its the bears in your gear box they will have worn away you can tell by draining the oil etc outta your gear box cu it will have ground up bits of metal in it!! Same happened to mine mate by giving it more hammer than it could take haha, i got a re-conditioned one for £600 when shitreon was asking for £1500 for the same thing! smileys/smiley5.gif

but it is normal to have worn bits of metal in your gearbox oil, they will normally stick to the drain plugs, known as swarf its normal to have a bit but if you have an excessive amount and a few teeth then your in troublesmileys/smiley17.gif

well if any1 wants a mk2 vtr box ket me know ill happily give them mine... its fine at the moment sounds just like a grinda if you give it some welly & try & change quikly! lol... Any idea why it sounds so fcuking noisey at idle also! is it the clutch plates!? its since if had the bmc enclosed ind kit that ive noticed the change! is it true the vtr box is only good for 110bhp!or there bouts... thats wot i was running with the pipercross open filter before...(hmm gti box & paddle clutch on the way then!!)smileys/smiley4.gif

gti box, vts box, 1.1 box, 1.4 box. All made of the exact same thing all the same strength

obvoisly they cant all take the same amount of bhp tho!? can they? gti box for fuel economy down the motor way... 1-2-3 out of a 106 rally! if i can find one....
Scott
21st December 2004, 06:37
yes they are all made the same way and will all take the exact same abuse.
GTI box defo not best for economy, if you want economy stick with the vtr box its the longest, vts/1.1/gti are shorter ratio and will not be as economical. i.e. 70mph in the vtr is 3000 rpm (ish) and 3500rpm (ish) in the vts

lol... very similar boxes i know sum1 whos got a gti box in his 1.4pug it flys to 3rd gear then revs just die, so he saves £'s on fuel. smileys/smiley4.gif well ill stick with my box & just change the first 3 gears. See how it goes.
