i have a 1.4 (converted 2 a vts), is it value for money to get it remapped bcoz iv done sum research n it will cost me about £300, if i do get it remapped do i need to get cams n pulleys put on etc.
recently some guy told me he could build me a low ratio gearbox which would speed my acceleration up but will also keep topspeed high, just wunderin if any1 knows if this would work or shud i put a 1.4 gearbox in my vts?
any ideas?

remappin is ok but if i was you i would buy a 4-2-1 manifold with the money instead. make sure u get a stainless steel 1. wot engine mods do you have so far. if you get it remapped now and add more perfomance mods to it the ecu wont reckognise whats happenin as were if you do it when its all done it remaps it to that. gearbox side of things ask the bloke who rebuildin it if he can get a drive from a 106 s1 rallye gearbox

remaps are usually done last after all the modifcations are done to the engine

no point in remapping a standard engine. and you cant have a short ratio gearbox that will keep a high top speed. i would keep the vts box on.

Yeah ~ totally agree, if your running a standard VTS atm, a Remap would be a big waste of $

Just to mention, having a different gearbox will not disrupt the map either. So you change the box after a map, at no ill effects.

It tends to cost over £400 for a good remap. There are some cowboys out there some (well many) be careful. You really should have many other significant modifications before spending your cash on a remap.

This can not be done. Well unless there giving you a 6 speed gearbox and they will not be. I know there are a few people swapping 5th gears in gearboxs but this does not really work. It basically ends up with you having a 4 speed and as you may guess 4 speed is slower. I have seen people putting really low final drives in and then a really tall 5th as well. This works shockingly bad and you effectively end up with 3 usable gears.
