Hi, thought i mayaswell start one of these off, ive got a Mk2 1.1 desire at the moment (first car), not planning on doing any engine modifications to it as i am HOPING to get a vts this time next year. ive done a few mods to it so far, got a few more planned.

Havnt got any of the car as i bought it, but it was standard, basically these picture's minus the lights and petrol cap sticker.

So here it is last year:

your pictures dont seem to be working for me. but what youve done sounds ncie!

Tom5190
31st October 2008, 14:33
The first thing i did was to ditch the sticker and the lexus lights, i tinted my old standard lights on the lighter bit (wanted to keep it subtle), and also blacked my badges and tinted the side repeators with the extra spray.

Rear :

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/RearDarkenedLightsBadges2.jpg

Side:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/SprayedSideRepeators.jpg

Next was to change my grille and headlights, followed the guide to darken the inner bits, was pretty happy how they turned out heres pics. (there is abit of glue on the lights on this pic its on the outside i hadnt washed it after i had re-fitted them)

Headlights:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/HeadlightsNewFitted.jpg

As you can see the grille is missing, i had a go at making my own, the mesh i bought was shite really and to thick to fit into the standard grille, so for the time being there is no mesh, looks abit of a mess but the citroen badges are sprayed black, and im hoping to sort out some black mesh this week.

Grille:

any ideas or pointers from any one would be great

Right i finally got time to clean it today, so i took some pictures. i started making a false floor for the boot yesterday just waiting on some carpet to arrive and ill fit it all, will get some pics of that up by end of the week hopefully.

also need some help, im this first picture you can see that citroen decided to abit crazy with the glue when they fitted my grille, and since ive take the black plastic out of it, you can see white glue everywere, ive use a scraper to remove almost all ov if but now its left white stains. what would be best to get rid of these? got some mesh sorted for the grille aswell should have that done by end of week if i get time.

Smogie great looking car mate. 1.1 owners FTW!!

How did you smoke your headlights?

i followed a guide on here, was ded easy to do, bought some primer and paint from halfrauds, just put the lights in the oven to heat up the glue and remove glass, then sanded down the insides and sprayed them. cost £12 for the 2 cans of paint.

Tom5190
17th November 2008, 11:18
Got some pictures of the false floor this mornin, i built it off one of the how to guides off here so its nothing different ive seen a few exactly the same as it. im still waiting for some carpet so its not 100% finished but here it is:

Nice 1.1 buddy, seems like you've got your head screwed on with the modifications, a simple air filter will fit onto a bigger engined car matey you just gotta know what you're doing with the 1.1 to get a vtr/s filter to fit. Ask around if you decide to do any form of engine mods :y:

What shade of red is the sax, I wouldn't say it's wicked red, but it's not venetian or persian neither :p looks different.

keep it up the boot install looks good, not my thing but looks spot on :y:

Tom5190
11th December 2008, 17:20
Right the uv paint arrived today, rather earlly so i was pleased with ebay for once! i painted the silver parts of my amp as the instructions for the paint said the whiter the surface the better, i have gave it 4 coats so far, i think it needs atleast another 4 for the full effect because its still a little 'streaky'. so i am going to do that wen i get time. here it is for now

Without UV light:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/11122008380.jpg

With UV light:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/11122008381.jpg

and this is how it looks in my boot, the amp needs to be raised at the back were it is less lit up because of the position of the neon and how low the false floor is but heres how it looks atm

Got on with my window tint today as i had a full day free, i bought it pre-cut (which was bullshit because they wer differnet shapes and sizes for both the rear quaters.) it looks ok from a distance i suppose, not sure if im guna leave it on or not yet but here it is

Before:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/22122008454.jpg

After:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/22122008457.jpg

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/22122008459.jpg

seems like everything is ok all apart from the outsides of the tint, some parts have stuck fine over the enamal and some havnt, no idea why this has happened. help please if any body knows?

Also tided up my old lights, lexus ones. tried tinitng them all black a few weeks ago and left them to dry in the cold (doh!) so they looked like this:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/28112008335-1.jpg

so i cleaned them up, masked them off and sprayed them again to look like this:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/22122008466.jpg

here they are on car
Old:

What you rekon is better?

