Loose Wheel

done a thread before on my car knocking when turning right and going over bumpy surfaces. sounds like under my feet but have checked ARB wishbones etc and no play...
HOWEVER
...when car was jacked up today realised my front right wheel there is a slight bit of play in it (if you push and pull you can move it) am i right in thinking i may have found my problem. does it sound like the right side etc? could be an explanation?? anyone had this problem?? thanks
chris

I had this problem. Mine was because my main bushes on the rear axle went which made the wheel move about and could be pulled easily.

mcchriswood 20th April 2008 01:40

what sound does it cause then?? my knock sounds like under the footwell though sounds like a metal clunk??

LukeVTR 20th April 2008 01:58

My rear axle was completely messed up, had it changed today but it made a banging noise when i went over a pot hole....sounded like metal banging. It might be something else but if your wheel is moving then im guessing it maybe a bearing or bush

Is there play in the wheel when you hold the wheel at the top and bottom and try to rock it? (This would be wheel bearing). Is there play in the wheel when you hold it at the side and try to rock it? (Could be lower ball joint, track rod end etc).

^^ as lozza has said but also check the bushes. have had the car over a pit and swung on the wishbone to see if it moves. i jacked mine up and couldnt feel any play in it but when the car was on the floor and over a pit i could move the wishbone abnd it was loose in the foot well

mcchriswood 20th April 2008 14:06

so i should check it how??

Predator_R32 20th April 2008 14:10

get it jacked up again on a stand and get someone to rock the wheel and you look were its got play :y:

Mochachino 20th April 2008 14:27

mines got play in it, and i was told it were wheel bearings, and it happens on 3 of my wheels :|

he asked when does the knocking happen, and i said when i turn left, and the reason it knocks is becouse u got the weight off the left wheels so have more free movement. He then said is it both your left ones that feel loose?

so i check and it was. Maybe worth trying?

wheel bearings mate

mine went yesterday

mcchriswood 20th April 2008 16:09

ooo could be :)

mcchriswood 20th April 2008 16:09

would i feel it under my feet then??

Mochachino 20th April 2008 23:31

possible if theyre completly gone, get a grip of the wheel from behind it at the topwith your hands and pull the wheel, and see how it feels?

mcchriswood 21st April 2008 08:00

theres play in it and can hear a slight knock from somewhere?? thats without jacking it up

Ge0_Ge 21st April 2008 14:36

sounds similar to mine, but mines passenger side..more thn likley bearings buddy.

mcchriswood 21st April 2008 19:21

i can definately feel it under my feet though?? and it hap;pens over bumpy surfaces and on right turns mainly ?? when car was on ramps at a garage they was pushing and pulling wishbone and saying its solid and told me there was obv no problem?? but trust me there is and it occurs all the time and its LOUD

andybmw 21st April 2008 19:28

spin the wheel round by hand and hold the spring and see if you have vibartions going up the spring, in you do its a wheel bearing

Brigbeale 21st April 2008 19:34

It'll be your wheel bearing(s) on the front.
My Picasso does it on left hand front.
Been meaning to get it fixed but keep putting it off cos of other jobs on the go.
