Hi Guys

Im looking for advise or a possible cheap solution really, Ive found some rust spots on my VTR Mk 1, mainly on rear Drivers arch. Its pretty bad tbh. But i don't want rid of my car.

How important is it to get it done straight away and does anybody know how its done or know anybody on the cheap that will do it because right now im getting quoted more than i bought the car for from breakers/body repair shops etc.

Also where abouts are the axle mounting points on a saxo?

Getting the welder isn't the problem either as i have a MIG lieing around (If this can be used)

any advise will be great but i am expecting a lot of "get rid of the car" :n:

Thanks in advance

:Edit:

Also wondering why i put this in here... :wall:

how bad is pretty bad? post some pics up.

axle mounting points are: 2 under the rear seat area, 2 in the boot area.
from inside the car, lift boot carpet up and rear bench seat, you will see black rubber oval covers, under them are the nuts for the axle.
from underneath the car, look for 4 big bolt heads, should have a square plate attached to the bolts too, cant really miss them tbh.

mig welder is ok to use :)

Hi Mate, thanks for the reply.

And luckily then the rust is absolutly no where near the axle mount points. i took it to citroen and aparently it is prone to rust in them places.

Not bad at all your looking at about 60notes to cut out the rust and replace easy job and common as muck. Don't patch over it make sure it gets cut out and replaced or it will get worse over time.

This,

Even my first car a 2000 1.1 forte :detective: was on 140k miles a builder owned it for 3 years and joked that he washed it once, after seeing the state of it i dont think he was joking!
But there was no rust holes a little service rust thats all.

Imo i would say thats real bad.

its funny how they rust differant, i had a ph2 with no rust anywhere, at 60K it looked showroom. a freind had a furio that at 60K needed sills.
i have a mk1 and its rotten everywhere. the place you have rust is common, its just usually covered up. often caused by damp carpet/sound deadning.
your quotes are a joke though. £100 imo

I have the same rust spots on my 2000 furio, also the around the rear windows. Those price's are extreme but at lest you found cheaper.

That's good to hear :) That's a good price. I'm lucky in the fact my dads a welder so he'll do it although I have to wait until the end of the month to sort mine out as ill be sorting out my engine conversion at the same time, plus tax runs out!

Often get them in with the op of the wheel well's rusted in and the bottom edge of the boot floor. This is because of the shit design by Citroen where mud collects gets wet and stays damp. Also Citroen were not the best at using seam sealer in the factory.

This isn't actually the worse case I have seen. I have had one where i had to go to the scrap yard and cut 2 full inner panels and replace them.

See this just shows how people shit themselfs over nothing. This really isn't that bad we see fiestas and for ka's with literally no floors in them and no boot floors.

Thing is it depends on prices. Some people might charge pennies for it to be done, some charge more etc.

Its half the reason i whipped my old Saxo up for sale over 3yrs ago as it was riddled with holes. Iirc i got quoted £400 or something (would have to re-read my thread) but i really didnt think a s reg 1.1 saxo was worth it.
