Hey all this is my progress thread for my Saxo!

It's a mk1 eastcoast with a difference!

It's I'd now running a 1.4 furio bottom end with a s1 Rallye head that has had major work done to it which is all on a 1.1 box! It is running s1 Rallye Ecu and loom so I have a larger rev range!

The car has got fibreglass bonnet, orange vts wheels, 266 big brakes, uprated mounts and more...

Enjoy the read :)

engine conversions are simple, what do you mean by front axle

liking the car get a valver in there!

jeff i meant like front wishbone or (dont know the english word for it ) maybe drive train ,fuckin 60 ccm more in engine and i have to change everything -.- ,by d way you could get a difrent harnesis with only 1 back end to mount ,and it mounts on the back harneses atachment but still not easy for passengers to enter in the back :D ,could you move your seats all the way up front and take a picture ,i want bucket seats but i dont know if with them someone can go to the back .thnx :D

found the word ,driveshaft :D

you dont have to use vts driveshafts, you can use the 1.1 shafts, however id suggest using the vts ones they are no harder to fit than 1.1 shafts

i most likely will get a valver in there but i want to have a decent suspension setup and other parts before the engine tbh! want to make sure if i drive it it can stop as i know for a fact 3 stud brakes cant stop anything! lol

yh it is a fair way to go, used to get me dad to drive me down to herne bay on the friday and get me on the sunday twice a month lol. i used to live by the private school, kilburn road i think? in the new estate up top!

well i undo the nut holding them on and now its stuck at the bottom and is just spinning if i try to tighten it or try to get it off! tried heating it to see if that helps, nothing! i then put 2 mole grips on it to put pressure on it and still nothing :( so might have to cut them :(

you can get a harness with one mounting point! theres plenty about!

jeffchiz
4th April 2012, 14:09
yea they do that lol i usually use mole grips (but obvs that isnt working lol) or i use a ball joint separator and clamp the track rod to the strut (bit like you do with the mole grips)

if that still doesnt work id get a hack saw blade and try to cut the nut off and just buy a new nut or buy a nut splitter tool, or if your track rod ends could do with replacing anyway then yea just cut it off lol

well its separated! use need to get the nut off! but i spose i should replace them as both of the rubbers are split! and i think thats an mot failure! so guess ill hacksaw the nut off and then replace the track rod end! i do have 2 of the following coming: brand new vts wishbones, antiroll bar links and trackrod ends! so guess it be all good :D

its the anti roll bar lol 1.1's have the arb attached straight to the wishbones, but the vts arb attaches to the strut via the drop link/anti roll bar link, by the sounds of it you have bought the vts wishbones and drop links so will need the vts arb, also have you got the vts struts? as the 1.1 struts dont have the drop link mounting point i can screen shot you some pics if you like off the citroen parts software i have?

i have got saxo vts struts! and i bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330646592243?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_1159wt_1342

is this all i need?

jeffchiz
4th April 2012, 15:26
yea thats all you need mate

heres a screen shot anyway so you can see how it all goes together

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/jeffchiz/vtssuspension.jpg

also you might need the clamps which go around the vts arb, as its thicker than the 1.1 it might not be big enough to go around it (ive highlighted the part number in blue )

so will i need a new arb then? i might aswell buy all the dtuff in the diagram to make sure i got all the bits!

Ive just checked the the 1.1 arb clamps have a different part number so when you buy a vts arb make sure they chuck the clamps and bushes in with it

yea, very easy to replace when you look under the car there is two clamps that secure it to the car and its just one bolt on each clamp

heres my guide that might come in useful

its all good then, are they any good? i heard if i do a vts engine coversion a 1.1, 1.5 box would be best?

i love the feel of it having the wheel closer to me, just annoying as the stalks are further behind the wheel so you sometimes go to indicate or put wipers on and you miss the stalks all together lol

1.1 would be best for acceleration, but the diff will shit it self quite soon if you do a lot of heavy starts lol the 1.3 rallye/1.4 xsi are the best of both worlds, give good acceleration and have the larger diff (same as the vtr/vts), the 1.5d box iirc is the same as the vtr box but have shorter 1st and 2nd gears, id stick to the vts box will give better mpg over a 1.1 box and is still good on acceleration

ive had 1.1, vtr and vts boxes on my vts and tbh i didnt feel much difference between them, also i think i read the 1.1 gearbox is pretty much the same as the vts box but just wont last as long if you do hard starts.

i have a 1.1 box on my vtr and thats makes a difference, mainly because the vtr box is the slowest accelerating box and being on a lower powered car seems to make a bigger noticeable difference

If your gonna 16v your car and track it I'd go for them and it would save a lot of time and hassle. I've never done body work on any previous car besides spraying alloys :homme:

ii want to 16v it but then again i want to stay 8v tbh! ive done minimal body work, and a little bit of spraying! i mite still get the fibreglass boot and bonnet!

i dont personally like that idea tbh! i reckon you should uprate all your bushes to stiffen it up, then do brakes and suspension! till you can afford the insurance to do more!

Think the idea is slightly like marmite, some will love, some will hate. Won't be able to touch the suspension, insurance wouldn't allow it, not this year anyway..

