But the thing is on a std engine you aren't going to notice any gains really in an expensive arfilter..

You may gain a 2 or 3 bhp max but thats not going to be that noticeable tbh..

ok, would you also recomend chipping it?

u u better not be on about those ebay chips lol?

you may aswell drop a VTR Lump in buddy and change the rear axle to VTR ones so you have discs all around.

there is more to getting power then just putting in a chip.like upgradein cams etc etc to take on the extra power you are asking it to do tho it may not be capable of handling it so you may do more harm then good.

get ur handling done first man you got upper and lower struts yet and is it lowerd?

i agree with james_bristol on this I educated a fellow sax-p member on this matter she has learnt fast to :).

the only thing ul get from putting in the induction kit is a bigger noise when u floor it and in first n second gear it will feel just that lil more powerful on the pulling power to get u moving thats it nothing special.

if you got hte money then get a BMC Enclosed or Green Cotton as said they really are the best. for noise go for K&N or Pipercross ok ;) hope thats helped u out a lil bit m8

i was thinkin about getting eibach lowering springs? but again, how hard is it to put discs on the rear? also easy to upgrade front brakes, brembos look good, but im not sure what i am really buyin, but i dont have the money to buy a big brake kit yet

Eibach i would defo recommend for springs to lower it. Brakes....depending what wheels your on i'd get some 206 GTi or some GTi-6 brakes off WilliamsVTS.

better breaking for a start then u can look at doin more serious mods to ur engine for u got the breaks to stop the extra power u may add to the car.

nothing worse then putting a vtr engine into a 1.4 and then u brake hard n ur front stops but back keeps goin cos drums aint as good as discs ;)

thats basicly how my mate wrote his saxo off (silly boy lol)

if ur not goin mad on ur car then keep it how it is man :) and do more stuff inside the car a interior etc etc :) where u loose in one area u can gain in another i say :P

don't see how it makes a diff him having an R engine in tbh, unless he was speeding? however better brakes are needed on any saxo tbh, VTS or a 1.0 they suck full stop!

so true lol

yeh think thats what my mate did lol but just as an example an emergancy stop would be longer to do if it had a vtr engine in with 1.4 brakes cos the breaks aint setup for a vtr there for a 1.4 thats where my mate made the mistake.

but yeh brakes on all saxos are total crap lmfao full stop no joke hahahaha

but anyways back on track with airfilter

what are you getting itfor

trying to

Increase noise?
Performance?
Looks?

all 3 really, but i think noie would b the main reason, as you sed, it would improve the cars performance much?

for noise get pipercross or K&N

if u want to meet half way then id say an open green cotton :) just buy some cold air feed piping to direct more cold air to the filter ;)

the first car I modified properly for myself was a 1.4. bolt on mods will not give you massive gains in power so consentrate on removing any restrictions, namely the induction and exhaust. then lose weight and get the best suspension you can

engine wise a BMC CDA130 will be the best that you can fit without modifications then look at the manifold / exhaust. raceland are a great 'budget' manifold that pulls well above its price bracket, for better build quality look at Supersprint. then a full exhaust, perhaps a supersprint race centre sections and the backbox of your choice. note though it won't pass an MOT in this configuration.

after that concentrate on the suspension and handling as a good job there will let you run rings around cars with more power and a poorer setup. my personal choice at the time of building the 1.4 was Leda coilovers and a coilover conversion for the rear. out of budget for most though. failing a lottery win you can't go wrong with a Bilstein group N suspension setup with perhaps some H&R or Eibach 200Ib springs. a little clunky on the road but liveable with. out on track fantastic.

I agree with Kam there...

My 1.4 on bilstein dampers and 206 GTI brakes was very good on track..Was keeping up with a Saxmax race car and embarrasing pretty much everything that wasn't a lotus or caterham..:y:
