My VTR Progress thread

OK, i haven't ever got round to posting a proper progress thread, just posted photos willy nilly, But ive thrown a sickie today so i guess i have the time :D

Ok so i found the car on Autotrader after searching for a few weeks for the right one. I travelled down to Newcastle (Whitley Bay) to see it, haggled with the guy for a week and went back down on the saturday, to pick it up.

I then ordered a set of Rear smoked lights

I decided then to go for a black/red theme. With smoked lights all round. Lowered 35mm on black VTS wheels.

In June, i was leaving work on a very busy road, where traffic had stopped to allow me to exit a junction, at the same time a woman had decided to overtake all the stationary cars to turn right at the bottom of the road, she hit me on the o/s/f

This damaged:

The o/s/f Wing
The o/s/f H/Light
O/s/f Fog Light
Bumper
bonnet
and the splitter between the h/light and the bumper.

Amazingly the arch of thre bodykit was fine.

It took two months for the insurers to sort evrything out and i got 3 grand for the car as an economical write-off. but i got to keep the car! a result!

I decided to fix it myself and stripped it myself at work,

then passed it with all the new parts to a mate of mine who did all the fitting and painting for me.

I spent 700 quid getting the car fixed, which was excellent compared to the 2500 bodyshops had been quoting.

I then purchased a stainless steel exhaust system and a pipercross induction kit. It is much louder than i'd like, but i dont mind too much!

Then at the same time i crashed my Saxo, My best mate crashed his 106 GTi
Only his was much worse, due to a drifting collision with a tree, his car was now shaped like a banana, luckily, he had just purchased a set of performance brake pads and discs. He fitted the fronts the day he crashed but the rears were never fitted, i picked up both for a bargain price of a hundred quid! These are still to be fitted.

And today, the car looks like this!

This is where the impact had been, it now looks spot on!

It is currently very very dirty as i had it down a country road, and its been very wet recently, but as soon as i get back to work it will have a proper clen, the valeters at my work supaguard it for me every few months so its really easy to clean and comes up all shiny :D

For a while i though about getting rid of it, but i really like the car and my bird would kill me if i sold it so soon.
What i've done so far:
Changed rear lights to smoked, changed back to standard

Fitted 10 inch xplod subwoofer

fitted xplod 3-way 6X9's

Fitted Full stainless exhaust including de-cat pipe

removed door pins

fitted induction kit

fitted new JVC head unit

So for the moment my future plans include

Lowering (possible 55mm slam) maybe 35mm

Maybe re-fit the smoked lights, i actually really like the standard ones now so im not sure.

Colour coding interior bits wicked red

I'd like to change the headlights but im not so sure now.

De-lock the doors.

Actually fit the brakes.

Possibly a half leather 106 Gti Interior

And a set of deep dish alloy wheels, not yet seen a set of wheels i really like.

Sorry about photo sizes guys, i'm not actually sure how to re-size them or anything and i'm sorry if you've read something similar that i've posted in the past! :fcuk:

What you guys think?

Bakes_vtr 30th October 2006 18:09

looks good dude, a bit standard for my liking though

i think some smoked headlights would look awesome in my opinion and get it lowered. thats where i would start

Didz 30th October 2006 18:14

Predator_R32 30th October 2006 18:18

BruceybabyVTR 30th October 2006 18:20

Why try and make your car look like someone else's. Aye. they both look good, but why not try and do something different?
That's not a dig by the way, it's a general pondering.:hijack:

Lethal choice!

BruceybabyVTR 2nd November 2006 12:56

why is that lethal? aren't you kinda contradicting yourself in one post?
you "generally ponder" AL fo doijng the black red theme then dig me for deciding against it?

Mcsvtr 2nd November 2006 13:14

Good repair job, coming along nicely

tomo_202 2nd November 2006 14:29

Bruce Lad, you drive a haaaard bargin ;) lol

Looking good!

BruceybabyVTR 3rd November 2006 19:37

Interior

I bought a Dimma Grille off ebay, and along with the help of some guys on here, i have been painting that, but i am really taking my time with it because i want it to be as perfect as i can get it, and hopefully match the rest of the car!!!!

While i had the paint, i decided to remove centre console bit and those heater grilles on either side, I'm very pleased with the results so far, and have just fitted it, have taken some pictures but it'll look better once i've cleaned it all up and its actually day light.

After Removing the trims and all those associated switches, The fan control switch was a CUNT!

First coat of paint

the Centre Console, I love the way this looks

What do you guys think??

I can't wait till the Dimma Grille is finished! Needs a bit of work to go but should only be a couple of days!

Next Up:

Dimma Grille
Smoked Front Lights
Lowering
Possible Headlight eyebrows (depending on how they look!):homo:

Predator_R32 3rd November 2006 21:48

is it me or does the centre console look like it aint finished, theres paint missing from round the headunit???

I see wot u mean mate, that must just be the flash glaring off the head unit cos its all painted fine! Everyone seems to love it so far! Just gave the car a massive clean today, all polished, protected and ready for winter. Muight remove the lights tonight and spray the inserts black so it gives that smoked effect

BruceybabyVTR 22nd January 2007 19:16

Update 22/1/2007

:gives: First update of the year!!!!! :gives:

Ok so shortly after my last post i Diy smoked the headlights, Very pleased with the results :homme:

Also painted and fitted my Dimma Grille! Quite likeing the front end now, will have to smoke the fogs though to complete it!!

so i washed her today for the first time since my last post, The results are as follows!!!

As you can see, it's still standard at the back!!!! I was toying with the idea of leaving the lights standard as i do like them like that, but with the front lights painted, i think smoked would look better

On a more depressing note, Some little fucker turned the heat right up on the jet wash at work so i ended up with this!!

