ye they came on a few cars, ibiza's and the cordoba edition the most but im sure they came on another one too

Heres a few pics of what i got on today, boot popper FINALLY no more leaning into boot to open it lol. and a new rocker cover badge (thanks to wilsy :y:). brakes should have arrived but havnt :n: hopefully will be on for next tuesday. Then after that i dont think there will be many mods for a while just a lot of fixing things on the maintainance side of the car and a general tidying up of pervious mods, like getting the bumper right, re-doing boot handle etc, paint work, window tints & alot of work on the engine bay.
New Rocker Badge:

rocker cover badge looks good.
How does yout boot popper work then? whats it wired into??
its wired up to the rear wiper switch, de-wiperd so thought id just use the electrics that were already there instead of running some new lines to a button. seems to be working fine, its abit strange the solenoid though i think it may be abit faulty so its attached with velcro and using string to pull the catch up at the moment lol, ive got a feeling im going to have to fit anotehr one so didnt wona make brackets if i got one another size.

Heres a Picture of the new brakes, nothing special just standard vt brakes with mintex pads + disks. got the pads + discs for £35 new couldnt complain at that and calip[ers were £30. i mixed some high temp paint with some normal paint probs about 4 part high temp and 1 part normal so i could get the color close to the same as the car, hasnt peeled or flaked yet but will have to see over time. cant really tell the difference as i am still bedding them in, could do with a really good bleed to, i bled them but did a rushed job of it really. when they are bedded in ill use them propperly and see if the difference is big or not.

cheers, you should give spraying them yourself ago.
How did you get the vt* bumper to sit flush around the arch?
the square mounts that are on the ends of the bumper that are srcewed in were broke of on mine, so the bumper could be pushed in to the right shape then just tie wrapped it into place at the arch's, put the bolts in underneath and a few etra tiewraps to secure it were i could put them

3rd June 2009, 11:38
looking good mate some good progress good effort on spraying the bumper yourself hasn't turned out to bad just needs abit more shine to it, did you use rattle cans or a spray gun?
Tom5190
3rd June 2009, 13:15
cheers bud, i used rattle cans, really the finish its pretty poor just the pictures arnt showing it up which is why i havnt meshed it yet as after MOT next month im guna spend some money on going back over the car and tidying it up. first thing will be tog et the bumper done professionally.

Love the progress and my front bumper sits like that aswell, a bit low, im just gonna bolt mine up into the light compartment i thinks
Tom5190
5th June 2009, 00:18
ive sorted mine now it sits spot on..... how did you fix yours under the rad? with the bolts in the right place?
Tom5190
5th June 2009, 14:31
heres a quick shot of the bumper after ive sanded it down and t-cutted it and re-fitted it abit better, cant really tell the shine as the camera and light isnt very good but will get it washed with some pics as soon as the weather is decent. the reflection on it is really good after what ive done(cheers ne_jam), still needs polishing and waxing though. im happy with how the car looks now, i finally think it looks half decent!
Next mods are guna be either coilovers, or just some dampers and lower springs for the front to bring it down to 80, a transplant at some point and over the next 2-3 months just a general tidy up of previous mods, getting it pretty much perfect mechanically and some little things in and around the interior & engine bay so this thread may be abit lacking for abit but hopefully will be worth it when ive saved up.

u gettin vt rear bumper aswell as front?
Tom5190
5th June 2009, 15:18
not sure, after doing the front bumper i feel confident on doing some more body work, the boot handle was a disaster, thefront bumper not much better but ive learnt alot more about what needs to be done and how to do it and stuff..... ive been told a vt bumper wont fit on the back without arch's... bud id be up for the challange if i can get one pretty cheap.
Seen it outside college on tuesday i think , looks mint :y:
Quite like the splitter on the back too ;)
Tom5190

Take that rear splitter off and i think that'd look really smart for a flat arch :y:
Tom has that front bumper been done again?
Lets start this engine conversion mate.....I need something to do over the summer.....keep it looking exactly as it is.....sleeper FTW!

haha, i am determined to do it, i will most definatly try at the least, i havnt got a rear bumper to have a play about with yet though, i need to get my priorities sorted with it and make myself a list of what i want/need before i get a new engine. i think the engines the most important bit so unless i can get a bumper dirt cheap like the front one it wont be for a while.

cheers, i saw it on 2 mk1's its a copied idea not really original but i dont want to change it with a full vt kit.

ye plenty of people keep saying put the full vt kit on it but it not for me, i wona keep it flat arch, the plan always has been (and still is) to get myself a vts when i have the money so i wona keep this one flat. nah sadly im not goin.... i really wish i was but i only really heard about it a few weeks ago id never read into it and im uber skint at the moment so cant afford it really. i will most definatly be at trax in september though and hopefully the car will be at a good spec by then.
omg a flat arch thats actually looks alot nice than most saxos with the vt kit, congrats on that achievement mate

I was amazed when it not only passed but had no advisories either. £25 for MOT to from vauxhall with a fre 'health check' on the car cant be bad. over the moon with it ! also gotmy self a job, abit low pay atm but should be some more mod on the way in a few weeks.

Right so about a month ago now my bonnet decided to fly up whilst i was driving, luckily i managed to control the car and didnt crash. This put a set-back on plans to modify as its cost me around 300-400 to fix it, at the moment the car is almost finished. i was thinking about selling as soon as it was fixed which is why i didnt mention it on here lol, but now ive deffinatly decided to keep it. so whilst its been off the road ive been working on it. jobs done were:
New sump gasket
full service
replaced rear drum nipples
replaced handbrake cable
re-set tappets
fixed exhaust blowing
sorted out some loose wiring in engine bay
ditched the neverbeen sticker
New bonnet
New bonnet hinges
Re-alined front slam panel (this was all bent which was the reason the bumper didnt sir properlly when i fitted it a few weeks back)
Mods:
Black headlining
Black sun visors
Smoothed over ariel
Hopefully the car should be all sprayed up by the end of next week, ive been getting it done on the cheap so have had to wait as the guy doing it is doing it in his own time which is a massive help as otherwise it would of just been broke for parts.
So when the car is finally finished ive got to fork out another £600 for insurence in october.....nightmare:wall:
Plans before christmas:
Custom springs - 80mm drop
Decent set of front dampers
Front leon splitter
Guna ditch the ibiza splitter on rear
Finally damage pictures: (will upload the rest next week when its finished)

So i got my car back at the beginning of this week, its been off the road for over 2 months but im so so so glad ive got it back now. While it was of the road ive spent a fair bit of money on it mechanically so its running really well now. Ive gotta say that the body work has been done really really well too (Done at 'Carl Dodridge's' in marske for those who are close:y:). All together including the new bonnet, hinges & windscreen its cost me just over £500:
Roof welded, smoothed, and all paint work - £350
Bonnet - £100
Hinges £15
Windscren £50
So while i was getting the body work done i thought id also get the ariel smoothed over, i never liked it in the first place, also ive added my black headlining and sun visors.
The areas that have been painted are half of the roof, the wings and bonnet. i re-painted the front bumper and boot handle myself too. Today me & JAM (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228837)went to grab some snaps over at middlesbrough. took over 100 here is some of the better ones (check out jams thread for more of his car)

All thats left for the car now is to refit the front bumper as its not lined up correctly, i need some vtr/s wheel arch linings for the front and some mesh for the front bumper. i think sadly thats going to be the end of it after that as im sick of the small engine so ive been looking into some bigger cars for after my birthday in january.
20years old with 2 yrs driving 1yrs ncb has helped alot on some insurance quotes so i will have to see how much i can save, depending on what i save depends on the new car. possiblites are Xsara vts, Vectra GSI, Corsa C sri, Astra GSI and a few others. the xsara is the main aim i think though.

ye there quite quick, its the same engine but only a 5 speed box. not as fast as the saxo vts up to 60 though. im after the mk 2.5, one came into work last week and i had a drive of it. only thing that puts me off them is there looks.... not the best

haha yea man great minds think a like. i want a car with air-con and some better extras, im not sure on what i want and no dout ill change my mind 100 times before the time comes.... i really want something i can go all out on, on the body-work and not have to worry about spending to much on the engine to make it go as it looks if you get me? A xsara would be a good frame for a full on euro look imo, and i loved the one i drove.
haha well jam dosent have a safety catch on his bonnet as the lad who he bought it off had removed it.... after seeing my bonnet fly up (he was behind me when it happened) i think he realised he really needs something there at-least to stop it happening to his. its a good idea like!

cheers, im not sure on the splitter myself tbh, there could be a few more changes to the car MAYBE before it goes will just have to see how bored i get with it. i may remove that splitter as its a love or hate thing really. possibly remove that one and put a cupra splitter on the front? will have to see what i can find in the scrappies lol

yea this is a problem but it takes me about an hour to line the front bumper up with tie wraps, and i need some vt arch liners and need to mesh the widemouth so i just fitted it quickly for now..... ive orderd some mesh and going to get some liners this week hopefully so will whip it of next week end and finish the widemouth then fit it properlly with the new liners. your dead right about the front height though, sadly the only really option for me to get it any lower is coilovers and with me going to get rid of it soon its not worth the money. ideally i want the front down 90mm with the rear sat at 80mm.
Imo all the daft little things are done on the car, if i was to keep it the only other mods i would do are big ones:
16v
Gaz coilovers
Rear disc beam
some major bodywork
a nice set of wide 14" rims (ones ive been looking at are in excess of 1.5k)

yea that would be good but its a big job, id be doing it myself but i dont really wona put the time and money into it for me just to get rid of it next year.... plus painting in the winter in my garage isnt great as its to cold really even with heaters. ya never no though i could get bored with having nothing to do. i died the headlining myself with some upholstry die (its made specially for car interior) it came in spray tins from ebay haha. its not the best quality but it looks decent enough on the roof. i used about 5 cans of it. costs around £4 a can i think. search for 'vehicle carpet die'
very nice was the right choice keeping it. i think it looks great. love the wheels.

Get a VTS engine for it and have a sleeper! awsome fun!
Or get a VTS??? keep it Saxo!
Tom5190
24th October 2009, 19:46
haha i have been seriously thinking about what to do and weighing up the costs etc, a sleeper would be nice but other things would be needed apart from engine, would want a rear disc beam, coilies etc.....
me and the gf are planning a road trip round europe nxt summer though hopefully and i dont think a saxo would cut it, or more importantly make it! i want air con and some other luxuries too etc, i want somethin abit bigger too. there is a few more mods left to go on this saxo though before it goes, not to many though.

This car is mint and would be a good sleeper:y:but like you said in my thread, you would like that europe trip and need a better car for that, but whatever happens its for the best.what plans have you get left for this then Tom?
plans for it before christmas are:
1. Source some VT* arch liners for front
2. Sort front bumper out - Fit mesh and align properlly
3. Fit new 2-way boot popper (current one opens then i have to push it back in)
4. Underseal the full bottom of the car
5. Plasma Dials
6. H.I.D's
7. Upgrade all other bulbes to L.E.D's
8. Finally a full service jst before christmas ready to sell in january
1 - 4 should be done within the next 2 weeks then the rest basicaly one every 2 weeks. i think these last mods will help make the car alot more 'sell-able' and hopefully i should get my money back from what its going to cost (around £200.) There is also the possibility of some fixed shortend Spax front dampers but only if i can find some second hand (or any other shortned dampers really) and also a standard air box/filter

