just wondreing how much power is possible from the 1.4 engine apparently has 75 is this due to a restriction cos 1.2 16v corsas have like 90 same as vtr?? i mean i would like to get the power up a little, thats why i got the 1.4
any help?

mines got Custom exhausts , pipercross induction kit, custom decat pipe goin on on thurs, and what looks to me as a VTS manifold, n its pretty nippy. I will be getting alot done to it soon aswell. Especially a new BMC CDA enclosed induction kit for a bit more power. Then its gas flowed head, new manifold, ported n polished valves, to release a bit more power. So should all be running a lot more power soon !

yeh sounds great im thinking of maybe getting a vts engine put in mine but i dunno yet thats a little too expensive on the insurance side lol
what sort of body kit you gonna get or got

I believe GMC built a super charged Saxo which was silly fast and beat VTS's in the 0-60 and 0-10 dash. So i believe that if you are wishing to spend some money, then its not a bad engine.
If you dont want to spend that much but just upgrade bits and pieces then you can still squeeze out that bit more easily

m8, as u have practically the same engine as me... i think u COULD get around 100bhp (may be difficult)
but with a supersprint system (de-cat) (includes manifold, centre section, de-cat and rear silencer)
fast road cams, and superchip it COULD be possible!
a fast road cam, can give u 10bhp extra!!
superchip 6bhp!
full system de-cat and manifold up to 10bhp (possibly?)
which would be more than enuff
for that u would be lookin to pay AROUND (rough estimate) around about £1000 (altho im not 100% sure on prices)
i guess £1000 for 25bhp is abit steep but worth it over the long run!

well you if you want just that little bit more power just add a enclosed induction kit, full exhaust system and manifolds etc...
but if you really want significant power for the amount of money you would spend on your 1.4 it makes sense to drop a vts engine in it or even a vtr engine in if your worried about insurnace.

saxoboyo
23rd September 2004, 03:08
yeh how much does the new engine effect the insurance cos i heard its like more than it normally would cos its classed as a modification not a standered feature like???
do yah now what i mean guys?

mines running about 80brake now
ahem!
judging by wot u just said... u CANNOT gain 5bhp from just adding a pipercross induction kit! sorry but LMAO!
u wont have gained anything from a standard pipercross induction kit, only a lil more response when u put ur foot down and some noise! u can only REALLY gain a slight bit of power with an enclosed induction kit! so ur figure of 80bhp is very wrong im afraid!
im guessing by a pipercross induction kit, u mean the chrome ait filter that just hangs in ur engine yes?
well with this, as its far back in ur engine bay, all it is doing is sucking in HOT air! which makes it worse than ur standard air box!

lol, exactly , thats why im changing my pipercross for a BMC
jamesg88

smileys/smiley5.gif Ummmmmm! What you do in your car is your own business! smileys/smiley4.gif
Saxoboyo, you'll usually find that it would cost more to insure a car with an engine transplant i.e vtr/s into furio, than it would to insure an original vtr/s. Major modification an all that! smileys/smiley4.gif

it sucks that we get crappy power from bigger engine if i had known i would have just got summit else with a smaler engine thats better on petrol hehe.

ok guys, theres alot of banter on this thread, can someone help? ive got a 1.4 furio as well, sick of being left behind by my mates corsa sri (pipercross and exhaust system) and ideas what i could do to get the upperhand?!
all ive really looked at is an induction kit, and im getting a magnex backbox on this wednesday.
Cheers

full exhaust system with decat , 4-2-1 manifold, BMC or green enclosed induction kit.
All that will give a a bit of power. Without going to mad ie: camschip, turbo etc!
Also it might be an idea to start stripping the bitso the car u dont need, like rear seats etc.

11th October 2004, 21:46
Excellent! cheers for the help. anyone have any idea of the prices for some of this stuff off the top of their heads, and the best places to get them from before i go try look it all up?!
do you have to buy a closed induction kit for the furio (like you have to with normal induction kits), or will they fit all saxos?
ideally i would like to buy it all and have a mechanic put it straight in, so if anyone knows if il need any extras to fit all of the above to a furio, please let me know!
Cheers

well BMC said that i needed a 90 degree bend tube to attatch the enclosed filter , but this was only an extra £10 , they look it up under you particular vehicle, but i think some fit both VTR and furio/westcoast. i had custom exhaust system with decat for about £400, but that was a little while ago now. manifolds can sell for between 2 as 4 hundred pounds. Find youself a powerflow dealer near you if u want a custom exhaust. GMC for the manifold. We sell the BMC's at halfords, but ask Gaz at GSMotorsport (PM him) for quote on one for yours as i think he has an offer on at the mo.

cheers for that mate. this may be a silly question but when taking of the cat, how can you make your car pass MOT?
SaxoAL
12th October 2004, 13:57
debateable to be honest mate, if you know some1 in the trade who can overlook it ?
Or an unobservant MOT tester!
or just remove the decat pipe and put the cat back on every year for the MOT. Not that hard to do.

100bhp is possible with the 1.4 block! My westy was running 97.5bhp and 110lbft of torque! To get that sort of power i was using a piper 285 cam, dastek, gmc 4-1 manifold, gmc 4.5bar fpr,de-cat and full exhaust! I would have hit 100bhp if i had got the head port polished when the cam was fitted but i chose not to! smileys/smiley13.gif But it just shows its possible without the use of t/c,s/c or throttle bodies! smileys/smiley2.gif
