+1 could understand if it was a full on track car getting painted matt/satin
concerned at
1. how you going to insure this ?
2. how you going to be able to handle the power if you havent even driven without instruction before ? (seen your boost thread)
other than that i do like the car alot!

I just think that a clean car/good paintowrk sort of makes a car, the likes of Simon for example, were as matt/satin never really looks 'clean' as such if that makes sense.

All depends on how its prepared and painted. Look at beanimoo's satin saxo where the car was prepared and painted correctly and it looks amazing and very clean. Then look at some half arsed bastard painting his car with a roller on his drive never looks right and looks patchy as fuck.
I personally think a satin black with gloss black accents would set the car off a treat.

Personally I would concentrate on getting the car running and your test passed and then worry about tarting it up and making it look nice/going fast.
Considering you have said that you've driven various cars turbo'd etc you should pass the driving test with your eyes closed so concentrate on getting that passed and the car up and running and legal to drive (MOT'd, Taxed and insured).
Just my personal opinion as this thread has been going for 7 months and still you've not actually driven the car, I know for me that's the best part of having a car is actually going for a drive. You could have the nicest looking car/best engine/best suspension etc but if you can't/don't actually drive it its pointless.

Hi dan, if you read I think a page back you will see that the car is getting sorted next week which includes head gasket, cambelt, service and all braking system plumbed in! It will have a mot soon as I want to drive it with l plates for a bit! I've just past my theory test and just going to have a few more lessons then book my test! I have 1500 put away for insurance already so that's a good start! I do agree that's why I'm throwing a lot of cash at it as I'm racing thought my licence! Also It may of been 7 months but tbh at the end of it I think it will be worth the wait, also I have been in and out out jobs since owning this so money has been tight but now I have a good (ish) income so now I can step it up a gear! Rome wasn't built in a day ;)

im sorry Dan but i completely disagree...... what about the people who own beautiful classic cars or full thorough-breds who wait a whole year for that ONE DAY to drive it then it goes away for the rest of the year.
Jay, having spoke to you..... you know my opinion on this matter... do it once do it properly no matter how long it takes :)

Thank you Sam, as you said I could of got this running months ago but I realised that I wanted a different head with loom and Ecu so instead of forking out for 2 head gasket, cambelt and services, I was patient and waited to had all the bits I wanted fr a good price! Yes I may off spent money on bits I didn't need yet but that because they were at a price that was more than reasonable IMO! So. As mentioned above I have all the engine and exhaust setup I need so now it's going into a garage to get done as I'm working a lot to get my promotion I'm inline for! So fingers crossed weekend after this one I should have a vid of the exhaust and it driving :) Sam ill see you this weekend? Have some cash for them frames :)

jayline
1st January 2013, 15:42
fitted a fair bit this morning, inlets on, manifold is kinda on (awaiting new nuts for it :P) supersprint is looking amazing being back on the car, all parts of the loom are now plumbed in and doubled checked, all pipe work is done etc...
The only bits left is to fit the new alternator and mounting braket, fill all fluids, get the new handbrake cables on and we are good to go :) THE only Problem is the s1 rallye air box doesnt fit so will need to modifiy that at some point or sell it on and get a different setup :)

I gather as the following...
S1 raylle head/inlet
furio block
S1 raylle loom/ecu
1.1 gearbox
With good breathing mods 110 bhp is achievable, its a good little project but i think with all the loom splicing needed, sourcing different parts, plus the cost, poor mpg and poor idle would give me a headache. In terms or money driveability and reliability the 16v engine would have been better but for some reason i am intrigued by this engine and how it will perform.

tbh mate, there was no loom splicing at all? and i got the parts easily to make this conversion work but i wanted to take my time and do it properly! i do agree that the 16v would of been more cost effective and so on but as i always say im learning about engines and so on so this is beneficial to me :) i will say that i will be going 16v for the second car though!

Sod the colour coding and orange VTS wheels (thought you bought oz wheels before Christmas????) get the proxy thing going.
If what people are saying above is true you would be better off spending the money on sorting the loom etc not tarting it up to look good.
Come on, I'm intrigued (sp) to see what results this engine produces.
i did indeed matey, they are in kent :) car will up running tomorrow :)
looms is not a problem as if there is a problem i have a spare s1 loom and a saxo loom to splice :)
im also intrigued (sp) in seeing what this produces!!!

My bet is this car won't ever be used on a road / track. Will have even more money thrown at it, Jay will pass his test, not be able to insure it and break it for parts.

All I got to say is.... How you you get a nut out of a spark plug holder? A numpty dropped it in there and now I can't get it out!
Also I didn't get to finish it last night as the trip up north took longer than it should off a 4 hour journey ended up a 8-9 hour journey :(
I'm sorry guys!
And this car will not be broken for parts!

The nut is in his spark plug hole not stuck in a socket
Gandi699

so its on top of the piston then? or actually stuck in the hole itself?

Best thing to do is get a bolt and see if u can screw it into the nut, then yank it out.

i thought this but i havent seen an 8v engine in ages to see where the injectors are
if it was a 16v then yea i would imagine that it would be in the combustion chamber
that was the first thing that came to my mind

18th January 2013, 13:53
It's okay I got it out! It was wedged between the spark plug an the wall! Had to take the inlet and fuel rail off to get it out!
In regards to the running of the car the fuel pump primes and all is well, didn't want to start it as it had no exhaust on and I think the tappets need redoing as I forgot one! But I have Monday off so will crack on then!
Sorry for the delays! Here's a pictures of the new bits:
