Hey... I've got a few problems.. Now let me first state I'm not a mechanic.. only had my car just over a year, and have only been interested in cars the moment i got my car.
But.. A mate of mine offered to do an exhaust conversion for me.
I have a Saxo 1.1 LX.
Anyway.. He had a burtons backbox, cut off a length of the pipe from my exhaust (due to it being on an angle and would require too much bumper cut)
He then got a small bit of pipe which he welded one end onto the original pipe..
But then used a clamp on the other end.. Which i cant see why.. He kept telling me to just keep putting gumgum on.. But obviously where it's not been welded it'll keep moving (the pipe) and the gumgum will keep crumbling off..
Is this normal? Would a garage do such a thing? or would everything be welded..
I always thought gumgum was just for a small hole if you had a tiny blow in your exhaust..
I'm considering getting the exhaust pipe that connects from the cat, and goes to the backbox.. Maybe a VTR one if i can find it.. then get a new backbox, and take it to a garage..
How much would they charge to cut the old backbox off the new pipe., and then weld the new backbox off.. If i supply the pipe and backbox?
Greg.
