Tom5190's Flat Arch - Progress (16.09.2013)

Went and grabbed a few quick pictures after work tonight before i shoot off back down south next week. Off top of my head things that have changed since last time are:

Magnex Rear box
Front Dimma Grille
Abit more stuff took out of the back
Gave it a quick oil & filter change
2 x Avon tyres on front
2 x ditch finders on the rear

Wanted to get the wing done before i went back to uni but after getting out of my over draft ive spent pretty much everything ive earned on rent and living plus the above so its been put on hold yet again (wish i was 17 again and just wasted my money away!)

i wouldnt mind getting rid of toe eye and badges like, just always in two minds about getting rid of it, cant sell it in the state its in now so i need to tidy it up asap and decide what im doing. Almost swapped it last week but was too late and lost the car i wanted.

Its just the standard carpet bits, dont want to rip them off as there glued on and im also scared of finding rust hahaha. Nah i just wanted to leave it on, im debaiting weather to re-spray the inside of the car myself so if i do they will come off.

Right few things have changed since last time:

Vts Gearbox
Vts Drive shafts
Catcam 708's (unmapped)
Re-painted wiper arms
1.1i Side Badges
Rear arch's cut and pulled out

708's are in tomorrow, will be unmapped until tuesday, me and the boss man are going up to RS tuning to map them first thing, then carry out a cam trial on some new catcam item's. Power figures will be put up next week some time.

Ive also got my finger out and orderd a new wing, should be sorted in about 2 weeks time :D

Yea I'm going to go for Gti-6 front brakes with some braided lines and 23mm master cylinder. Will probably be after Christmas like, need to get this cam trial sorted, get the new wing fitted and sort out some rear pads.

Its a disc beam thats lowerd about 60mm

It was lowerd 70mm before on the drum beam with all the interior in, im guessing it would sit about 80mm with everything back in the rear.

Right 708's went in this morning, not running them on standard timing marks timed them up to the right degree's and ready for mapping on tuesday now along with the other 2 sets of cam's.

Compressions read around the 260 region +/- 3-4psi Which i was suprised at considering the shitter it came out of.

Also fitted some new cam seals while i was there which eliminates my oil leak nicely.

FINALLY the correct wing has arrived for it so that will be sent off for paint next week and i may have got myself a set of jp4 cam covers so will update once its all done.

i have been thinking about doing this alot recently aswell. i had a look at my mount when the waterpump was being replaced and it had a fair bit extra wear on it haha. there must be a lot of flex at high revs

Mines fine at the minute, but theres a shell at work with one on i may aswell take it. going to put it in just after christmas i think. Least i can clean and spray the bay up at the same time.

Cheers mate, wheels were sold to me as the wrong make! guess i won as i wuite like them.

Right so i went upto RS Tuning on tuesday with 2 full days booked on the road, we took a 205 up with us too.

Idea was to cary out a cam trial for CatCam's. I had 708's fitted before we drove up. Did a power run and then a tweaked with the mapping to get a figure. Then i fitted another 2 sets of cams and did the same with them, power runs and a map on each. I am now using one of the 'Evo1' set of cams as they were better than the 708's.

The Evo2's made the best peak power due to the design on them but as you can see in that graph it was abit poor'r everywere else, plus bhp figures are aload of balls really so i went for the evo1's.

We can also re-map them now :) I've been trying for a long time to set up an affiliate section on here for work but I don't think it could be made any harder or less helpful! Once I set it up i can do a proper write up about them and the differences etc

Right so firstly, the previous power runs were done on a dynostar at RS tuning. We had a problem with both this car and the 205 leaving the rear roller (its a twin roller) and the power readings were abit low. However bhp means fuck all on its own so the trip was still a good test to show the gains from the new cams over the 708's on the same engine.

So we normally use 'Northampton Motorsport' at work for our mapping and rolling road figures, therefore i needed to do a power run there so i could compare with our other cars, most people will agree this place is pretty bang on with there power runs and i know alot of members on here have used them.

So first i did a power run to see how different it was on this roller to the one at RS tunning. Northampton rollers are completly different they use a single roller with a different mechanism and measure run down.

Another problem we had with the 205 was that the throttlebody or manifold was restricting air, now on them gti-6 motors the inlet manfild is pretty nice so matt gave marks throttle body a port and polish, and seems as we were going to the road anyway we did one for my car, alot of speculation goes around about weather its worth it or not blah blah. But if you have a throttle body kicking about and some spare time this is what happens.

Its a 2bhp increase and the throttle seems alot more responsive. cant be bad when the new cams only gave an extra 4 odd!

So there we go 151bhp she made today on a well trusted road. love it :P And here is comparrison to another vts on the same road:

The above in red is a vts with 708's, KMS management and an induction kit with full exhaust system inc mani. (mine is the black)

Makes same sort of power my car did on throttle bodies. Using NHM too.

2bhp isn't really a measurable amount IMO.. Could be inlet temps changing or many other things.

No my limit is 7,600 :s i dont no what happened with the car on that run, ive never seen it before but basically on a few runs it was revving to almost 8k after we disconnected the battery at some point. really strange, it didnt make anymore power but it was wierd.

