hiya guys, my mate is a rich git, and his grandparents, who have recently won the lottery, and for his 1st car, have bought him a brand spanking new Fiesta ST!!! Anyway, he is extremely smug, and takes the piss out of me/mates because our cars arent as fast, which is just nasty IMO...Anyway, i told him that a cammed and remapped plus breathing modded VTR, would keep up with an ST? Whats your opinion on this? I know a Standard VTS is faster because one hammered his car the other day!

In a straight line, a stock Vts isn't significantly quicker than a Fiesta ST. In fact imo there'd be hardly anything in it. I'd say the Fiesta might even pull away slightly at the top end due to bigger engine. If your friend got 'hammered' he either wasn't trying or the Vts wasn't standard.

Just look at the roadtest figures, Autocar tested the ST as follows:

0-60mph 7.8
0-100mph 21.8

Evo tested a Vts as follows:

0-60mph 7.6
0-100mph 22.6

As for the Vtr, yes, I think with those mods it would be roughly on a par with the ST.

lol you said it mate :clapping:

VTR wouldnt but a VTS would keep up before the ST pulls away top end, my mates also got one, but im not keen on em tbh

modded VTS looks nicer and is cheaper ftw
Any chance they're still feeling generous ang fancy getting me some throttle bodies so i can wipe that smug smile off his face lol?

Well as for the car banter, that is very common mate. All my friends do it, but they are always moaning as their insurance is high and mine isn't so I have more money for making the saxo into a sexo lol.

Anyways more to the point, a cammed and remaped VTR would be quicker than a VTS all depending on what cam are being used. Crazy camage such as 708 catcams wouldn't work on a VTR as they are only for 16v cars not 8v (I think)

cammed vtr would be on par with an st. a stripped vts would leave one but as standard the vts is about the same.

a stripped, cammed vts... well thats another story ;) *cough* i can leave em for dead *cough*

Been covered in loads of places.

Once the ST hits 5th its away. Not as quick pulling away, as the tourqe controller kicks in.

Cant compare a standard car and a cammed car..

Still no need for the p*ss taking out of mates cars.

ive been in a ST which was around 170bhp it had full miltek system + manifold + bluefin chip, it keep up with 04 standard civic type r till about 90mph. was well impressed with the ST performance even when standard

One of my best friends has bought one about 4 months ago. On my Vts I have a full exhaust system and he has the same on his st. we have little races all the time and we just sit side by side unless one of us gets a bad start...
the only difference is I have saved about £10000 and poeple dont expect a saxo to be as qiuck as it is, whereas the st looks like its fast but it doesnt actually go as quick as expected.

If i won loads of money like that i tell u this now i wudnt be buyin a Fiesta ST.....partly because its ford and i think there cheap and tacky........personally i would of gone for a Clio 182

Well cant comment on it against Cammed VTR cos i dont no wat one will beform like but shall soon see in a few months when i got mine all tuned up :y:

As for a VTS im supprise how quick they are......for a 1.6, wanna drive one!!!!

One of my mates had a Festa ST when i had my VTR obviously couldnt drive as he couldnt shake me. My VT was standard.

a standard VTS isnt silly fast.
it performs well for a 1.6, but has a huge weight advantage over the Fiesta, hence why it outperforms it to 60mph.

I should imagine a cammed VTS, such as spencers would eat it.

I no a stanard VTR wudnt beat it but put this in to perspective......me in my VTR raced a 2.0 16v Vectra lol cudnt shake me off was right behind him........cant imagen wat my VTR wud be like if it was cammed.....manifold and remapped.....which will be happening sooner or later

But!......its all power to weight ratio mainly

an extra 16bhp and ill bet im a good 300kg's lighter!

yer standard vts's are fast for a 1.6 but only because of power to weight lads

On the down side though, as soon as you start talking bolt ons (as people are talking cammed VTS's), the ST is going to piss on any similarly modified VTS due to the fact that the 2.0 Duratec motor kicks out shit loads of power once modded. Just fitting ITBs pushes the power output to 190bhp on stock cams. Cams take you to 230, after that, headwork and high comp pistons can take you to 280bhp.

And if you get bored, then there's always the 2.3 swap available.

Horses for courses really.

Just be patient, when his lump drops out due to rust you'll win easy peasy!

FYI

standard VTS does NOT beat a fiesta ST! 4th gear 5k revs in VTS the ST was away!
Depends on drivers but i didnt really put a foot wrong tbh

note this was on private land not some street race :y:

bit off topic, i thought my VTS would be faster than it is, my VTR felt alot quicker as could feel it pulling all the way through the revs, VTS just feels smooth then all hell at around 4k lol :y:

Also with VTR fuel hardly ever went down, even killing the S at 2k still guzzles fuel :(

Couldn't agree more. The lump in the ST is so down-tuned (if you like...) which gives it loads of potential for the avid modder.

I have a C2 VTS and have raced ST's quite a bit.. They are exactly the same as mine upto about 85-90 and then the 2.0 starts going and they edge off. However the ST has a very restricted manifold so i have heard and so if you got a 4 branch on there i think they would be a LOT quicker.
