I don't really think it needs to be someone who is a guru on the subject just someone who can keep the forums in order, prevent arguments etc, is trustworthy and online regularly..

28th August 2007, 19:20
persnally i think simo you should make a test paper/email and get people to answer the relevant questions then people can put there money where there mouth is ;).

i can easily say look i have a dam degree in saxo's engines (total rubbish like lol) but its all about getting the right person for the right job and i think putting a proper test on will solve the problem.

people who are serious about wanting the position would open there arms to do a test to show what they know about the car.

My money's with Ryan, he is :homme: but lets not hold that against him. Lets face it he knows what he's talking about, i've sent him numerous pm's in the past to ask questions, and if i ever had a problem with anything and i was unsure about something, the first name that creeps into my head is Ryan aka Itsafastworld85!

so im going with Ry FTW!

RY, You can make cheques payable to O.Seamer, thanks ;)

Itsafastworld knows his stuff so i think that he would be perfect for the role, however i have seen that AXracing has some very good knowledge especially when it comes to turbos etc. He hasnt been on the site that long though.

AX racing is well respected on many forums, as said he has only just started really using saxP.

he has alot of great knowlege and its good that he is sharing it on here now tbh.

8v engines and turbos ive read alot of his posts.

what would you rather have someone coming across a lil arssy but knows what there on about or someone totally awesome but know F**k all about a car LOL.

I rest my case.

you have to take things with a pintch of salt sometimes with certain members on here its an easy thing if you cant do that then its you with the problem.

as i always say to ppl.

Im glad someone talks about me behind my back cos i dont think F**k all about them lol. (there isa moral to that sentance but il leave you all to figure it out for yourselfs)

bullit
28th August 2007, 22:00
as said really. ryan for me. and the end of the day he helps people no matter what. if it wasnt for him in here then the engine section wouldnt be what it is imo. same goes for pred and hessle, all of whom have put countless hours in to helping people for the good of the site. which basically what its all about

Ryan
28th August 2007, 22:04
id like to also point out adsayer - inbetween spamming the fuck out of everything has some very relevant information on suspension geometry etc...

irc its his masters project. so theres a whole load of information to be gained from all users of this site.

aswell as more physics related stuff on gas speeds etc..

so another consideration imo.

for a general yes but for someone chosen is to not just mod but look after the technical sections then knowledge is needed. someones got to know whats works and what doesnt, what fits etc so false information isnt posted as much. etc. thus running smoother

Bullit replying to the same post twice, i like it.

I can understand the point of having someone who knows what they are doing moderating but is too much knowledge of a subject a good thing. Does it mean, say, that if someone asks a question and someone answer's it wrongly that the mod will come in, answer it, belittle the person who answered it wrong and then close it. I've always thought a mod is there to make sure the forum doesn't get out of hand?

I'd personally say people such as Adsayer, furioal, Pred are all quite level headed people on the forums. You don't really see them in the thick of a pointless e-argument.

Predator FTW!!(learnt the ftw saying now lol)
Anyways on a serious note, i do not kno anyone on this forum that first helped me besides predator. He is a helpful member, and as staff id say you would not be disapointed. He willl help anyone he can and is a source of countless information :D and has awesome how-to-guides. !!

why close a thread if youve corrected the information?
its no longer a discussion - which is what 95% of the threads are about.

the only threads that really need locking are the usual ebay shit ones, and ones which get repeated weekly.

thats tidying it up and making it run smoothly aswell as getting the correct information to the users required.

I definatly think Ryan should be mod as i have said before..He knows an awful lot and since i have been speaking to him on MSN i have learned alot..Not just about cars but photography too..He's a very handy chap to have about and he is on here an awful lot aswell, which i think is a huge deciding factor into choosing a moderator..

This is also a reason why i would like to have a moderator position as i'm on here everyday, i know more than enough about saxo's, i have first hand experience with the modding side of things etc aswell..

:y:

Vinny_VSX
28th August 2007, 23:54
Ryan does know his stuff. Very knowledgeable about saxo's and about camera's as well. But (no offence at all mate) I don't like his replies to some people. He can come accross as a bit arsey and some users might get a bit frustrated. I am sure he is a sound guy in person though and I will be probally eating my words after meeting him at traxs.

Anyways I have known James_Bristol for nearly a year and quite regulary hang out with him. He has tought me a lot about the saxo in general. Which has proven to be very handy. So your probally thinking, hmm I will be voting for James. But your wrong, as he owes me Ł2 ahahaha.