Cheers bud, had a few problems with the car over the last 2 months which im going to have to fix after the new year.
Problem's:
Headunit broke (now got new one)
Front bumper has a nasty chip out of it (big stone i think)
Somebody decided to kick the front O/S wing in so it needs a new one!
Exhaust is now blowing badly
Drivers seat mounting has snapped and needs welding
Hopefully will have all these done over next week if not the week after, its a pain like because its money that im only going to loose when i come to sell it soon (very soon!) but its gotta be done as i dont feel comfortable selling it unless its not prettymuch perfect!
Will update with pictures tomorrow after a decent clean
Tom5190
31st December 2009, 18:02
Ok so got the car cleaned and waxed again today, paint work is looking really good its a shame about the light in the pictures (bit of a bad day to take pictures), and the fact the drive to the beach coverd it in shit! (even though it took all of 3 minutes)
Things that have changed since last pictures:
Re-fitted bumper properly and meshed it
Lost the daft 8V badge (oh no 10 less bhp :( )
Fitted some aero wipers as the others were really old!
New Headunit as the mini disk one finally broke
Standard air filter fitted
Think thats about it and the cars not getting anything else done to it before its sold apart from fixing the seat and a new O/S front wing some time in the next month. The bumper could possibly be resprayed but that just depends on what its like in 2 months.

Right so winter is pretty much over and the car only just survived it! Theres been a change of plans and i am now keeping the car for the forseable future so here's whats been going on.
LONG STORY BEWARE
Winter Trauma:
Endless amounts of problems happened at a time i was very short on cash! So below is a list of whats been changed/done mechanically on the car:
New Head Gasket x 2 (first one was faulty)
New Head bolts
Tappets redone about 3 times now to get them perfect
Full service
oil + rad flushed
Fuel treatment ran through
Rebuilt the head whilst it was off
Head skim
All other gaskets replaced to do with HG (rocker cover, manifold and inlet rings)
New timing belt + kit
New water pump
New clutch kit fitted
New Uprated Gear linkages fitted
New Gearbox Selector pin fitted
Pipercross airfilter was replaced with standard
1 x Rear brake cylinder
2 x Rear wheel bearings
2 x Rear drums
Rear shoes replaced
Renewed brake fluid
New Alternator belt
Fixed broken drivers seat mount (which has now snapped again)
At the time i found out the first gasket was faulty (which was when i ran the car) i obviously wasnt 100% it was the gasket before i did some test's, so i looked into other options as i needed the cheapest option to get the car back on the road. So i also bought a MINT condition 1.1 engine cheap, 35K and is my insurence policy so to speak, its sat in my garage now just incase.
So on a lighter note the car is close to being perfect in mechanical terms, in the next few weeks im guna paint the underneath in a few coats of hamerite and crack on with fixing some other things, along with working full time sorting all of the above problems in the list did take up quite abit of my time so the car was neglected in terms of the paint/exterior.
My home painted parts are really not up to scratch and i wish id paid out in the first place to get them done professionally so this will be happening some time soon, the list of things im going to be doing is:
New O/S wing as its still dented (ive had it off and tried taping them out the best i can but its not really worked)
New Front bumper to start from scratch on, a few mod's to it and then painted professionally
Still need to wire in my boot popper
Get rear boot handle re-painted
Get seat mount welded properlly
Sorry for the essay, so the intresting bits (sort of)
Whats changed:
Ditched Ibiza splitter
New BMC induction kit (curtosy of JAM, Cheers bud!)
Some front Xenon LED side blub's
Rear brake/Side LED bulbs
Below is some pictures from this weekend, cleaned it over 2 days then went and got it mucky again, what was done
Rinse
Hand wash
Rinse
Hand wash
Rinse
Dried
Full polish
Waxed
Waxed
Waxed
glass/ trim treated
Engine bay cleaned
All products were cheapo's really as im using up all the stuff ive got before i make a large order off CYC!
Cheers for reading if you did ESSAY FTW

Im in the process of taking the window tint's off, the rear window is done, me and JAM (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/member.php?u=25766) used T-cut...... and it worked a treat! Ill be doing the rear quaters tomorrow after work as i ran out of time tonight. Will also get my boot popper fitted this week finally!
Payday this weekend and im planing on ordering some stuff from CYC and getting myself a new wing.
I gave the car a clean today and went for a few more snaps, this will be last post for a while until ive got a few more things sorted on the car.

Nice one for the photoshop bud much appreciated, looks pretty decent like but dont wona follow the crowd to much!
So my back box decided to sepertate from my centre section on saturday on the way home from a nite out (not the best time to drive 10 miles sounding like a tracktor)
So sunday morning i drove down to work, pulled my car in the garage to find the other lad i work with was there, i told him what had happened to my car, that i was guna temp fix it until today then get a new centre section and rear box..... he had a look and said it was fine to be welded again (i have no welding skills)
BUT..... being the one that told me to make a custom rear backbox a few weeks back he asked did i want to fix it or see what else we could do, so basically i tested a few silencers out of the scrap trailor on the car to see what sound's i could get, i settled with an almost perfect condition silencer from a 'Seat Arosa' which i think sounds the nuts and it pops so happy days.....
So we choped and changed a few other random exhaust parts and he welded me up a very good custom rear box. Free fix and free upgrade :afro: cant be bad.

Using T-cut to remove window tints? Care to elaborate as im in the process of removing window tints also.
Tom5190
5th April 2010, 20:25
Ye no probs, the problem i had was that when i removed the film with a vinyl remover the black residue was still stuck to the window so we used t-cut to remove it. BUT since then ive done the rear quaters and found it easier to remove the film, soak the windows in water and use a scourer sponge (not the tinny ones the fabric ones) and it took half the time

wow love the car and that exhaust sounds beast! i would love my 1.1 to sound like that! haha :y:
You can make it sound like that pretty easilly and cheap too, obviously it wont give any performance gains and most likely decrease performance but if noise is what you want then get your self a centre silencer from any car thats got one and get it fitted up, i wouldnt get it welded to your centre section though just incase it dosent sound right. The shape of the box determine's the sound by the way.

Thanks, not really its easy, just gotta play about with tie-wraps on the corner's, or if youve got time make your self up some brackets and attach them to the chassis up inside the wheel arch.

liking the vtr front bumper, has it hard to fit at all?
Tom5190
26th April 2010, 21:18
Orite lads, a vtr bumper will bolt straight onto the flat arch with No work to it at all, the issue you have is the outter edges were it normally bolts onto the wing, the bumper needs to be pulled in at the edges with some tie wraps and thats about it!

Right so abit has changed since last update, trying to just do these monthly now.
Changes:
Ive ditched the red rim tape.
Front has been fitted with 70mm Pi springs & Spax PSX adjustable shock's.
Had to move the PAS pipe for this.
Removed the spare wheel and cage, sanded, cleaned and painted the boot floor.
Fitted a Mk1 exhaust manifold & downpipe.
Converted to a Canister type oil filter.
Fixed the boot popper permantntly and finally refitted the boot trim.
EXCUSE CAR IN ALL PICTURES ITS RATHER DIRTY!

It has dropped the car 70mm, its not massivly different but it is now lower at the front that the back which is what i was after, any lower and its coilies which i wont be buying. Next to do is to get the wing sorted and a new front bumper with a few tweaks but that wont be for a while. Ill be putting a new engine in it in the next 3 weeks when i can find a day to myself but its only a straight swap 1.1 just low milage. Will grab some pictures at the weekend once its been cleaned.

