vts into 106 1.1 mpi???
i have a 106 1.1 mpi and i have brought a saxo vts. im think of putting the vts engine into the 106. the 106 is a 2000 reg an the vts is a 1998. is this going to work or should i stop before i start doing. i will strip the vts to use all the parts on the 106 (engine, shocks, brakes, rear beam etc). the saxo is a one pin ecu and the 106 is a 3 pin. can someone help me?? :panic:
|
anyone??
|
Why not just drive the VTS and save all the effort and trouble?
|
the vts body has seen better days plus it doesnt have any mot or tax lol. i only payed 200 for the vts. i was going to drive it but i think it needs lots to put it through a mot. the 106 is really tidy and i want to make it into a sleeper.
|
It is going to be one Mammoth task mate, Trust. The chasis wont even support the engine weight i dont think... The strain on the fittings and bolts etc. Unless you use EVERYTHING from the VTS on the 1.1 Except for The chasis housing :boxing:
|
i will use everything from the vts as a donor car. i,ve done conversion before but not on a french car lol. if i start i wont let it beat me and give up lol
|
If the VTS will struggle to pass an MOT then those parts can't be transferred so you will end up having to buy them again anyway.
You are going to need to use most of the parts from the VTS I believe due to differences in the engine and the power. You wouldn't want 1.1 drum brakes stopping 120bhp of car... |
Rear brakes do fuck all braking, they just steady the car. Iirc jpsaxo, willsy and raunchez all had drums on there itb'd 16v's.
I've never done it but I understand the conversion is fairly straight forward, willsy had a 16v in his 1.0 saxo seen a few 1.1's and diesela converted too. You will need to weld the ecu side engine mount from the vts into the 1.1 inner wing iirc, run a fuel return, Mabie change the fuel pump and I would fit the vts struts, arbs and brakes as there beefed up over the 1.1 The main issue i see is that you will really need to fit the vts interior loom too, which iirc means saxo dash and clocks too, you'll also need to have the ecu unlocked. I think fitting the saxo lockset will get round the unlocking but don't quote me on it. I'm aure someone more knowledgeable will come along soon, but it can be done, especially if you have a complete donor car in good enough condition |
Right heres what NEEDS changine to fit the engine in
cut the ecu side engine mount cradle off the vts and weld it in the 106 The motor will tben bolt in However yours will be harder The vts will have later tapered hubs so the struts will need swapping to suit the driveshafts The looms wont match and will need splicing The 1.1 wishbones are shite bin them the arb and fit the vts items Vts front brakes are a good idea Sounds simple but the loom wont be |
Forgot about shafts Alex good shout, will the intermediate bearing bolt up to the 1.1? Might need to drill and tap for that

swapping interior looms 106-saxo isnt as easy as that hed be best of splicing the mulyiplug imo |

Learn something new every day, useful info for me too As im helping a useless mate do a vtr into 1.1 106. Cheers.
|
i think im going to go ahead with it as i like a challenge lol. i think the end result will be well worth it :)
|
its not as complicated as its been made out in this thread
|
its not complicated no but the wiring can be a night mare

His wont be though
Hence he will either need a new loom ecu amd a lot of sensors or to splice his loom Theres about 5 different looms between the 106 and the saxo and even ones that look the sale sometimes dont line up on the connections yours may have been simple i know guys whove had 4 or 5 looms including custom ones and still had issues |
iv got a quiksilver engine in a 1.1 desire and that was just a straight fit. but idno man
