how restrictive is the original vtr air intake. the reason i ask is that why would the car manufacturer make an airbox that would restric the airflow and fuck the car. i am thinking about just removing the silencer box and running some tube to an open space to get maximum airflow. this sound any good or am i just talkingt a load of bollocks:homme:
You will need some sort of filtration if your gonna get rid of the OE airbox. Ever considered a BMC CDA or something similiar?

sorry people i think i may have pulled a homer. i dont mean get rid of the whole lot just the second silencer box from the system. i will run the tube from where the second silencer connects and then keep the first box and just put an uprated filter in the oe box:y:

its fine for a standard vtr but if you modify your engine in other AREAS THEN IT BECOMES RESTRICTIVE. (sorry caps) you have to remember that citroen and any other car company want to make something that isnt gonna cost them a shi* load to make all the time and to design & test for i dont know how long...

Basically the OE airbox itself is a good self contained unit, the big problem is the retrictive pipework feeding it.
If you was to remove all the plastic tubing and replace it with a direct cold air feed directly into the airbox Im sure your see a small gain in throttle response (Please note I said small).
A panel filter from the likes of K&N/Green etc wont increase performance but more filtration of dirt but thats not a bad thing.
Thry that and see what the difference is, dont be suprised if you see not real gain tho