Ok enough mumbo jumbo. Hands up for Ryan to be mod and then hands up for James? You know the rest ;)

It shouldnt be restricted to just one

I have ryan on speed text so its ok if hes not mod but i know alot of people see his comments as arsey, but normally when he is, its a stupid question thats been asked or someones failed to see that hes joking, he knows all his stuff and is very helpful.

pred and hessle do know there stuff as well tho

i think there should be a few

Colin
29th August 2007, 11:22
Me lol.

EDIT.

I'd like to be one but im not on here alot. Ive learned so much about saxos and mainly from williams.

But I have first hand experience at building rally cars, drag bikes and american muscle cars.

I have a good knowledge of cars in general, as ive done NVQs etc, not just Saxos.

So I will put my name down to be a Moderator.

Oh and im NEVER in general chat or anything like that lol.

Mystic
29th August 2007, 11:35
What would a "Tech mod" acctually do?

General moderation of the technical forums? In which case any responsible member could do it. Or would they moderate misinformation aswell & thus need pretty good technical knowledge.

I'll put my name forward for consideration. I tend to spend more time in the tech forums than the general ones anyway & i think my reputation comments will back that up too. Most of what i know, i've learned in here & the rest from working on my (poor) saxo ;)

I'd say im a little less 'cliquey' than some of the other more obvious candidates too, which may or may not work well for me in a poll :detective:

a key comment there, moderating a forum is about keeping the forum running smoothly, not locking threads for the sake of it (as in my experience the more threads get locked the less people are willing to post on the forums), not about being part of a group who are 'to cool for school'

id also like to comment that half of the people with derogative comments against me barely even post in this section lol!

At the end of the day the man is giving you the help and information up front. Ryan is just being truthful and giving you no B/S, if you ask a straight sensible techie question then he will give you an asnwer.

The only reason he may seem up it is because people just don't listen sometimes and shoose to ignore what is good advice.

At the end of the day what would you prefer good up front advice or shite nicey nicey bollocks?

in the engine section we often see saxp fucktards, ryan can help wash them away

I totally agree with this… think there are from time to time quit a lot of fucktards that come into the technical sections and it gives saxos a bad name!

All the people who post about ebay chips, open filters, electric supercharges, spamming, people who boast, bhp questions and just randomly crap threads get on my tits!

I think that the less BS there is in a forum, more technically minded people are going to browse and post and the forum will become more useful for everyone.

They need to be put in their place and directed to a sticky rather than a pointless discussion. Its been getting better recently though

IMO there should be a few moderators who just cut out the BS. There are loads of people on here who are knowledgeable and consistently helpful and in need of a promotion…

Just to name a few: itsafastworld85, kamracing, axracing, williamsvts, stevenet15, toad, adsayer, hesslevtr, gabbastard, predator_vtr….

Just a few names that stick out as good candidates there are loads more though sorry if I didn’t mention you…

That’s from when I put that Gti engine in... cheers for the tips on that btw… if only you’d told me I didn’t need to take the front off before I’d actually taken it off lol made it easier though!

'Some' good discussion going on in here peeps.

The position(s) up for grabs do require a technical knowledge, as that is the main reason for the appointment... to have someone available to keep threads on track, to stop the promotion of bad advice, which more often than not people pick up, then try to pass on to others. :err:

I'd like to develop a truly 'technical' aspect to the forum, for hard core tech-heads... but currently am not sure how this would integrate with the more general technical forums. :err:

Its pleasing to see some of the candidates I had thought of, have put themselves forward.

Myself and Scott will discuss this in more detail and let you know whats going to happen.

Off the top of my head though, I'd say it's likely there will be 3 appointments in the tech forums... and maybe a few other changes thrown in too.

to stop the promotion of bad advice, which more often than not people pick up, then try to pass on to others

i totally agree with that as in some threads i have read posts that give totally wrong advice e.g lowering by notches and then thats passed on to one person and then they pass on to another and so on then everyone thinks lowering by notches is the right way when its not. So i thinks its a great idea that if we have 3 people assigned to help reduce bad advice it will benifit everyone

Yates would be good for the job, seems to know what hes doing with his car

I have only got round to reading this thread and nominate anyone but me lol. But thanks for the nomination guys. I would tend to say avoid any one that is on here partly for a living. Such as engine tuners and tuning parts supplies. Whoever is picked it must be some one who really wants to or there is no point. Itsafasworld85 wants to so it I say let him. I think he would be quite good at it and not just take the piss.
