Silver desire 1.1 flattie (this is gonna be slow in a few ways)

Ok so ive been splattering a few posts here and there, its time to have my own thread on my own saxo, seing as work will be starting very soon (we hope)

so here's my girl Stella

and here is the list of things i want/have to do to her!

soon:
new brakes (hopefully upgrade them)
new ariel (knocked mine off washing it... not sure how to fit a new one or anything :S)
new door check straps (drivers side wont hold, think the passengers side is going)
Fix passenger side lock
new bootlid (get rid of that nasty dent)
new rear bumper
colour code centre console, air vents, guages etc.
new doorcards, re-trimmed with silver/silvery grey
new roof liner (currently cream) black with silver stripe, if possible.
new head unit
new parcel shelf (modified to hold mid range speakers)
2 subs with amp (custom enclosure)

If i can:
Alloys (slightly euro style hopefully, wouldnt mind some bbs)
Dropped 30-50 mm
debadge new bootlid
Remove all scratches (any ideas for the deeper ones, could never afford a respray)

basically, things will get done as i save the money to do them, most of the work will be done by me, so this will probably be a slow one... but the head unit is being done tomorrow, and i might get the paint and start on my centre console while im at it :D

so, ideas? criticisms? reality checks?

I know, but seeing as some things are hopefully going to be getting done today, i thought i'd start a progress thread, instead of keep adding shit to the one in the newbies forum :homme:

Prickle 28th July 2011 12:52

Oh yeah, didnt relise it was in that section. :homme:

Damask 29th July 2011 18:34

ok, so i got the centre consold sprayed yesterday, but the laquer dripped a bit, so im just rubbing it down and doing it again tonight :)

Toz 1st August 2011 13:22

Good job on the centre piece :)

Damask 1st August 2011 23:01

nah its got a few bits where the paints too thick, the heater controls leave a mark when turned all the way left :/ but ive got my speakers and vents done and fitted now, pics up soon :)

Saxologist 2nd August 2011 13:18

Well nice rear lights mate :y:

Saxologist 2nd August 2011 13:23

All your targets seem well in reach, but:

Lower about 60mm
T-cut or paint badges black= nicer then removing them
Parcel shelf= Leave standard you dont need 6x9's
Upgrade your comps first
Aerial screws in, use so pliers if its stuck inside
Change rear lights back to standard/ smoked
Fit VTR alloys
De-wiper
Remove stickers from rear glass
Mesh grill
Spray inserts of headlights or fit angels

-Done

I want to keep it pretty much pure silver, sounds odd, i know, but i want to hilight interior parts silver (pics to come soon of the progress), keep the back lights, or maybe get some clear standards, wither keep the badges, smooth them, or go completely silver. i also want to mesh the grill and front bumper, either chrome or sprayed silver. i guess you'll see ;) also want euro style deep dish alloys :)
i know its not to the taste of alot of forum users, and no disrespect, i love almost all of the cars i see on here, im just going for something a little different :)

Damask 3rd August 2011 13:59

Ok, interior work so far.... heater surrounds, speakers and centre piece are sprayed an in, no dramas with the other parts thank god :) does anyone know how to remove the rear speaker bits? the ones next to the back seet, i had a look and something tells me theyre just fake :L
still trying to find a suitable grey/solver fabric to retrim my door cards with...
anyway, PICTURES (although youve all seen it before)

no headunit yet, Myles is being a pain :L

yes it needs hoovering, and a good clean, but for how dusty it is round here, its hardly worth it until my new boot comes and i wanna flaunt it a bit :)

annnnnd a cheeky lil picture throguh the window... which needs cleaning.....and has a tractor in it.....

robbevo 4th August 2011 02:35

Get some new pics up, looking good so far

Rob

Damask 4th August 2011 09:11

i need a better camera befire i try to get flashy with it ;)

Damask 10th August 2011 11:27

so.... we were coming back from the pub, decided to do some asw pics.... on the girlfriends camera.

white guages and new tailgate coming today, ill nick the camera to get some pics up :)

shell-vt 10th August 2011 11:32

oh no lexarse lights....