:boxing:

All these polish valeters :wall:

Time to paint them black me thinks!!!! :clapping:

This is with smoked lights, so i think with painted badges it'll look pretty good ??????

I have a lot of plans for my baby now this year, I've almost halfed my insurance premium so that is helping my monthly outgoings!!

next up:

Lowering -50mm (would prefer -40mm spring) getting the kit for £100 off my mate who's never used it, plus the guy at the shitroen dealer up the road will do the torsion bar for 60 bucks!!!!!

Wheels- Still in two minds about this, the one thing the rozzers notice apart from a screaming exhaust is your wheels, only have two wheels in mind, S wheels or a set of rare after market Kosei Racing wheels, these are the only aftermarket wheels i really like but cannot see them on any site, anywhere!!!

And they look a little like this :

I think they are the absolute sex, My mate had them on his 11 turbo, which was subsequently prohibited by the British transport police, so he sold them to another guy at my work who had them on his wee Micra :homme: which was stolen, returned and now they are gathering dust till i can get the money to buy them!!!!

Which leads me tooooo :

:panic: Cashflow crisis :panic:

Fecking skint from christmas, spent far too much money and its gonna take about 3 months to sort it :( taking 5 days a month off work hasn't helped either :n:

So time to knuckle down and take all the hours god sends and no more drink :drink: :broken:

and to top it all off, The R now need the following:

Investigation of non operating washer jets, most likely a fecked bottle from where some tart crashed into me.

Sort the extremely annoying noise from the de-cat exhaust pipe rubbing the heat shield or sumit.

Gotta lube the gear linkage its getting really stiff

Gotta service her

Check the tracking and wheels balance she's starting to judder at high speeds

New tyre needed for both the O/S/F (currently borrowing my mates wheel!) and for the spare!

and there is Cv grease behind the wheel!!! :ill: im sure u can only get driveshafts and not just a joint

So hopefully. By March/ april, we will be in full flow and big things will hopefully be happening

I love saxos

BruceybabyVTR 22nd January 2007 19:26

ps, ne1 know where i can get these clips? i burst it putting the light back in

Richie2104VTR 22nd January 2007 20:13

Looks very nice, but not sure on those wheels!

BruceybabyVTR 22nd January 2007 20:31

Stevey - Will get a vid, very loud mate, Not an OMP one though, Ashley, Ebay Jobbay! Very cheap, very loud at full throttle but not too bad at idle! Suspect its mild steel though!!

Rushy - Cheers mate, i like em cos they're different, was thinking, spray them a similar colour to your superlegs in the middle pat and leave the lip the sort of chromey colour it is.........

when did you get the car was it foxhunters or ramside if was 5 - 6 month ago i was going to buy a red vtr from there! he had a few in mainly furios, one i sat in had 43k miles i think it was! might been 63k sure was 43k like, could been your car lol

BruceybabyVTR 22nd January 2007 20:40

nah mate was like end of march beginnin of april 06. Was a silver one there as well but he wanted about 4 grand and it had done about a thousand miles less than the red one! was a good boy though, talked 250 off the price,

It was this or one for 2500 v plate on the other coast, this one is in mint condition bar the niggles that have just come up so im chuffed :)

Where did u get the gold one? nice car mate!

Steve 22nd January 2007 21:04

private it may have been that time, it was way before i had a job, nd there was a silver one in, silver furio and a red furio. mines got its problems wish had shopped around more instead of rushing into it. got to fix my leak which think may be solved now, new raditor, new driveshaft needs fitting, then new wing on. then its get it lowered getting grill c/c'd when getting the wing done, black or gray alloys then i dont know what after that.....

BruceybabyVTR 22nd January 2007 21:08

My mate with the GTi-6 in that pic used to have a gold one, was very nice. I waited a while to find the right one, think i was pretty luvcky wwith this cos ive seen a few dogs since and this was the first one i actually decided to view, bar a blue one i seen beforehand! how much u lowering mate?

Steve 22nd January 2007 21:12

40 all round! hope looks good the gold nd black!

BruceybabyVTR 22nd January 2007 21:28

Yeh it always does!!! I rly wanna go 40 now, just seen stevenet15's S on std rims -40, looks the nuts!!

Hopcraft 22nd January 2007 22:30

should definally go down 50, looks great !

liking the smoked lights,

personaly id go for vts rims rather than those, but you seem to like them, so thAats what counts

BruceybabyVTR 23rd January 2007 00:04

yeah well i think they are nice but not sure if i will go that route yet, like i say, got a few things to sort first of all, including ca$hflow!!!!

Not gonna get S rims, if i kept them silver it wud basically be yatesy's car or twenty other people on here, if i paint em black its like landy's so.......

i think aftermarket is the way, but wheels are the last thing on my mind ATM i'll cross that bridge when i come to it :fcuk:

Cheers for all the comments guys :)

Simon 23rd January 2007 21:03

Think you should go for black badges, just used Tcut on mine to thake the silver off

Dan 23rd January 2007 21:34

Some nice updates mate.

foxervts 24th January 2007 19:53

would look nice with chrome switches an that but lookin well m8

Steve 29th January 2007 21:06

you still got that ashley exhaust system? any more pics of it on the car or a video? what is the fitment like? i had an om one for a vts just nearly didnt fit, came out at an angle and looked the dogs......

BruceybabyVTR 3rd February 2007 01:36

Will get vids at some point, it sounds the tits when driven hard, not too sure at low revs :( bit too noisy but cant have it my way all the time!

Mines does sit at a slight angle, but the brackets on the rear box are adjustable so i'll sort it eventually, too lazy at the moment! U got the OMP one on now then?
