you cant be that narrowminded to say 'if you cant afford insurance on your own then take a bus'. Only a complete mug would do that 'just to be completely 100% safe. Put yourself in this scenario - 17, just passed your test, insurance is 4k on your own or 1500 say as a named driver. Lets be honest, you'd have to be a bit of a muppet to happily settle to take a bus
i dont think its as bad as people are making out to be a named driver for the first year or two tbh. seeing as how ridiculous insurance prices are becoming these days it seems like the only option people are going for. only problem with it is that usually you dont get a No claims bonus at the end of the year unless you can find a company which does offer the named driver NCB. i was a named driver in my first year, so was my brother. he had 3 claims and never had a problem with insurance. As they simply cant prove who drives the car more.
If you can get away with it then why not i'd say. saves you thousands, if it was so illegal then why would they still offer it, and also its wrong when people say 'your not insured'- so then what are you paying for then? thin air?
