Vtr for about £1200

im looking for a new car but i am wondering whether to get a vtr as i could get one and its already thrashed which is no good. what sort of condition vtr could i get for that? or any other ideas for cars for that price, however i am 17 so nothing over 1.6

stompin-sarah 4th September 2008 23:01

y dont ya get a west coast?? they are only 1.4 engines!

ive just bought a mango colour one!!!!

Petey1991 4th September 2008 23:06

ye the mango westcoast does look the best saxo imo but its not as fast but i may consider it.

Matt67 4th September 2008 23:08

If you buy the thrashed VTR your going to have problems with it, and probably cost you a fortune to maintain, hardly worth it. Like the guys above said Furio/1.1 just for the first year so the insurance isn't to bad?

stompin-sarah 4th September 2008 23:11

yeah i agree with matt.....even if it just for yr 1st year of drivin so the insurance isnt so high!

also westcoast cheaper on tax!!!!!!

Petey1991 4th September 2008 23:11

i got a 1.3 16v micra at the moment, i dont really want to go slower, but is it possible to get a good condition vtr for about £1200.

craig180 4th September 2008 23:13

Think about running costs, insurance and your ability to drive a "quick" car then go and buy a 1.1 or a westy. Serious

I had a 1.4 sx for my 1st 3months then a vtr....needless to say i crashed it....so it is true, vtrs are to fast for a new driver (as much as i hate to admit it lol) but ive been driving a year now and am picking a new one up on sat (on in my avatar), good luck on what ever you get mate :y:

Petey1991 4th September 2008 23:18

ye lol i crashed my micra as i used to jus thrash it around but ive matured since then and would just like a nice car that can be fast when it needs to be, not a question of whether i can handle one, its just can you get a vtr in good condition for about £1200

Have a good ol' gander at my Thread below!
Bought a VTR for my First Car and yeah needs stuff done to it but rather have that than a 1.1 Haaa'

onzakieron 4th September 2008 23:28

I got a VTR for 2k as my first car, haven't crashed yet and don't plan on it, although I can kind of tell when to and when not to drive like a prick.

I'd say, don't bother, you can buy a VTR for 1200quid but if your on a budget that small then like Saxo180 said, petrol, insurance, tax and of course, VTR thrash replacement parts, I doubt you can afford.

All in with insurance etc at £100 a month I spend £400 a month running my car, yes I do drive alot but heck, that's alot of cash JUST for a car.

Vtr's aren't 'too' fast for a new driver, you crashed it because you drove it like a prick presumeably and couldn't handle it. That's your fault, not the cars. Drive it sensible and like any car, you won't have any problems keeping it on the road.

But judging by you ragging around a Micra and crashing that, chances are you might do the same with an R? Either way, for £1200 - I doubt you'll get an R with decent mileage which hasn't been thrashed.

My two cents :)

i bought my mk1 vtr with 60k on the clock for 1200, it is fairly common to find one around 1600 just need to haggle it lower, mine hasnt broke or crashed yet, insurance is alot so u need to look into it, as said furios/westcoats are more insurance friendly

blackvtrt 5th September 2008 12:09

loads of mk1 vtr's around for penuts knowhere days, have over 100k on though, but if you look about i've seen 80k ones go with fsh for around £1k, id say with your budget its easy to find a tidy one, just be patient and dont jump at the 1st one you see. Also try to look for one as close to standard as possible.

Recovery 5th September 2008 12:16

i started off with a furio, look exactly the same as a vtr too, get a nice set of vtr wheels or vts wheels on it, will look really good imo, cheaper insurance and tax :D

OLLYVTS 5th September 2008 12:39

The answer is yes you could get a good vtr for around 1200 if you look around abit.Good luck finding a nice one.

WelshyUK 5th September 2008 12:47

There is a black mk1 vtr in a garage I had a look at, it was mint 60,000 on the clock fsh going for £1200, can't remeber the garage name but it's on the Newport Pagnell road in Northampton, so not too far from you. As said though you can get one for the money but have a good look around!!
