Got a slight blow from both gaskets on the manifold, one on the bottom end of down section, one on the engine itself...

Gaskets are cheap enough, how easy to change?

Do i need to use a gasket sealant or anything.

Astra Coupe BTW!

I dont know of any head to exhaust manifold that uses sealant, it will be a shiny metal gasket at the top and maybe the same at the bottom maybe a paper item.

Personally Id go for main dealer items on both, as for fitting as the car isnt that old it should just be the bolts holding it to the head which shouldnt be that rusted through heat but best to soak over night maybe longer with WD40 at the bottom Im guessing it will be two bolts that hold the down pipe to the cat or begining of the system depending on the system layout.

Its not easy working on your back but it will be much cheaper than having somebody do it, your choice just remember if you snap a head bold on the maifold you gota deal with it, if someone else does that its their job to sort it.

Your choice

See what your saying mate, Had a new flex fitted and had nothing but problems with it, wanting to have a go myself but i know how brittle these bolts can be.....

Some just shear off as soon as you turn them, Its risky....

In two minds now...

Well just make sure you have plenty of WD40 on them few nights before.

Check one at a time, if even one dosent look like its gone move without snapping then have it done by someone, also make sure you have a few of the correct size nuts aswell just incase you split one.

All i know is i tried tightening some up on the heat shield underneath surrounding the cat, as soon as i touched them with a rachet they snapped.
