petrol cap guide
thort i would do a guide to petrol caps, i now theres one on here but wanted to do a proper one with pics,
to remove the key from the cap, grab an old knife and your petrol cap, a spear pear of hands will help but isnt a must (and for sum people on here a supervising adult) insert the knife in betwen the white plastic prong and the metal prong like this ![]() then just use the knife to push the 2 prongs apart(you only need to do one side of the cap), when there about 5mm apart the key will turn and can be pulled from the cap ![]() on to removeing the body colourd cap from the lock mec, you must have the key out for this take your kniffe and insert it betwen the lock mec and the plastic cover ![]() then twisting the knife (pull the knife handle towards you)with a bit of force the cap will come away on one side, grab each bit and thay will pull apart(in a braking type movement) hope this helps a few people any questions ell free to ask this will be getting linked to my other guides in the stickys |

I don't understand why you dont just turn the key like you you would aftre you have filled the tank?
I know you will have to use your hand to stop the body of the lock rotating (as if it were in the filler neck) but it's essy enough and saves messing round with tools. Please feel free to flame if I have missed the point here guys. Cheers |

I give an example, I got a peugeot 106 cap off ebay to replace the horrible metal one that came with my car. It came with a key in it, If you hold the back of the lock and turn the key to the locked position the key will pull out. The cap is then left in a locked state until you put the key back in and turn it again.
There are two raised sections on the lock, sort of like tabs, that when aligned allow the cap to enter the filler neck. When locked these raised sections are rotated 90 degrees to secure the cap to the filler neck. If you are looking at the lock from the back: =o= is unlocked . | =o= is the locked position . | So we doing the same thing really, you use a knife, i use hand. |

With the cap off the car grab the body coloured part of the cap in one hand to stop it moving and trurn the key to the locked position (clockwise I think) then the key will come out.
There's no magic trick or extra tools needed - you just need to fool the cap into thinking it is on the car and locked. |

i had someone on here ring me to tell me how to do it in the end, was bloody difficult youve gotta like hold certain bits of it |

I can assure you that I do Paul. I can not see how my last 3 saxo petrol caps are different to everyone elses but the key can be removed without resorting to your above described method.

Okay, all I can think is we must be doing differnet things or maybe the cap design changed on some years perhaps.
