always wondered this, what kind of engine could you put in above the 1.6 16v lumo?

The xsara vts/GTI-6 engines which i think are 2litre.
It takes loads of work to fit these btw.

Technically there are loads of engine that would fit in the engine bay but you would end up spending £000's and changing almost everything. Sensibly the VTS engine would be the most suitable swop.

lads have a search. basically no point as weighs to much and upsets handling and they dont have much power anyways. you best just charging the 16v lump

just go for a vts conversion.

its asked a lot, even one of my first threads was on this :p

figured that would be the answer, bodies or forced induction on a vts lump! it does look fairly tight in a saxo bay

you can get one in the boot, search for the honda civic type r engine in the rear of a saxo :y:
but costs a hell of a lot

if i was gonna do that i'd get hold of a rover v8!!oh yeah!

and then you would need to weight it down in the front as it will look like a tractor on the front :p

Good luck getting round corners with a V8 in the rear.

I have seen a 2ltr 16v 106 tht handles!! Im sure bics new one will handle well.
But yeh it will be alot of work, and the vts enigne is the more sensible option but it depends on funds and what the car is for.

ive seen the gti 6 in the 106, had the 6 box as well, turning circle was dangerous by the looks of it, best tuning the 16v

I'd like to fit the ford Duratec engine in the front of a Saxo but our customers haven't as of yet shared the enthusiasm. Ligthweight and tunable to 220bhp with just TBs! Perhaps that or the B16/B18
Everyone goes for the Gti6 and there are much better engines out there that would be more suitable.
Many are purists and have to fit a PSA engine.

Why not a new EW if it must be a PSA engine. Its arguable as good if not better than the equivalent Ford or Honda engine.

honda type r - 2l fairly light and tuneable

Pah..Ford engines are bollocks..The cosworth engines and the BDX and BDA's are good but the modern average ones are terrible..
Just put a VTS engine in if you half to change your engine..You could get the 2.0 litre in there and handle well with no probs but just costs quite abit..Cam a VTS engine up on TB's, depending on how far you go you could be looking at 210bhp+..:)

Ironically that is really a Zetec engine but with variable inlet cam timing that is in the ST170. They just called it a Duratec for marketing when in reality its not related at all. He is talking about the real Duratec engine as found in even the more mundane models Ford’s and Mazda’s out there.

210bhp from a normally aspirated 1.6 VTS engine is very hard to get. You are talking a full race engine there that requires a service every 500miles tops. We change the oil every race. A ford Duratec with that much power will be bomb proof and just need servicing as a stock road car would.

just get a vts engine with cams etc in, and itll be alot faster..

Not so. There is method to my madness. I nearly fitted the Duratec into by 309. Then I found the Honda S2000 engine and that took its place!
The 2.0 duratec was designed by Mazda :y:
Have a read of this article from fast car and you should start to see why these are good engines. They are not a motorsport engine in road trim like the BDA or YB.

The weight is a factor. Engine and transmission are in the region of 160kgs off the top of my head!

Yea, i was being silly lol!!!!!. Pretty funny you know the rough weight of it.
Imo the 1.6 with either turbo or bodies is enough!!!!

I know..Hence why i said "depending on how much you want to spend"..
Kam-I know..was just pulling your leg..Some of the Zetec's aint that special though imo..

Just read the article Kam..they sounded ok actually until they said the conrods and pistons are feeble..lol
And that the bearings etc wouldn't take much high revving action..:P

a lot of the Rallycross fords use them now.. albeit with lots of mods to create 500bhp turbo monsters..
the basis is there still... and still has a lot going for it vs the 1.6 TU