Damask 10th August 2011 11:46

yesyes noone likes them ;) im thinking about getting standards and smoking the fron lights, but i still like the idea of keeping it silver colour coded

Damask 25th August 2011 01:25

ok, now not many of you will know this, but the tailgate i bought off of gaz got fucked over by the delivery guys (i can put pics up if you all wanna be heart broken) so im basicallyt going to try fixing it up, smoothing it, getting it sprayed, then put it on after, seeing as i cant find a replacement just yet and the delivery company is full of cunts...

since updating, i have got the new headunit in and given it a good wax, but it will be clayed soon :)

anyway, other things to come are going to be some new alloys im hopefully getting tomorrow and will be refurbing metalic grey (a dark shade like gunetal hopefully), smoked rear and front lights on sunday (ideally wanted tinted jewels, but ill get around to that) and when i can actually get off my arse to sort it out, new brakes and dials.

still thinking of lowering it, but dont see many pictures of lowered flat arches? i dont want the back wheels to be in the arch, i dont want the masive gap at the front, and i dont want it nosedived... so whats the best drop i can do do you guys think?

just to re-iterate for you guys, LEXARSE LIGHTS ARE GOING. not sure if im going to be selling them to anyone around here, or if ill just think of some inventive way of destroying them and film it for your pleasure ;)

azzer1987 25th August 2011 01:32

i like mine led lexus lights i didnt want the smoked ones i had on cause everyone has them lol :)

i dont think ive actually looked at the led ones? tbh i like the whole silver on silver, but after looking around, it just doesnt work for me. ideally i'd like clear jewells with one half tinted almost pure black and a silver strip along the top :)
its funny, lexus lights look great on an is300.... why not my sax ;)

azzer1987 25th August 2011 01:46

lol my sax is white and the led ones mega bright and look mint tbh but jewels look sweet on sax to i just dont like smoked ones much as so many have them its commen :)

mward 26th August 2011 17:55

i have a very simular car and i am doing very much the same but i am going to tint the lights maye you could do that.

Damask 26th August 2011 20:25

picked up some alloys yesterday, need a tire for one of them, and a good refurb, but should look pretty sweet, just wondering to go black, graphite grey, or silver :/

was this hard to get out because i want to do this.

Damask 28th August 2011 00:31

nah, the plugs are colour coded, all the black bits come off apart from the ciggy lighter, theres a guide in the how to threads, need a premium membership though :) its not hard to work out.
just make sure you leave it a good day or so before putting it back in, i fucked it up twice being impatient :)

trex3491 21st October 2011 09:35

Your desire is looking smart, i also piced up a silver desire on Monday :) :)
VTR alloys should be here by next week and also going down the same route with the interior trim, will start a progress thread in the next week.
Will keep following!

tomnelson 21st October 2011 09:54

if you wana keep silver then do front headlight inserts silver rather than chrome. get some alloys any are better than none. lower it aswell,

Damask 25th October 2011 12:47

alright, put the two alloys ive refurbed on just to check fitment and make sure everythings all goooooood, heres the pictures ;)

next steps are to get rid of the lexus lights for tinted rear jewels, get some smoked headlights and foglights (yes, you lot bloody convinced me) and all importantly, get this thing lowered :)

Damask 25th October 2011 22:48

it pulls very very gentlyto the left when going over 60... reckon it will be fixed when i ge tthe rears on?

Damask 28th November 2011 01:25

well.... heres how my poor stella is looking right now...

Now, i dont know how many of you saw the thread saying i crashed. so to sum it up, it was dark, damp, and id just missed a turning. i was more focused on turning around than the road ahead, breaked for a corner, changed to 4th, weas going about 40-45 at the most when i realised it was alot sharper than i thought, and the car went straight off, towards a tree, and i was only just able to get it to land sideways on the verge of a ditch. (waits for comments calling me a twat etc... i know, and believe me, ive learned from it!)

So anyway, ive measured the chassis between the legs from the back, centre and front, as well as under and over the legs at the front, and havent found anything that suggests its twisted or bent. The only way ill know for SURE is when i get the new crossmember in, and take it for a drive.

Also, the lambda sensor in the exhause was pulled out, but took some of the exhaust around it out too. Luckily, i can weld, so this is getting fixed tomorrow, and the crossmember next weekend.
Up to yet, the crossmember and spot weld drill bit have cost me £22, and all i have left to buy is a new fan and bumper.