Also fitted some blue sidelight bulbs, i know these are illegal but i never drive with just sidelights on, and they give the wona be hid look pretty well haha

Sidelights:

rear lights look good i dont rate tinting spray prefer to use lots of laguer and a bit of gloss black looks shinyer

I painted them first and it looked shite so i wet + dry'd them to get the paint off, and the silver came off with it. T-cut works just as good though, and T-cut would be a better way to do it as well, the wet and dry damaged my paint work abit as it scratched. got the tint spray from a motor factors, it was £12, i think you can pick it up for cheaper but not sure were. nice one cheers

nah didnt take them off to paint them i hand painted them, that was why they looked so shit. and to wet and dry them i also left them on. if ur guna t-cut them all you gotta do is clean the car, then take abit of tcut on a cloth and rub onto the badges till the silver comes off. depending how much you use u may need to do it once of twice.

and future plans are to finish the window tints, install a switch for interior neons and lower it, have that done hopefully by end of january.

cool will have to get some pics up, i havnt decided on the wheels i want for mine yet!

Got the two front windows tinted at the weekend here is some pic's, hopefully should have the rear window done by this weekend. heres some pics so far.

i agree, i stuck with the saxo lights, guna see if i can make them look abit better, going to tint them again (did a pretty shit job first time) n give them a coat of laquer i think.

oooh.... those tints look illegal dude!

and the neon's are a big no no on here ;)

aye they are illegal, i think any tint on front windows is illegal now. guna leave them on and see if anything gets said to me if im pulled over or anything.

neons still not wired up, guna get them wired up soon and see what they look like.

got some chrome indicator bulbs off ebay to get rid of the yellowish look on my headlights:

Right as i said i would do i have re-done my rear lights, this time i removed all the tint i had previously sprayed on, masked the lights up a little differently, and resprayed with more layers, when they had dried i sprayed 2 coats of laquer to the hole light, i think it looks better than the first set, what you rekon?

also these arrived today, 50mm G-max lowering springs, they were a day too late as i was hoping to get them fitted at college today. had abit of trouble with the car as the Rear N/S drum was pissing brake fluid. turned out to be the cylinder so i got that sorted instead.

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/06012009510.jpg

i havnt had chance to finish the rear window tint yet so will hopefully get it done at the weekend whilst i swap the springs over.

like someone said in this thread if you use a hair dryer and press down on the bubbles then they go, jsut keep doing it a few times make sure the tint is warm and press firmly on it for a around a minute.
oh and that isnt a bubble on myn, its were the tint was cut abit to big so i cant even sort it out :(

forgot to add, did u do the rear in 2 halfs and did u join it using the thickness of the element ??

i bought my tint pre-cut, the back came in 3 parts it was a nightmare to do, the back window hasnt turned out as good as the others but im guna see if i can make it better with the hairdrier.

Tom5190
18th January 2009, 23:17
Ok so this week ive had alot of little things to do to the car before i go ahead and fit my springs, heres the list of what ive had to do:

Re-fit 3rd brake light as it broke and rattled like mad
Relocate my crossovers as they were rattling
Refit my headunit and remove neons as this was to much wiring behind the console and sound kept cutting out
Fit a new tax disc holder as my old one was very much out of place and glue wore off
Sort out the rear window tint as it went very bad (still havnt got this sorted)
Fit a new fuel line as the clip were the line sits onto the rail had worn down
fit standard sidelight bulbs
fix driverside indicator housing (still need to do this one)

heres a few pics of tdh and window tint:

Before:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/16012009550.jpg

After:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/16012009549.jpg

so now all these little things are sorted its time to lower it, ive got the week free so guna start with the front springs tomorow, hopefully there wont be to many problems along the way so i should have the new springs fitted. guna measure up the ride height to as i have a suspision its not going to drop 50mm but we will see.

Tom5190
21st January 2009, 15:10
So today i finally got round to fitting my springs, proved abit tricky, i wouldnt do it at home again but got there in the end.

(for the other people with flat arch's)

I was stuck on which suspension to buy myself so hope this helps some of you. I bought a set of G-Max lowering springs, they claimed a 50mm drop and cost me £55 posted off ebay. I measured up the height of the car so if your thinking about wot springs to get you can see what these actually do. i drove the car before measuring the height after the springs were fitted so they had settled, car didnt feel any more responsive on handleing, less roll and generally stiffer. thats about it

Standard ride height - 38cm

New ride height - 33.2 cm

so it is about 50mm but to be honest i couldnt really tell the difference without these pictures.

thats down 50mm? What springs and dampers are you using bud, looks slightly higher than my 1.1 down 40mm :ponder:

I'd go for 50mm rear to keep things level, however with a boot build in the rear it should settle it to 60mm and that would look spot on tbh.

Looking good matey :y:

And i'd go 80mm on the back, slam ftw

ye, well measured up its down 48mm. using standard shocks with G-max springs. was gutted about the height drop tbh, for the height i want its guna have to be more like 80mm on the front but havnt got funds for coilovers so will have to settle for that now. ye i was thinkin the rear down 60.. but i love the look of the posi flat arch on here that was dropped 90-100 so the 80mm is also tempting.

what springs/shocks you using?

totally agree i need more on the front, when ive got this vt bumper on and stuff i mite look into some more springs/coilovers

I'm using spax 40mm springs and spax dampers bud. :y:

Yeah it would look immense slammed, kraigleeders sax was one of my fave slammed flat arch's. The thing is you don't want the rear too low and the front sticking up. Will mess the balance up completely and will look silly :geek:

Good luck on finding a decent set of coilovers :y:

ye thats the one, i was on about loved that flat arch. ye your right thats what im afraid of if i take it to low while the front is sitting high, its guna look bad, understeer will be immense too. I think ill get it down 80 n see what's what. The only reason its going to the garage is cos i cant get the bars out so once they had them out will be easier for me at home i guess i can change it myself if im not happy with it.

Took a trip upto sunderland today to 'Manic Motors' to get the rear dropped. its down 70mm. im really glad i didnt go 80 as it wud of looked stupid. as it sits now the fronts a little to high for my likeing so after ive got wheels and bumper sorted i think some 70mm springs will be on order. anyways heres some pics (excuse the muck im off out again so not washing it)

no rubbage at all and i picked my bro n sis up from school to, they got in back still no problems.... did have to go another way though as i sorta got caught short on some speed bumps lol! also got told if i run these 165's on my vtr rims ill get no rubbage once there on (should be 2 weeks or so.)

ye its gotta be dropped more at the front most definatly, the 70mm springs are appealing but im abit short of cash atm and i really wona get the bumper and alloys finished first, got to much clutterd up in my garage!

gotta say that manic motors were excellent, nipped for some munch while they done it and returned 2 hours later car was all finished. also sorted out some new bolts and washers for me.... i had a bolt missing out of one of the shocks (it wasnt attached to the car! WTF) cost me £50 all in so not a bad price i thought.very recommenable and the guys were spot on that i spoke to

i was suprised how low it sat for 70mm, considering a few people have gone 100! i have realised a small problem though, theres speed bumps on my estate, as it sits now the back gets over fine but only with about 2cm to spare... i planned on a rear splitter and sideskirts so the back may have to be raised slightly will have to see.

lol did you seriously cut coil's off yours? seriously bad idea that.

i got some new rear shocks on today, feels alot better on the back now really pleased. had a change of mind about my wheels, will not be re-furbing them my self guna get them powder coated. theres a few things i need to sort out but priorities are:

New Springs + Shocks for front (70mm drop)
Alloys re-furbed
Adjust Tappits

the above is going to cost a fair bit and with me being skint i think that progress is going to be pretty much none existant over the next 3-4 months

Havnt updated for a while, gave the car a good clean and wax today and yesterday, may get some snaps of it at the NEMM meet tonight, a few small updates. Firstly my uncle asked me to clean his car a few weeks ago (a 106) so i pinched the door pillars, think the black ones are much better and i want a black roof lining at some point anyway so got the pillers for free:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/04042009011.jpg

also got one of these metal grommets, was doing my nut in people kept pushing the rubber one through:

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo32/TJW5190/04042009012.jpg

And finally i broke up for 2 weeks yesterday so spent the day on my wheels, got one fully preped and sprayed... still needs more coats and some laquer but heres a sneak. hopeing to get them all finished and fitted bor next week, hopefully get them sprayed by friday then elave them a few days to harden:

Ive had some trouble with the car recently, i took the rocker cover off to spray it, didnt sit it right when i put it back on i over tightened the nuts and warrped it around were it sits on the stud. so after id sprayed it i had to hammer it bk into shape so some of the paint has come off:wall: (its so annoying when you know its your own fault)

Also im having trouble fitting this new fuel line, my old one popped off and its proving abit difficult to get the new one on. Ive got a nasty constant squeal from the right hand side wheel, asif the brakes are constantly on and my tax disc holder keeps falling off ! im not best friends with the car at the moment cant really be arsed with it.

But.... i have done a few things though, ive now finished the 2 front wheels, guna get the car into the workshop and get the tyres fitted on tuesday then just gotta get the other 2 wheels done and i can go nd get them balanced and on the car....finally! Progress is dragging at the moment as ive ad no work for the past few weeks but should pick up again in about a month.

heres some pictures from last few days....

end of next week 'HOPEFULLY.' plan is to get some 185's on the 2 wheels ive finished, get them balanced on friday then swap them with the 2 front steelies.... then take the 165 tyre's off the 2 steelies and get them onto the other 2 vtr wheels (which should be done by then, using 165's to stop rubbing on rear arch) and then get them balanced and swap these with the rear steelies. just gotta stop bein lazy n get the other 2 finished now so i can get em all on and sorted.

(Sorry about pics got a new fone and camera isnt as good as N95)

Ive had the wheels fitted for a few days now, everything seems to be ok with them, the bolts seem to be different to all other ones ive seen on vtr/s's though. but they do have a flat seat so im guessing there ok, theres no wobble in any wheels and the botls are straight from citroen.

was ultra short on cash a few weeks ago so sold my head and fogs and got some standards, so ive re-tinted them too. also picked up my vt calipers and sprayed them up, just waiting for these pads to wear and then ill buy the new discs and pads to fit the calipers:

Calipers (close to wicked red as i could find:)

Ive fitted some 185/55's to the front and fitted my 165/60's off steelies to the rear wheels. the 185's rubbed quite alot but with the 165's there is no problem at all. was out the other night in the car with a few people off here and suprisingly i noticed the handling is amazing on it for some reason. with it being so low i thought it wouldnt be but it corners really really well. a huge improvement from stnadard wheels and height.

heres some pics after a quick wash today, i no i need new tyres, there on the way!

Have done a few mods over the past few weeks, also got a few more wating, bought myself a popper for boot, got some VT brakes ready to go on just waiting for discs to arrive and also got myself a rocker cover badge. In generl the car is filthy and needs a good clean but thought id jsut get some snaps of new mods while it was sunny.

New mods:

Right the VT bumper i picked up for next to nothing but it was broken, so basically i had to fix the crack, then widemouth it and smooth off the rest my self, everything was done by me in my garage inc paint and this was my 2nd attempt at body work (my first being boot handle) so its far from perfect, it also needs some mesh for the mouth & dosent look asif its sat properlly.

New Wide-mouthed VT* Bumper

FOGS, definately.
Also looks like your mising the bit that im missing on the front bumper. It DEFINATELY shouldnt be that low. There is a kind of craddle behind the middle bit that clips under the grill.

Ibiza rear splitter looks good. Much work to fit and set you back much?

Put another picture of front end up straight on view, bumper still looks abit iffy.

ah right i didnt realise tere was another piece like, will have to see what i can do to pull it up, it didnt sit in place for any of the standard bolts so its basically jsut tie-wrapped on haha

no ibiza splitter was very very easy to fit, rear bumper off to make it easier, then fixed it in place with 5 screws, 1 in each end o pull it inwards 1 in the very middle then 1 each side in the middle of the other bolts, also used mastick which you can see on the bumper still as i put way to much on, gotta pull it off now. then it just needs cutting down at each end (i had to cut the gaps out of it first) it cost me £19 from seat new
