I have a Saxo VTR 1.6 8v (V plate) and my mate has a Clio 1.4 16v (53 plate) both standard...
If i'm right mine is 90bhp but his is 95bhp who would you back in a street race... bearing in mind the weight of both cars?

I personally would put my money on the VTR.
Do you and your mate look anything like this by any chance?

vtr = 90bhp 0-60 mph in 9.9 secs top speed of 116mph
clio = 98bhp 0-60 in 10.2 secs top speed of 115mph
so in theory your vtr will be faster but the times are so close that it will probably be more of who has the better driver accuratcy/skills

Lol, why is everyone round here so anti-performance? The guy simply asked what would be faster, what is wrong with that? This is a Saxo enthusiast forum, most of us on here are enthusiastic drivers, if we werent we would be going round in 800cc city-cars, we are obviously going to want to compare our cars to others, epsecially those of us with Furio/VTR/VTS etc models, we don't pay high insurance costs to drive round like old women for crying out loud. People have to stop pretending to be so righteous and let their hair down a little- why are so many people surprised and irritated by performance comparisons? Sure, racing on the open road isn't good, but if anyone here NEVER breaks the limit, please speak up. I recently got myself a VTS and theres a kid on my block who owns a black Fiesta Zetec-S who keeps glaring at me when I drive past, I'd happily love to smoke him on the open road if i get the chance, provided its safe. Big f***ing deal.
Mate, thats a very good comparison, and I'd love to see a short sprint between the two, in safe conditions of course, on a deserted stretch of road where there are no pedestrians etc. Of course Santa Pod is more desirable but not everyone can get there at the same time etc. In a race I'd say the VTR would pip it, because its a generally more sporting set up, but the Clio 16v is nippy too. Clio is better for comfort and toys etc, but the Saxo is probabaly more nimble.
Question answered. See, weren't all that hard chaps, eh?? I was under the impression this was a place where enthusiats can come to discuss motoring issues, be it technical matters of performance comparisons. If people don't like something they don't need to preach, just leave it out and go drive 20mph to Tescos, as you do.

LOL love it, but then if you race a super-pimped RX7 like Vin you look like a damn hero, no one says a bad word to you, the girls run after you, your peers give you all the respect, you go home and partay, no one gets killed, you grow 18inch biceps, cops can't catch you for cack, etc etc etc etc. Hmmmm... in that case we've all got the wrong ride, chaps.
Btw I don't street race, too afraid I'd destroy something on my Saxo. Racing on the road is wrong yes, but on a quiet patch of road, no one out to crash into, as long as speeds are low, a small short contest isn't unforgivable, surely.

I would imagine the Clio is slightly heavier than the VTR too so maybe that would help in a sprint. My mate got his VTR down to 9.7 in a 0-60mph test. That was with 3 people in the car too so may even be a tad quicker.
Cheers

Itsafastworld, I see your point, but lets have some perspective here. Many young drivers are happy to be able to drive an entry-level sporty car, and so they are going to want to compare it with others, its normal. And not just 17yr old baseball cap wearing chavs with silly bodykits that weigh more than pluto and subs that sound like a morbid Texan hurricane. I'm 19, no points or crashes ever, a university student of law, many would say I'm exceptionally mature for my age, I don't go round with my cap on, nor a smoke in my mouth, wearing a hoody nor blaring out drum and bass, I'm just a motoring enthusiast, and sure I like to compare my VTS with other cars, its interesting. And if I have a little play about with a similar performance model on a safe patch of road, purely for comparisons purposes and if conditions permit reasonably safe use of my vehicle, there is little wrong with that.

Indeed it might do, but I'm still unqualified at the moment:)
And let me tell you, lawyers and the like are the worst, I know many of them who would happily push their M3s and E500 Mercs as quick as they will go on the open road, seriously reaching unhealthy speeds. A 26 year old friend of mine is a qualified surgeon earning BIG bucks and last week he pushed his 2005 modified Subaru Impreza soo hard on the motorway at night it's engine blew. I don't know what he did to the poor thing, he just said, "silly girl couldn't take a bit of redlining."

Right, point taken, but what is the real world then? Public road? Exactly. Again I don't condone street racing, its silly, dangerous and foolish, but if done it can be done reasonably safely in good conditions, provided there is no excess of speed and no stupidly heroic menouvers which will cause a crash. My point is that a small drag sprint to say 60 isn't that as wrong as people make it out to be.
And sure, Parkers is a good guide, you're absolutely right. Has all the stats you need. I wasn't having a go at you its just that I've seen forums on here where people make comparisons and get unfairly flamed for it, people should just relax a little. This is real world driving.

i flame people because im fed up of seing the same shit day in day out.
vts top speed is one thread for example, theres another what is faster thread below etc..
if people were to just check the book figures it wouls stop crap threads clogging up the engine section where alot of useful threads are active.
why say a car is faster on paper if your not going to test it in the real world.
i could have a 1000bhp skyline, but if i couldnt change gear i could be beaten by a doddery old bint in her 1.0L micra.
ive not commented bout street racing, just that these threads are as gay as george michael
