Righto so ive found me a gti/vts lump with 48,000 miles done.
I plan to have it
ported and polished
lightened and balanced
some larey cams (please recomendations are welcome
and then my green cotton enclosed filter. 4-2-1 manifold, decat, straight through, scorpion backbox.
what sort of bhp will i be looking at do you guys recon?

depends on cam profile.
also cant run really lairy cams on std inlet manifold.
need TBs to run mega mad cams.
160-165bhp is a target on catcams 708s with good headwork but thats being wishful.
personally dont see a point in a L/B bottom end unless running mega spec cams that need a 8.5k plus revlimit.

not alot of point if you dont need to do it. your just spending money for the sake of it.
id get a nice set of forgies in there, and then it means you have the ability to run uber wild cams and TBs at a later date.

Yeh get some forgies in there, and some nice cams!! If your doing it youself it will save you taking the engine apart again at a later date.

As said there is no point lightening and balancing the bottom end. There very good as standard so if your pushing it past what a stock engine can do its really time to start replacing parts.
Dont forget to put money aside for mapping and a higher flow fuel pressure regulator.