The good news however, is that if it all works out well, i can get new gear linkages (mine has excessive play when in gear, not bad enough to really worry about, but worth fixing while its off the road) and when i get the new bumper sprayed, unless i find one in my colour code, then i can get the other bits that annoy me fixed too.

Plans after this, are lowering, smoked lights (might go for clear jewelleds now), smooth boot, and eventually some better alloys.

Still have some ideas, but theyre going to cost quite alot and i just dont have the time or money yet!

Cam 28th November 2011 01:29

Ohh not good! Glad to see your sorting it out

Damask 28th November 2011 01:50

Cheers cam! yeah its not too hard a job, just taken me ages to get pictures! (believe it or not i left my phone where i crashed after using it as a torch...)
Im just getting photoshop up and running again, when ive got the hang of it, i may attempt a look at what i want it to end up like!

GTuff 28th November 2011 02:14

its easily done mate in saxos i did the same thing

Lewis 28th November 2011 12:43

Used to have one of these, looked literally exactly the same.

Gets better towards the end: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=267465

jeffchiz 28th November 2011 13:14

hey mate, ive got some mk1 standard rear lights that you can have for £20 if you wanted to get rid of the lexus lights, im back home this weekend from uni as well let me know if your interested, i also have vtr alloys for sale but im guessing you've already got some alloys lol

Damask 28th November 2011 13:25

yeah im not to keen on the vtr's mate! How good are the rears? im off to the scrappy today to see if i can pick up a bumper cheap, but im definately interested mate... ill pm you tonight and we'll sort something out :)

jeffchiz 28th November 2011 13:54

from what i remember they are perfect condition ill have a look late for you :y: also have a mk2 spoiler ;)

Damask 29th November 2011 14:02

Ive got a spoiler already mate, im getting the bootlid its on fixed and smoothed :)

Went to the scrappys today, found a posi blue one that had a decent front bumper i could spray and use. Asked the bloke how much, he says 'can you take it off?' i said sure, piece of piss, so he goes 'well then get it off and any other parts you want, ill make sure you get a decent price on it.

So there i am ripping this front bumper off, took the fan housing and lights off too but left the lights in the car, then went back for a price. Different bloke comes out and goes
'£40 for the both mate, and £80 if you chuck the lights in'
'fuck that mate, i already need to sand out the scuffs in this, get it resprayed and fit the lot of it to mine'
'well the bumpers are normally £40 alone'
'and ive just spent the last half hour ripping this shit off there for you'
'£40 mate, youve took it off now'
'well you can keep it for that, ill give you £60 with the lights, or you can go put it all back yourself'
'fine'

Fuck him, irish cunt, the bumper would have needed filling and reshaping for the scuff it had in it, and you can pick them up for £20 off here anyway, and i know a few scrappys down south that i'd probably pick one up for free if i can get down there.

Walked out, mum just goes 'no good? so we've wasted our time?'
i get in the car and just go 'nah, pockets aint empty cuz' (she didnt get the quote)

So for half an hour and an argument in a scrappys, i got all the screws and bolts i need to fit another one back on, a saxo owners manual, and a fuse box cover for the inside that i've needed for a while... not so bad then :L

Oh, went into the one further down, guy in there seamed a decent enough bloke, wanted £50 for a decent bumper, fan and rad if i found one, but they only had a silver vtr that was the OTHER silver, so the fan was no good, the rad may have been alright but i didnt bother, and i figured the bumper would look out of place... can always go back though :)

jeffchiz 29th November 2011 15:41

haha im guessing you went to grantham scrapyards?? im guessing you went to traynors from the irish cunt comment lol and yea the guy at the other scrapyard is much nicer

Damask 29th November 2011 23:16

yeah it was traynors, dont get me wrong, ive been doing scrap myself most of my life, i know they like to earn the extra money and tbh, if it was a decent bumper, i wouldnt mind so much, but it was scratched to shit!

Clarks had a silver vtr with a mint bumper, but it was the wrong shade (not a big deal)... but i thought id leave it because without the arches, itd look silly.

Then, got home. ebay. Brand new 1.1 front bumper, primered, from a citroen dealership selling old stock, £25. Bang tidy.