Good call on the interior, however I actually don't mind the standard Desire interior, looks simple and clean to me, the interior is in perfect 'nik' so don't see the need to change it.. :)

cheers mate, and bloody hell 800!!!! i think i want to keep a bit of weight in mine as i want it to be able to hammer it through corners on track days without the back end over taking me lol! nezt thing for me is to get a cage ( in to minds atm) modify the furio engine and then paint the whole thing in that order! might boost it to :/

my car weighs 880 kg and i havent tried to loose any weight yet, in fact my false floor probably weighs more than the rear seats that i took out

vtr is supposed to weigh 930kg and vts 935kg, however ive got no book figures for my car as its a vtr but with the heavier vts engine in but doesnt have abs, passenger air bags that vts have etc but parkers figres seem to be quite far out lol

Good suspension and tryes will make it handle, lighter the better.

Here my spec.

Total bare shell add a cage. About 35 40kgs the cage is in total.

It had poly windows all 5.
Fibre glass boot
Fibre glass bonnet
Non sun roof skin
No heater
No blower
Cut up dash, drill out, weight 3 kgs now.
All sound proofing gone.
No abs
Oddessy battery
No electric windows motors
Light hi spec brakes.
No front lights Using morette lights
Bumper lighten up.

I am planning on going lighter, few more fibre glass parts.

What suspension setup are you using/going for?

NismoSteve
30th May 2012, 19:16
Good work going on here so far Jay, I'll be watching with interest. Would be nice to see something hardcore under 1600cc going boost:)

Looks well so far, although I'd put the front plate back where it belongs, or run a stick on plate off of the 80s

My vts is going on a major diet when I get round to it, with me sat in it, it comes out at 1020kg. So subtract my lardy arse from it and its 930, but that was with spare wheel still on.

I'm coming round to the mean look of the mk1 now. Like it:). My progress thread is mostly my own posts too, got loads of pics to get on but not got round to it yet. Peeps love pics.

Yer need better suspension, I have Ast front coilovers,200 lbs spring, 12 point adjustable, Ast top mount with 2 degree camber and bit tow out on the front.

Rear Ast dampers same as fronts 12 point adjustment, 22mm torsion bars fully poly race bushes.

I would get the suspension and brakes all sorted, and semi slicks, if you are going to track days.

Good suspension, tryes would be what I would look at more with your car.

next on the list is to paint my twin fan setup and get that installed asap, ive started stipping her down at the front to make it easier for me when i change the engine! ive also sorted out a complete service for the new engine and a cambelt change! may do the headgasket to if i got time and the weather stays nice!

does this seem correct to you: a person had a quicksilver and but the 1.3 head, cam, inlet, throttle body and ecu onto the quickie bottom end and was producing around 100bhp?

Depends if anything else has been done fueling wise, its possible, but doubtful.
Google puma race engines, there is a real wealth of info on there, especially smaller engined TUs
Johns reitired now but his website is still up to view.

he said it was fueling what it should be so i dont know! and ill have a look now as i need to gain a bit more knowledge tbh! cheers matey

so today was judgement day on wheather i keep the saxo or not so at 7 o'clock this afternoon a very lovely 1.4 106 in black arrives as my front door! so i greet the bloke and all and then we both get in our cars and have a little drive in the estate opposite mine! after 10 mins we start talking and he was saying how much he loves me car as soon on! the deal was the 106 plus 500 cash (his offer not mine) gets to the end of the meeting and he pulls out his keys and what looks to be 5 20 pound notes then says take it or leave it so at this point i said thank you for your time and good day! so i did the right thing and left gim in a cloud of smoke :p so now all plans for the saxo are on and im going to progress as much as i can quickly!

was i stupid or clever? im not sure! his car has 3 months m.o.t and 3 months tax? and was on 102.000 odd miles

shame you didnt go for the 1.6 mate, any reason?
i have a westcoast 1.4 and a vtr and the differance is noticable, the 1.4 is alot less grunty and makes a boring noise compared to the VTR, if you want 120 why didnt you just buy a VTS?

car looks good though! always credit people for effort, its not something you see much these days

tbh mate i didnt want to vtr/s it as everyone does and i know they are the best to get maximum bhp out of but i fancied to be different and also im still learning alot atm so its good practice! also i plan on getting a rallye inlet and head with the ecu and seeing what that does for performance then ill be going for uprated cams and so on! cheers for the comment i do try to do my best :)

I think the 1.4 will be a right laugh, ive got a VTR and i drove it for the 1st time in about 3 weeks, nippy and fun. Im thinking 75 shot of NOS, maybe you could do that if getting BHP is a hard thing

cheers matey, should be a bit of fun :P well tbh i think 120 is a good target as ive heard of people putting rallye heads of 1.4 bottom ends and using the rallye inlets and getting 100 bhp! so if this is true then maybe ill go with that and then uprate a few parts to get that figure!

sorry but putting in a 1.4 is a waste of time and money, the only way your get it to 120bhp is boost and that will be expensive. Should have just vts'd it

cheers for the comment but i have to disagree with you tbh, its not a waste of money or time as im still learning about engines and transmissions etc to gain a good understanding and knowledge of how the engine setup works with there advantages and disadvantages! Also i wanted to be different even though i should of done a vts conversion but i didnt want to 16v this one as its too common and i prefer to learn more about an 8v engines!