It drinks petrol now compared to before if you drive it in cam, but its worth every penny :D

Aw im not mate sorry im working tuesday and got a full day booked in on the car wednesday, could pop to my grandads on wednesday and see it (its in boro anywayys) but it will be in the garage its getting a detail (or the best i can do without machine) ready for some photos after the bodyshop. I was guna drop you a text anyway and a few others to see if you fancied going somewere for some snaps.

Had a little mess about in it tonight and discoverd the flames are alot bigger than i thought so i got jam to try and grab some videos

Yea if a cheap set of boddies comes up later on next year ill snap them up but power wont really increase too much with them from what ive seen. Think i mayaswell just enjoy it as it is now.

Finally!! Its got a proper wing on it. Picked it up from the bodyshop today then gave it a detail (best i could do) didnt take any pictures of the quickshift but there not really exciting. Went to get some photos too with 'Lewis'

Been having some cooling issues with it that i should of really looked at before i detailed it but im planing on sorting that this weekend, it just wont keep any heat once its moving. Next update will be a massive list of standard parts no doubt needs some general maintanence attention.

Anyways apart from general stuff and the smashed fog im happy with how it is now so bring on the track season!

Right had a few issues with it since i been back in oxford. Done a fuel tank on my mates car the other day and had a day away from uni work so thought id do some bits on mine and start with sealing the exhaust....... Id hit a speed bump when it was fully loaded on the way down and had been blowing ever since but since i jacked it up the centre pipe has a huge hairline crack in it :wall: only had it a few weeks.

So im going to get one made up for it on wednesday as im abit skint and cant be fussed buying something along the lines of an SS or piper.

Also it needs a new stat as its sticking open, need some new gaskets for the cam covers as there leaking slightly, the cambelt covers need to go back on and i need to fit the new fog light.

Got quite abit of uni work so havnt had time yet will get all that done wednesday hopefully.

Also got this on the go in the mean time, blowjob to who ever says what it is first!:homme:

Its ok mate im not that way inclined lol :homme: when you do the conversion mate it really isn't straight forward as it looks but points to give you which will help loads is but solder flux and put loads over the points you solder as to much heat to the connection when desoldering you WILL blow the board. Flux helps reduce the amount of heat and actually helps with the desoldering and re soldering process. Also do it one light at a time and make sure you REMEMBER WHICH WAY THE BULB IS ON THE BOARD!! putting the new bulb on the wrong way will not work and you have to take of and swap over stressing the board even more. again flux if your friend. You can tell which way around the bul goes as their is a cut out on one corner of the bulb, make the cutout on the new bulb sit on the same connection, repeat this process through every bulb and bobs your uncle.

Yeah system in mate just sounds wank need someone to fine tune it for me know any audio fanatic mates in Middlesbrough who could give a hand for me?

Ok so ive been sorting a few problems out on the car, i caught the exhaust on a speed bump backing off a curb, at first i thought id split the rear joint or damaged the back box (thankfully not) turns out i smashed the centre pipe and but a huge crack in it that just grew at an insane speed over about a week. I also sorted out the cooling issue and a few other things.

So whats changed now:

Supersprint centre section
Piper 3.5" outwardly rolled rear box
Replaced front O/S fog light
New thermo stat and coolant renewed

It didnt come off like that you can tell by the angle. i did most of that by getting the magnex off.

Been having problems with the piper as the hangers were abit mad on it so at the moment its on some punto hangers ha. Will sort that out when i get back to work or if i can get in the garage back home next week.

Im not really planning on doing anything major to the car for the rest of this year in terms of mods, i cant afford any more power really, i wouldnt mind some 266mm brakes but mine are fine at the minute and i have a vtr bumper kicking about that i want to get on. Im going to the ring in it this year, le mans, i want to try and make it to all the main shows too and uni is alot more full on. :n: So from now i guess this will get pretty boring in terms of updates.

I cant leave it alone though and my theory is if i am saving money buy not buying new things for it then this means i can spend a little on general things and tidy it up........alot...... so the plan is to strip and re build it completly over 2 weeks before fast show :D Means i can have the engine out replace a few things on it that are abit un-tidy, paint up the block and gear box etc clean the bay up and throw a vtr/s chassis mount in and then get the full shell cleaned and make everything tidy. Im going to give the interior a spray too.

Anyways i got bored so did this today. only took 2 hours wasnt anywere near as bad as i thought. While i changed the SMD's i took the airbag one out for future MOT's with an after market wheel and i threw some white dial's in from a vtr set along with the red needles. :)

Yea thats the rule however i spoke to the lad who normally does my MOT's and he said he couldnt find out if my car was fitted with airbags or not from the factory, so im removing all of the system as i want an aftermarket wheel soon anyways. Then ill have no airbag visible and no airbag light illuming on the dash so therefore with no indication on the MOT machine my car dosent appear to be fitetd with any SRS :hug:

Yea i was suprised how raspy it was, it isnt as raspy as the magnex though its just ALOT louder and the camera dosent pick up on low down noise.
