You'll hate me but...

Just got some 6 x 9's. I know i know

But i dont have much money to spend on ice so they'll do for now. Hoping for the components/amp setup later on.

However need a bit of help. How should i go about wiring these up?

I dont want my rear speakers running anymore so i was thinking i could unplug and extend the wire from those? Is this the easiest way?

Help please..

Ben_C 16th July 2007 14:19

yep that's the way to do it!

mattchewone 16th July 2007 14:22

Best way that how i have mine running  did have them running on the amp with my sub but got too much interference so i plugged them into the rear door speakers.

sampotter 16th July 2007 14:23

OK thanks for the help.
So i just take the rear door cards off, unlplug and extend?

mattchewone 16th July 2007 14:28

Yer is that simple.

I would say to get a bit of cheap but better quality wire and run that to them from the headunit though mate, the CAD value silver stuff on www.caraudiodirect.com at a quid a metre is what i used, much better than the crappy really thin standard wiring

betty02 16th July 2007 14:35

i rand extension cable to mine from backs and was all fine!

Predator_R32 16th July 2007 15:10

the positive is usually just a colour and the negative is the a colour with a black line running down them, make sure your get them right, they do work either way you wire them but wired up correctly means they will sound better at a higher volume

i still dont agree with 6x9s but still have to help :p

sampotter 16th July 2007 15:12

Thanks pred

Cheers for the help, i know how much you hate them. must have really forced yourself to comment :p Rep

I told my unbiased gf to listen to every speaker in Halfords on the display and she thought the 6x9's sounded by far the best speaker. They aren't all that bad if you aren't big on subs. Cars aren't condusive at all for HQ sound anyway so you might aswell borrow the black guy off the McD's advert.

reevesy_vtr 16th July 2007 21:38

but matt all the speakers in halfrouds are in box's so you get tricket. Sam you dont have to say dont hate me as its your car so you can do what you like to it. be a shepherd not a sheep.

VTR-Chris-VTR 16th July 2007 22:32

How come no one likes 6x9's then?

Yep i got mine running from wires at rear cards.......have got standard speakers running cos previous owner must of cut the wires and messed it all up :n:

Without talkin about the acoustics shizzle of 6 X 9s, they scream smash my back window in to the local chavs and emooooos

Predator_R32 17th July 2007 00:33

if your going to put speakers in the parcel shelf mount them underneath on a mdf shelf, use some speaker cloth over the holes on top then cover with acoustic carpet, at least that way people wont see them on view

sampotter 17th July 2007 15:48

Don't really get what you mean

But i would def prefer them out of view

More detail? Im in a dumb mood now im on break from college

Cheers

Predator_R32 17th July 2007 16:13

well if you go to auto acoustics you can buy stealth shelf kits

you can also buy the material

the speaker cloth stretches over the top of the hole and the acoustic carpet is there to trim it, the speaker cloth is just making sure the cloth doesnt sag into the hole, if they did sag then everyone would know you have speakers under there from the outside looking in if you catch my drift
