Mechanic costs

What do you guys think it should cost to have front and rear, discs and pads fitted?
I have already bought the kit.

A Garage quoted 170 which i thought was a bit steep as i paid less than that for all the parts.

Thoughts please guys?

tell them to jog on, do it yourself mate it's actually a piece of piss to do, if you really can't do it, the max you should get charged is £20

Pat_Vts 27th February 2008 12:34

i got it done free;)

a mate of a mate is asking for 80 but thats cos he found out how much the garage quoted.
Thinking of doing it myself but dont wanna mess it up

josh1989 27th February 2008 12:36

the only thing that might raise your cost is if the current disks and the caliper bolts/nuts/screws whatever are seized,

allyVTS 27th February 2008 12:36

Yup do it yourself wont take long. If your not sure what your doing buy a hayanes manual. It will come in handy for other things too. Round here i'm sure its about £60 to get it done at a garage.

it couldn't be simpler mate, jack it up, off with the wheel, off with the caliper, off with the disk, on with the new disks, on with the new pads in the caliper, put caliper back on job's a gudden

5AMBO 27th February 2008 12:38

how long do you think it would take me, using a haynes manual and with little or no knowlege.lol

5AMBO 27th February 2008 12:38

maybe ill give it a go then. what tools do i need?

josh1989 27th February 2008 12:38

most difficult one i've ever done is my old l reg corsa cos the caliper was on with alan key bolts that were seized and i couldn't get any purchase on the alan key handle

RedB 27th February 2008 12:39

About an hour or so dude...

Haynes manual will come in useful for loads of things for you :y:

5AMBO 27th February 2008 12:46

Though i have just had my car lowered 50mm so not sure if ill get a jack under it

Hanuman 27th February 2008 12:58

no more than 2hrs labour so no more than £120 unless its a crap p takin garage, should be looking at £85 i rekon

steve_335 27th February 2008 14:12

i reckon my boss would charge £80 at most, just for labour. SOme places i seen charge £50-60 per hour for labour.

b0t13 27th February 2008 14:24

i wouldnt pay anymore than £30 to have brakes fitted tbh.. garages rip people off big time..

5AMBO 27th February 2008 19:11

they are charging 55pound per hour and adding brake fluid and sundries etc whatever that is.
Think im gonna have to try fitting them myself cos all places i asked are asking more than i rly got to spend. i would be happy to pay up to 80 but places i asked want over 100
