced the tensioner and the belt but no difference (don't worry I made sure they didn't charge me for it).

The cit garage quoted me £350 + fitting for a new alternator so im hoping that is not it. They did say that the sound didn't sound like the sort of sound an alternator would make.

Therefore this just leaves the crank pulley. Has anyone else experienced this and have you managed to determine the source of the squeak?

Many thanks

yeah the crank pulley. £100 for one. labour will be cheap. your battery will start losing charge if you leave it, just to warn you. dont want you getting stuck anywhere, lol

ps, like the cit garage wouldnt know, they are shit