Loooking good now tom, sits a bit better now, the back doesnt look so low now, that it is a bit more level:) Plans sound good too:y:
Looking as good as ever mate although the front end looks wrongs somehow, i think its because you have no arch lining.
Also when you get a new bumper you should smooth in a laguna splitter then the front will look awesome :y:

Looking class mate, BMC cold feed is awesome - well glad its being used still :D
BMC Crew yo!
Bit of advice Tom having the cold air feed there is bad. Your better off not having one fitted then having it there.
Best place to feed it is have an Aluminium pipe running down to the bumper and cable tie it underneath.
Tom5190
9th May 2010, 10:59
I no aly I'm abit stuck on it really, I've had an air feed comming from bumper but the piping keeps splitting, but when the bmc gets no cold air feed it's way to loud. Don't fancy buyin some proper piping though as I'll probly not notice the difference. Will have to see what I can do with it when I drop the new engine in

the cars looking mint mate, what engine you gonna be putting in? im thinkin of dropping either a vtr lump or a rallye lump. depends which i can get easier haha
Tom5190
9th May 2010, 13:55
Well engine depends on what happens with my current job, im in a situation next month were i either get my pay just over doubled or i lose my job lmao. bit of a wierd situation, also depends on my uni place, ive got an engine at work now its a 1.1 with 35 K on. if i lose the job weather i get a uni place or not ill be dropping the 1.1 in, if i get the rise and get the uni place ill still be dropping the 1.6 in, most likely an 8v if i get the rise and dont get the uni place ill be getting a new car.
Just gotta see what happens at the end of next month. Got 2 holidays and a few birthdays to get through though
Edit:
the cars looking mint mate, what engine you gonna be putting in? im thinkin of dropping either a vtr lump or a rallye lump. depends which i can get easier haha
sorry i missed this comment, you can pick up a vtr engine piss easy, a rallye would be better but for pure ease of fitting and cheapness the vtr one would be the choice for me
Whats up with your front suspension mate? Lol Mine is down 50mm at the front apparently and it looks the same as yours yet you say yours is 70mm? Next time we are both together we can compare :P
Tom5190
9th May 2010, 14:07
Probly just the way the pictures are, its definatly lower as it scrapes when i come of zoe's drive now :(
Ive measured it up:
original height was - 38cm
50mm height was - 33.2cm (this was actually 34 cm when i removed the springs, im guessing having the rear lowerd raised the front angle a tad)
70mm height is - 30.9cm
I doubt there guna settle anymore but looking at the springs when there fully down they must have a strange load rating through the coil's as the bottom 3 coils sit on top of each other yet the top set hasnt changed much from before they were compressed.
Why would you drop another 1.1 in?
What's wrong with the current one.
Tom5190
9th May 2010, 14:19
Theres nout wrong with the current one ive rebuilt it and its nice and solid..... However the main reason for dropping the other one in will be to sell the car, its almost on 100K now and even though i no the engines better than its ever been ive got no receipts or anything, got no proof of headgaskets and timing belts as ive done it all myself. A 1.1 with 100K and no service history wont sell for what its actually worth as theres no way of telling if its actually a shitter haha. Nobody i no will buy it so its going to be a stranger.
Im stuck on what to do at the moment, i may just fit the other 1.1 for the time being BUT as my dad said i may be fitting a shitter engine lol, but for sale purpose's its all about the milage.
If im honest i no whats guna happen, im guna end up buying another engine and having the 3 to choose from, i dont wona drop an un-registerd engine in it though if i am guna sell it, if i do drop a 16v in it in the next 2 months its going to make it even harder to sell, and to be honest ive had enough of the sax now i need something bigger

If you drop a 16v in it ill swap you for mine its just what im after. Would of prefered a rear disk beam conversion too tho.
And ea i see what you mean about the front springs.

The problem is with my front arch's, the tyres that are on my wheels the tread is hidden in the arch, so on all the pictures theres still about 2cm of tyre that you cant see on the front, making the gap look bigger, if i had some wider 15" wheels on then they would fill the arch's alot better, got offerd some really nice ones for £30 but they were corsa fitment so with a refurb + spacers and PCD adaptors they didnt work out so cheap!
Id love a disc beam like, the arms can be swapped over so you dont need a full beam, if i keep the car i may do this if an engine is dropped in. If i do go for another engine ill be buying a full car not just an engine as i want the job lot to go in and will work out cheaper to do it like that anyways for me.
