Looking more into manifolds, and with mine being a furio, one of my options is that I could get a manifold with a sports cat. What I want to know is will this actually give much benifit? As surely a Cat itslef is very restrictive reguardless?

Change your manifold to one without any cat;
just replace it with the standard item due MOT

Thats probably what i'm going to do, but i'm just looking at my options;)

I think a sports cat would be alot more expensive than a decat option?

Well iv decided im probably going for a GMC 4-1 (£300) as I really really can't be assed with the oil filter issue everytime I have to get an MOT.

But there is a milltek one for the vtr with a sports cat on the downpipe (£425), so im thinking for the extra 100 odd I could save the hassle of changing the manifolds over altogether:y: Just an idea

GMC one is more likely to give you better gains I'd of thought though.
and that would be the point in getting a Manifold,
so imo, get the GMC and suprise some VTRs

Thats exactly what I was thinking..what would be the point? but then I thought there must be some advantages with a sports cat? Im probably gonna just get the GMC one anyways, just gotta try and get some cash:y:

P.S when you getting your manifold?

Karl

not gonna bother with a Manifold, unless sometime next year I come into some cash (very unlikely) and I'll only buy one if I can get some 708s and a remap.

Just get a manifold, its not like you even have to bother refitting it as your cat is under the car, will release some extra ponies too:y:

For the small gains that your gain in terms of a decat I think if I owned a Phase2 R Id go for the combined 4branch and Sports cat just so I didnt have to change manifolds a week before MoT time then change it back afterwards.

Dont forget you will have to check if the the GMC item needs the oilfilter moved as Im sure with the RaceLand 4-2-1 you have to convert to a Phase1 oilfilter, like I said in the other thread check as Im no 8v expert

Karl

he owns a Furio, so he needs that extra 1-2bhp of decatting it ;)

For the gmc there is no need to relocating the oil filter

lol
I was only mucking about.
anyways, just pointed out as I thought you had thought his car was a mk2 R.

I wasnt sure, thats why I mentioned it. Well its a tuff one to call, I mean £125 is still £125 . . . Buuuuuuuut on the otherhand how much is it gona cost to fit the GMC then remove it and refit the factory item, then remove the factory item and refit the GMC I reckon that in itself would cost more than the difference between the GMC and the Milltek.

Think your have to have a really good hard think about this one mate.

lol

Du know somebody gave me Bad rep for saying in my side bar <<<< The S stands for Super!

The comment with the rep said 'A childiss comment, everybody knows the S stands for Sportieff' lol Now you gota find that funny :p

Back to the manifold tho mate, I think to fit RaceLand manifolds to a Phase2 R you have to use a Phase1 Oil housing as otherwise the manifold catchs on the oilfilter, I think thats correct - But Im not 8v expert

It's not a VTR.

with the raceland you certainly do. Not sure about the supersprint and the piper 4-1 we can supply as no-ones fed back either way.

but its an 8v so most likely going to have the same problems..

Karl the VTR and the Furio are both the sam layout 8v engine.

Just like the 1.4 and 1.6 CVH's in the Ford world, all they doen was pretty much bored em out more.

So the oilfilter problem would be the same for a Furio as it would be for the VTR mate  Or at least I think its is . . .

Am I right Kam-Racing?

Well iv just emailed them about the milltek manifold with a sports cat, as I think its definatly worth a look for the extra 125quid, so if it fits then iv got some thinking to do....Otherwise bring on the GMC 4-1:A:

Karl
22nd June 2007, 11:40
Oh okay.

125 quid is alot of extra cash,
could get your motor lowered for that?

yea but iv decided if and when I lower it, it will be on a Bilstein Sprintline + Eibach Sportline kit ;)

That is a good point, but if he goes for the GMC he will have to have it removed, then have the factory cat manifold fitted, MoT the car, then remove the factory item and refit the GMC.

Im sure that would cost £125 if not more so there is your saving but like I said he's gota think about this quite hard as one way he needs to change the manifold each year, the other will cost him an extra £125 and maynot be slightly as good performance wise as the other but he will be saving the planet ;)

RedB

Think il be getting Bilstein sports kit and do the suspension properly

De-catting mine, new manifold and full system then re-fit CAT when Mr MOT time comes ;)

Oh I forgot to add that when I do finally get a manifold ill be fitting it myslef (hopefully) with the help of Dangerous Dan. As i like to do things myslef, as its the only way you learn

Also out of interest is it possible to pass an MOT without a cat on a saxo?

No I just meant Dave is just generally a dodgy name.
Mike (did have the purple S) works for Jag and can MOT though, but he is straight as the bible when it comes to work.

Oh well then its just down to the £125 difference then.

You never know somepeople want to save the earth so the kids can muck it up :p

Karl
22nd June 2007, 11:58
well if you want to learn things, buy the Decat manfiold from GMC,
which will more than likely will be better for performance.
Save some dollar and do a manifold swapping sesh one day every year. ;)
