Switch to NEW MR Dedicated Server - opinions?

Well,

Many of you may not have noticed, but last night we switched servers...

The true worth of the new server is yet to be exploited, but I was wondering if any of you had any comments or had experienced any issues?

No news is good news??? But sometimes its good to get a little feedback ;)

We always strive to ensure that your enjoyment of Saxperience is as trouble free as possible, and like most people we don't want to be caught without enough power to get us out of trouble... so we're going to upgrade to a significantly more powerful server!

Inevitably, this means that there will be some downtime while the migration takes place.

The Saxperience Web site will be offline after 1am on Monday 21st May 2007.

Any downtime will be kept to a minimum and should hopefully be no more than a couple of hours (and you'll all be in bed probably anyway) ;)

Any questions or concerns please locate your friendly local moderator.

See if you get that over the next few days... server has only been online since about 4am and NO server lag has occurred today.

Any page not display errors we need an exact date/time, isp etc... as detailed in the Bugs forum many times - I've just been through the server logs for your access and can't find a single error (suspect a connectivity/timeout problem).

As for peak load - the performance of this new server is scary. I've never seen a server do so much with such little effort. The performance graphs look like it's switched off lol.

Ste 21st May 2007 20:44

Ive not had any hitches and ive had a good browse around....

No lag, no double posting pauses,

S'All Guuuud

BENSAX3 21st May 2007 20:48

i have just had to refresh the page as its is soooooo slow, probs just my internet

Scattle 21st May 2007 20:51

Quicker than it usually has been before which is a good thing.

al_VTR 21st May 2007 20:52

Seems fine to me, i can't comment on speed as much as others because i'm still on prehistorice broadband speed at home in the sticks.

I'm sure the new server will become more valuable when the next upgrade is put into place

Harv 21st May 2007 21:05

seems good to me Simo. Only thing i would say is that my browser sometimes got stuck today trying to refresh the forum page. But that could just be my internet being gay

AM4R 21st May 2007 21:07

It feels alot faster for some reason, is this the server?

What do you mean by crashed???

Ive had a DNS error this evening, but could be simply poor dns propogation via nt-hell. (as usual)

Just saying the site has crashed doesnt proivide any meaningful information :err:

MaRiO89 22nd May 2007 01:57

Yeah thats what i had a DNS error..

sorry simo.

had the site is not available message a fair few times tbh.. prob minimal less than the older server.

had another couple of occasions when posts have taken ages to post.

im not being pedantic btw just trying to help you out with feedback

vtrchris64 22nd May 2007 02:09

might just be me but it seems a bit slow, when pages are loading it pauses on the blue sax-p background for a while and sometimes goes white :panic:

Barry123 22nd May 2007 03:44

not trying to bite the placebo pill here. but actually ive noticed a considerable difference.

I always thought my uni internet connection was a bag of bollocks when it came to saxp but since the migration it does seem noticeably quicker... not in terms of milliseconds but in significant quantities.

Again hats off to you guys behind the scenes. I wish every club had admins that were as dedicated to progressing the site further as you lot were :y:

Mark51 22nd May 2007 07:02

it doesnt seem any different at home. however, the computers at work are sh*te and yesterday the site was really slow but today its alot alot alot better.
nice one!

Ryan 22nd May 2007 07:54

quoting seemes to be the more noticable cause of, none page lading, or page freeze.

All feedback is used constructively - we are trying to iron out any little bugs too, so dont worry.. Im not getting stroppy :P

Its just hard to pinpoint an error, when no event is logged in the error logs, indicating that the problem is client side.

With your help little niggles will be found and purged though - so keep on pointing things out :A:
